What will be the Tiebreaker

goofballs 2018-03-17 13:15:39

if WI, Afghan and Ireland are tied for second place?

Is it run rate, head to head results, division standings or that anti man system of going on reputation?

Who has the edge currently?

It’s head to head and both Ireland and WI have to say bye, bye to the WC but Afg can only tie with Ireland if there is a rain out... Scotland can be the surprise second team!

If Aghan wins their remaining games and Ireland and WI beats Scotland, and WI lose to Zimbabwe.

All likely outcomes..then Afg, Ireland and WI will tie on 6

That's the scenario I was thinking about. Three tied for second.
Who goes through and why.

In a head to head..Afg goes through.

Head to head is the precedent set so far..Zim and Afg as most predicted are the qualifiers for next years World Cup

Zim vs WI is virtually a knock out game for WI, they cannot afford to lose to Zim and send them clear at the top of the table

I'm looking for a link to confirm that head to head is the first tiebreaker. Always thought it was net run rate.

Walco 2018-03-18 12:21:20

In the event of teams finishing on equal points in its Pool, the right to play in the quarter-finals will be decided in the following order of priority:

The team with the most wins in the Pool matches will be placed in the higher position.

If there are teams with equal points and equal wins in the Pool matches then in such case the team with the higher net run rate in the Pool matches will be placed in the higher position (refer to 21.10.5 below for the calculation of net run rate).

If two or more teams are still equal, they will be ordered according to the head to head matches played between them (points then net run rate in those matches).

In the highly unlikely event that teams cannot be separated by the above, teams will be ordered according to their original seeding. If all matches within a Pool are a no result, the top four seeded teams will progress to the quarter-finals.

Thanks for that...NRR is more important than H2H.
