What they said:
"There's always bounce for all bowlers so spinners get a bit out of it, seamers get a bit out of it. And as batters there's always value for your shots because there's a fast outfield and good pace in the surface." - Kane Williamson, New Zealand captain
"We're in a pretty good place at this point in time. We've built up quite nicely this past year. We're still not the finished product, but we're heading in the right direction." - Jason Holder, Windies captain

Did you know:
- Windies played with the same XI in their last four Tests only once they have had a longer run with an unchanged XI (five Tests against Australia in 1990-91 at home). However, with Kyle Hope missing out, they will be making a forced change.
-Ross Taylor averages 62.35 against Windies. In five Tests played at home, he averages 112 against them. However, in the five away Tests, his average drops to 34.77.
-Kane Williamson needs one more hundred to go past Martin Crowe's 17 as New Zealand's leading century maker in Tests
.

Playing conditions :
Chilly weather is expected throughout the course of the Test match. The wicket looked completely green earlier in the week and is likely to aid the seamers given the history of the venue.

Take Zimbabwe and Bangladesh out of the equation, Windies haven't won an away Test series since clinching one in New Zealand in 1995.
The win came as a result of their success at the Basin Reserve in Wellington, where they hammered the hosts by an innings and 322 runs.
More than 22 years later, they step into the same venue, with a side that is far less intimidating but with a renewed hope injected following some recent results.

It's a lack of professionalism. Pure and simple. Completely lack the ability to adjust within a game and come into a series physically and mentally prepared.
Every strong performance has to be "responding to criticism" - they can never be motivated to do well of their own fruition.
Geez, it's hard to follow this team. One step forward, five steps back.

Simmons and Gibson are coaches.
Bishop is a commentator/spy, it seems.
All the WI commentators do it.
It's not something new nor have I just noticed it.
He's certainly building a brand, out there singing for his supper.
They didn't even have to ask him... He just sang.
I will say this again... WI commentators are the only ones who tell the opposition how to dismiss their players.
The others do commentary on the game that's being played.
Sarwan, before de man cud touch the ground, 'He likes hooking, but he doesn't play it well.'
Dwayne Smith, 'He loves it short, they should pitch it up outside off. He doesn't play many there'.
D. Bravo, 'He has problems with the short ball'.
Doing analysis of the game at hand is one thing... but setting the field for the opposition, that's a lovely addition.
Well done... build your brand.

That is some next-level dribble.
You think opposition coaches and analysts can't work out those weaknesses before Ian Bishop tells them in the commentary box?
You really think it took Ian Bishop to expose Dwayne Smith's batting technique?
He's doing his job as a commentator. He probably watches this team more live than any other media person in the world - he provides insights to viewers.

Here comes another pokey now that will say otherwise.
The proof is in the pudding!!!
You just saw a man harp on about a bat and pad for 30mins, the field changed to suit and the opposition gained success.
Are you that dense? what more is there to say???
By the way, I never said Bishop exposed Smith technique. Those were just some glaring examples of our commentators selling guns to the opposition.

Ah fed up tell people, Cacaroach is we best fast bowler since Ambi & Walsh. Ain't know how people could put Taylor in same bracket with him. Roach is not just a home bully. 3 away series since his return and has been the strike fast bowler. Is a shame he had all them injuries. I'm sure his average woulda nearing 25 and within the top 5 bowling rankings. Top class bowler. Brilliant movement both ways.

Narp, this guy is a keeper, Joseph also should be playing.
If the CWI going to select youngsters at 19 years , either you play them or let them get regional experience.
After watching Paul and seeing guys from the U19 championship team, the BCA selectors dropped the ball.
Springer was the Star of that tournament, he is yet to suit up for the Pride
They are players that have it, Joseph is being wasted on the bench, he should be leading the Hurricane attack, and Springer should be getting the region excited to see him bat, bowl and field.

As we all know test cricket is played over two innings. We lost this with our first innings debacle. The only thing we can get from the second innings is the usual positives in the wake of another loss.

Agreed. From my years of watching test cricket I have come to see the importance of scoring at least 300-350 in your first innings. It keeps you in the game. I know it varies based on the pitch but I thinking that anything less means that you will be chasing the game for the rest of the match, especially when you are playing in conditions that are unfamiliar.

How many of these does he have. His conversion rate can be so much better if he is a little less defensive. If you bat for over 200 balls your strike rate have to be at least 50. That gets you a hundred.

Henry to Chase, OUT, chops it on. Chases a wide ball outside off, doesn't get very close to it. It's short but skids through lower than he expects as he pulls out the cut shot. Gets it off the inside edge and it all looks very average

Wagner to Dowrich, 2 runs, has that carried? Looks like it's short of Latham who's hopping to his right and diving forward to scoop this up with his right hand at second slip. It's a mean bouncer, climbing sharply in the corridor as he sets up on the back foot. He fends at it awkwardly with the body falling into the leg side and lobs it up in the open third slip area

During the commentary, you could hear the pain in Ian Bishops voice when he said that on multiple occasions
Longtime I used to laugh at the English, Indian and Australian batsmen who used to just run to the legside and fend balls into the slips when they were playing WI.
Look how the tables have turned.

How can one call oneself a fast bowler if he cannot bowl a bouncer? Yorker? Aren't these two delivers a necessity in a fast bowler's repertoire?
Ok. Let's say Caribbean pitches are slow and dead. Then they are in the nets, they have warm up matches. They play cricket the world over. Does it mean that if you don't bowl it in the region then you don't bowl it at all.
Really ridiculous.

Some time ago (I think earlier this year) Andy Roberts was conferenced in on Mason and Guest.
Andy said the reason why our bowlers are not menacing and cant bowl more than a 5 over spell is because they are lazy and do not want to do long distance running to build up stamina.
You are right - if a fast bowler cannot bowl the two basic deliveries: Yorker, and bouncer, he doesnt deserve to be called a bowler.
If they say the Caribbean pitches are placid, then you should be practicing to bowl full and in the Yorker zone. As Michael Holding says bowl so that if he misses, you hit.

Brathwaite, Hope and Chase are definitely the senior members in this team and that is something to work with.
In both innings though, once Braithwaite and Hope got out, the remaining batsmen collapsed in a heap
Hetmeyer is still raw. He looks good - but needs to be managed. Cant risk another potential being lost to 20/20 leagues (Evin Lewis, Gayle, Russell) as we will constantly be looking to plug holes in the ship.

converting potential into on field performance has been the elephant in the room as far as WI cricket is concerned over the last 20 years.
