HEADLINE: Dave Cameron Didn't Invent T20 Cricket

CaribbeanCricket.com Jan 30, 2018, 2:28:17 AM

"It is unreasonable, foolhardy and indeed hypocritical to expect the typical Caribbean youngster, who came from humble beginnings, to give up earning upwards of US$200,000"
The decision by senior West Indies players Darren Bravo, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, and Andre Russell to declare themselves unavailable for the crucial qualifying tournament for the 2019 ICC World Cup coming up in March, once again highlights the single most fundamental factor that continues to cripple West Indies cricket.
The fact that the region's top stars are no longer committed to the West Indies cause is just the harsh and bitter reality of our time, that Cricket West Indies Board President Dave Cameron cannot remedy with the waving of a magic wand. The fashionable, now cliched blaming of the administration and its president for the demise of the regional team has become nauseating and sterile.
What exactly can the board president do if the senior core of players, for reasons beyond his control, are no longer desirous of representing the Windies? Absolutely nothing!
Cameron, love him or hate him, did not invent Twenty20 (T20) cricket, and he most certainly did not orchestrate its revolutionary effect on the modern game. Cameron did not plot and implement the worldwide decline in the interest in Test match cricket, and the converse rise in the popularity, impact and appeal of T20 cricket.

Dave Cameron has also done nothing to negotiate or succesfuly mitigate the challenges presented by T-20 cricket like SL and New Zealand boards have....so piss off..u apologist

Dwayne Bravo not Darren

Darren is the brother Cameron has tried to destroy...

Errors like that rather reduce the credibility of the author.

And the list of those discarded by Cameron for being disloyal is long indeed.

Managing WI cricket is a challenging job, but it become more challenging and complicated when the President of the Board engages in personal grudges and paybacks when he should be coordinating regional matters. The only people that should have personal dealings with the players should be the Selectors and the regional Board members.

This is where vision and strategic direction come in...I was not a member of the WICB in 2009 and I saw this coming and wrote about it.

The current state of our cricket like it or not, stops with the administration of West Indies cricket. All the cricket playing countries have had to face the same T20 player exodus challenge, albeit with much larger cricket population bases, but that is/was the challenge - growing our cricket playing base so that persons who exit can be replaced with equal or better competence.

Test cricket can exist in a T20 world. There are only so many players that T20 cricket can accommodate.

Our system failed at the base by not churning out sufficient players with the requisite level of skills/talent to fill the void so created by the T20 migration which was predictable and mind you, not rocket science.

Currently, after so many years, we are still not graduating quality players...who is responsible for replenishing the reservoir?

The buck stops with the WICB/CWI and there is no denying this. The administration of West Indies cricket lacked strategic direction and we are reaping the bumper crop of a failure to plan. And this is not directed solely at Dave Cameron. The current President only compounded the dire situation with the implementation of certain anti-worker policies which were graciously facilitated by the amalgamation of WICB/WIPA.

Finally, no mgt worth its salt will throw its hands in the air and surrender when confronted with a problem that affects its organisation negatively. If this is the case with the CWI...then they had better exit the centre stage.

Open your eyes and other faculties Gleaner writer.

Its a forking lazy apologist response...I am embarrassed for the writer..that he himself does not see how pathetic the entire tone of the article is.

That's like the president of any company suffering declining results because of competition in the market, saying..well...don't look at me...I didnt create the new product.

Like the Minister of Finance saying..don't blame me..i didn't create the recession lol lol

Like the Minister of Security saying...don't look at me..I'm not a criminal lol lol

You see it..."when the going gets tough the tough gets going."

It would be friendly fire with me in the trenches with him facing enemy fire. "Shut the fack up...BAM!!!!!!!"

Cameron and his board is the reason

Let de dumb writer explain how the other international boards are still getting the services of their top players?

POINT Jan 30, 2018, 7:48:51 AM

This piece of Crap written by one of the WICBC/CWI Lackeys in the Media undoubtedly has reinforced what I
have continuously stated in this Forum .
It is tiresome to perpetually hear the
Lackeys of the WICBC in the Media continuously supporting their Masters
in the WICBC/CWI .

It is exceedingly Shameful that there
has nary been any comment regarding
the fact that those in the governance
of Cricket in the Region perpetually
pick fights regarding monetary compensation just before Our Players
Represent US in the International
Cricket Arena .

I do not recall any other International Cricket Board having this Problem . Yet the WICBC/CWI Lackeys in the Media utter nary a word about this Utter Nonsense .

Those in the Region who claim to be
Sports Journalists need to demonstrate that they possess the
Testicular Fortitude to be Critical
of the WICBC/CWI .

THE TRUTH IS THAT THE LACK OF

TESTICULAR FORTITUDE BY THOSE WHO

PRETEND TO BE SPORTS JOURNALISTS ARE

PART OF THE PROBLEM REGARDING CRICKET

IN THE REGION .

Dang, I can only hope that the author of this piece of garbage used a pseudonym,

I certainly wouldn't want my name associated with something so lacking in basic logic.

Nope...know enough about the fella to know that this sounds like his usual logic.

He's actually a quite popular and "respected" voice on sports in these parts

Always the loudest voice in the room, that's the first sign that he dont know shite..he jus talks loudly

In reply to DIEHARD He is actually a Barbadian living in Jamaica. and i think he is on point. The current WI players has no talent, are mostly illiterate, has street smart but dumb, incompetent, mediocre, and do not learned from their mistake.
