PM: 'I have proof UNC ministers took bribes'

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley said he has evidence that former United National Congress (UNC) Ministers received bribes when in office.

“You know what ten per cent of $4.68 billion is? It is $460 million, that is if the bribe is at ten per cent,, I can tell you tonight that this Government has evidence of ten per cent bribe being taken by UNC Ministers and it's on its way to where it belongs,” said Rowley.

He was speaking at the People's National Movement (PNM) public meeting at the La Horquetta regional complex hall on Thursday.

“There is no right to thief public money in Trinidad and Tobago!” he said.

He said the ten per cent bribe was on the “low side”.

The Prime Minister also shared an incident which occurred when he was in the Opposition.

When the UNC was in charge all you heard was UNC this that and the other, now PNM in power and they still blaming Kamla and UNC.Why can't Rowley and his cohorts find proof, all their accusations are made up and alleged, they have become boring and useless bunch of posers, especially that AG al Rawi.
Rowley should cut down on his overseas travel/holidays since we in recession,$2.5 million is excessive when it has got us nothing.I expect by the end of their 5 years his travel bill could be 5 million, gwan Rowley enjoy yuh reign, you won't be back.

Bro its serious this time,US assisting with money trails in Miami and NY. It will be good for the country.

I can't stand many of this govts rhetoric and old politics at times but I truly believe they ate working on corruption and some heads gonna roll hard.

Also we jumped more than all 20/places in the latest corruption index,so the progress is there,we lost billions that could've helped us in these times.

I'm all for T&T so let the chips fall where they may, let's see if they really serious,I have no problem in calling them out for bullshit as I always do no matter who's in power,so let's wait and see before we pass judgement, all of them have been full of shit so I understand fully what you saying.

sgtdjones 2018-02-24 12:59:42

In reply to granite

This is the reason I will never support any of the parties in T&T they are all corrupt and void of leadership.

This government has been in power for almost 2 years
and still blaming the last one.

Look at the ferry service to Tobago as its economy
regresses, it's been over a year since the previous ferries left. They bought one that cannot travel in rough waters.Look at the air bridge another fiasco.

“We do not know when, how and if the Galleon's Passage will be arriving. Imagine where we reach in this country that the people must find out about the Galleon's Passage by Twitter, by tweet and Instagram. They have abandoned the post-Cabinet press conference and talking to the media, they now tweet to tell you information that you need on critical matters as a $120 million purchase of a boat. We want to know who is the crew, where did you get the crew from, who is bringing this boat to Trinidad. We don't know.”

Look at crime it has escalated, a government first priority it to protect its citizens. This is a failed government. Now Rowley is fearing a attack on his government by locals? Why is this.

Rowley is saying
Religion, politics a bad mix—Rowley
, so why is T&T in such a situation?
Didn't Manning and his ministers say the were a big C
when in power?

The US Southern command is monitoring T&T very closely.
Soon we will see massive layoff, the fun is just starting.

This is no paradise , its a failed state.

bravos 2018-02-24 13:32:35

Failed state lol T&T could show the world how to live in harmony in diversity,no hate crimes and tolerance across the board. .

Show me where people are being victimized and even killed because of their heritage and beliefs, where your children are not guaranteed safety at school of all places where people are killed by police because of their race etc etc etc ,show me where a president has more loyalty to a foreign govt than his own and I'll show you a failed state.

Show me a country that's making progress in battling corruption so much so its ranking has leaped over 20 points and I'll show you a great little country with plenty potential.

You don't speak on T&T's behalf.

If anything T&T has proven to be a legitimate successful country that has weathered storms and serious challenges to its democracy, serious threats to its national security on a regular basis at the borders.

Our women and children rank among the highest in the world in many parameters ,the first country to offer free universal education from early childhood to tertiary.

The first country to monetize natural gas and create a model for power generation utilizing same.

Our GDP is among the top half in the world even despite the current slump, our manufacturing is the most advanced in the region, out trade surpluses are constant .

Our arts and culture are genuine and appreciated , we own genres of music,we own indigenous instruments, our people are free to express themselves, our women are free and among the most equal in the world.

An idiot seeing women driving garbage trucks and tankers won't know that is serious progress,it has always been like that here, woman is boss.

Our infirmed and elderly are catered for with pensions, grants and special Transport and education arrangements.

We have some problems and we are addressing them but anyone calling my country a failed state has a serious agenda and stinks and fire bun dem.

I understand how you must feel about supporting any party in TT,to start with,is the fact the parties are divided along race lines,if I support UNC I am automatically an Indo,if I support PNM i am Afro.I am of the opinion that the PNM have been in power too long, and it is virtually a one party state, that is never a good thing. What is annoying is that on the UNC first shot at running TT,they got the same treatment as did Kamla. On both occasions that UNC took power they were hounded by everyone, including dog and cat.The Unions gave them a difficult time, this time though they quiet as a mouse,we know why don't we.Anyway Trinidad and Tobago have not improved as they should under the PNM,in fact they have regressed, they need to be stopped, and I don't care who they are as long as they show some quality, race don't matter,I would like to see them take power, sometimes change is a must,in this case more than ever.

The first priority of a government is to keep it citizens safe.

If it cannot it has failed, the chaos results in a
status of a failed state. When Foreign countries produce
travel advisories it tells a sordid tale.

Then everything regresses but we have individuals supporters of such secular politics who see things different.

The illiterate dont see what you have mentioned above, they look thru rose colored glasses.

travelling to certain areas in Port of Spain.

bravos 2018-02-24 14:03:59

In reply to sgtdjones

And you look through shitholes.

Are rose glasses too good for my country?/why only focus on the few negatives constantly and relentlessly, I know why, nasty agenda ,you so want my country to be injured its not funny...and for that I wish you that injury that you wish us. Basic quid pro quo in effect.

You are a joke anyone can see you are blinded by a dark agenda,T&T will continue to improve in all areas, some faster than others and it will burn your nasty vindictive ill wishing racist ass

sgtdjones 2018-02-24 14:08:59

In this latest advisory, the Embassy advised Americans visiting and/or living/working in Trinidad and Tobago to exercise ‘increased caution’ due to crime and terrorism. “Do not travel to some areas of Port of Spain due to crime,” it warned.
The advisory specifically stated that murder, robbery, assault, sexual assault, home invasion and kidnapping are common. Gang activity, it added, such as narcotics trafficking is also common and that a significant portion of violent crime is gang-related.

This is great news bro? sigh

Why did the above occur?

Inept governments.

Emir 2018-02-24 14:11:23

I agree with your analysis on the PNM of past- the old PNM had been in power for far too long.

But the problem with the UNC and more so Kamla's UNC is two fold:

1. When they got into power, they did not represent change the people wanted, they simply were an exchange. They continued the same system, did not advocate and fight for constitutional change and they wasted money just like Manning did

An example, she traveled to NYC twice during her tenure to throw parties to for her Indo base

She spent tens of millions to throw a Diwali party and and "Eid" party and invited people who could have contributed to her elections.

Her economic and social policies were not very different from the PNM.

2. The UNC power structure comprise of a cabal of rabid reli-racists, and they are aligned to the radical Hindutva in BJP India.
They see themselves as superior to Afro Trinis, and they believe poor and working class Hindus should serve them and be their foot soldiers to win elections. Their close affiliation with Sat Maharaj SDMS group is not in the best interest of the nation.

It is no surprise therefore, this UNC has done nothing to reform the party and create a vibrant national movement.

So until such time or until a credible alternative come along, this new PNM is the best best to lead the nation.

They are building a diverse team, reaching out to many communities, and are trying. This is not to say they haven't made mistakes and perhaps will continue to make mistakes as they learn and grow.

You big asshole so many Trini have been killed in the USA in so many different ways, not to mention 14 at the WTC,many in NY Miami and elsewhere, killed in home invasions muggings etc and you showing me some fucking advisory based on speculation.

F@ck the USA today and f@ck my USA visa, that twisted place of hypocrites and mass murderers makes me sick.

You're a nasty person and a slave also,you stink..

sgtdjones 2018-02-24 14:20:34

How many years the PNM been in power?

Compare that to the opposition.Forget them they are not in power.

The PNM been thru two oil booms, people have no water and electricity. Two billion for Manning ego summits .

Over a year plus Tobago economy is being destroyed over a
ferry fiasco and air bridge?

Look at the crime rate.

Look at foreign countries with advisories to their nationals.

Look at Laventille , Morvant , East Port of Spain and
La Brea, it is like when Eric Williams took power approx
60 years ago.

I guess the UNC caused all of this problems

Illiterates see progress.....a failed state

shock shock shock

advisory based on speculation.

Like you I dont care for the parties....Pnm Unc are a choice between 6 of one or half dozen of the othet. In opposition they have all the evidence to lock up....but soon as they get in power....nothing..no big shot in jail..no corruption charges. There are to many corrupt intrrlocking criminal directorates in TT.
Criminality now is a result of progresdive fsilure of succesdive govtd and not just the current incumbent...it is facetous to put sole blame on ths current Govt. I remember Panday threw his arms up in surrender when he was PM. This was the time when 16 yr old chucky attin killed those women.
The drug barons...corrupt Police Force..lethargic toothless judiciary_ all lend to the current quagmire.

johndom90 2018-02-24 16:39:15

TT is to damn complicated for a little speck of dust.

I am in total agreement with you, you nailed it perfectly.

Two beautiful Islands now where criminals affiliates with all political parties run the roost.

The citizens are behind bars of steel for protection.
Nights are no longer safe to be outside.
Any government that cannot protect it citizens is a failed one , leading to a failed state.

I have property in T&T and pay taxes in South and eventually will return after my tenure is up. I will
always be a citizen of T&T and has never sought refuge in any country.

I will continue to show ineptness in its leaders, with the oil booms this twin nation should be blossoming.
I visited during Carnival 2018 and was astonished at the
poverty, I saw.

The only leader that tried was Eric Williams but one man couldn't lift T&T, how I wished he had those two oil booms. I wouldn't be this lugubrious, as I dont see any one that can take T&T to where one can see the light.

It is sad, to see various foreign governments warning it citizens about T&T.
It is sad,to see a PM saying he fears a violent attack
could be imminent.
It goes back to an old proverb "We get what we deserve in life" . It leaves one wondering what those citizens who are living in shacks with simple basics as water or electricity non existing did?

sad sad sad

peace
