The West Indies recently concluded disastrous and humiliating tour of New Zealand reconfirmed its weakening Test and ODI status and even more alarmingly highlighted emerging fissures and cracks in its T20 performance. After losing 3-0 in both the test and one-day series, the WI were unable to salvage any pride losing by 47 runs and then 119 runs with one match being washed out.
As a result of their losses, the defending World Champions have slipped to 5th place in latest ICC T20 ranking. Since being crowned World Champions in 2017, the WI have won eight of its 17 matches.
They have lost all their series against higher-ranked teams.
The view that the absence Dwayne Bravo, Marlon Samuels, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell and Evin Lewis is the reason for the defeats is not acceptable. The strength of any team is strong as its bench.

And that is why I keep saying we NEED a regional 20/20 tournament..something similar to Sanford's model apart from CPL and probably apart from CWI too.

These Sports Writers write good articles about the decline of WI cricket, however how is it that they do not start a Newspaper campaign to start a shake-up at the CWI Board? WI cricket has been declining for years now, but the decline has accelerated more in the last four years with present members of the CWI Board.

What are the regional 4 day and ODI tournaments doing to the test and ODI teams?

What are the regional 4 day and ODI tournaments doing to the test and ODI teams?
That is an excellent question.
A follow up question should be: How is it possible for a regional four day championship team to have only one player in the test team?

Unlike the test and one days...u have a larger number of world class T20 players.
In tests you have only TWO senior test batsmen in Gayle and Chanderpaul...one soon finished and one they retired...besides them emerging batsmen like Darren Bravo,Kraigg, Shai Hope and Chase...Darren Bravo not playing. One Test bowler in Roach and an emerging Bishoo,Gabriel and Cummins
In ODIs you have one world class player in Gayle and an experienced Samuels...the other experienced ones not world class but also not playing....only emerging player is Lewis. One world class bowler in Narine and he aint playing...no others seem emerging.
But in T20s you have Gayle,Narine,Badree and Samuels world class and then Lewis,Smith,Pollard,Samuels,Sammy, Dwayne Bravo,Darren Bravo,Carlos,Fletcher,Santokie,....you have real encouragement for the emergence of young players! The other two formats have tournaments but with the CPL packed with overseas world class specialists and the above mentioned regional specialists there is little room really for the emergence of young players and opportunities to hone their skills in this format.

The flaw in the CPL is that each team is allowed to have 4 overseas players per match. 2 bowlers and that 8 overs or 40% of allotment, assume 2 batsmen bat for 40 to 50% of the overs.
That model does not allow for regional players to develop as they are not involved on a regular basis. Hence after 5 seasons the emergence of new talent is almost non existent.
Perfect example Joffra Archer in excelling in BBL, New Zealand and England but could not get a look in at home, go figure!
