Benefit cricket match raises $.9m for islands*

It didn't quite reach the million dollar mark, but the Hurricane Relief benefit match still scored big for hurricane victims in the Caribbean last year.

Yesterday, at the President's Box of the Queen's Park Oval, organisers of last October's match that featured a Trinidad and Tobago Red Force XI and a Caribbean XI announced that the event had raised $887,037 for the Hurricane Relief Fund. Included in that figure was $552,400 in ticket sales and $78,092 in donations and other collections.

The match was a collaborative effort involving the Queen's Park Cricket Club, the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) and the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago. And they announced that the funds which will go towards assisting the people of Dominica and Barbuda through the non-profit organisation, United Way of Trinidad and Tobago
