The stats show the pacers have done well but the spinners have disappointed for WI

Carlos Brathwaite HAS BEEN the most economical bowler for WI

Holder is the poor man Sobers of this tournament.

Based on sheer averages WI has the best fast bowling unit of the tournament once you include Brathwaite with Holder Roach and Paul.

They all have work to do but those who were under performing have improved.

Gayle and Hetmyer are the only batsmen with a SR of over 100 but their averages are just under 40. Lewis and Samuels played well today but they need to be more consistent.

Holder and Powell have done well.

Hope is making runs but he needs to work on his strike rate.

FuzzyWuzzy 2018-03-19 13:29:15

You all don't understand team play. Hope's role is to drop anchor and let the jitters hit around him

He had played his role well twice not out in 5 innings. It is the big hitters who need to play their roles

StumpCam 2018-03-19 13:33:01

Holder & Hope finally found their level! lol lol

International ODI cricket has moved on from the role Shai Hope played. It didn't work against Afghanistan. And it won't work in the World Cup proper.

ODI batsmen need to have a SR of over 80. Three of our batsmen do not.

Hope
Samuels
Lewis

They all have work to do. All three are weak at finding the gaps and turning dot balls into singles. They have way too many dot balls between them.

That's fine for test cricket but not ODI cricket.

It always amazes me when argue about scoring rate. We prefer 2 sixes and put for 14 in 2 balls than 70 runs in 90 balls

Do any of the teams in the Top 8 have a batsman that play this role, with a SR in the 60s or 70s ?

This is a role that has gone the way of underarm bowling...this is why WI struggle to keep up with the innovations in the ODI game, and why we have to be struggling against these "minnows"

Our planning is all wrong

that is a big metric in ODI ! YOU need to keep pace with the target you are chasing; for D/L possibility and to take pressure off the people coming after you.

How does 14 off 3 balls advance that?

WestDem 2018-03-19 14:16:37

Predictability of weather is a lot better with today's technology and we were ahead by far during the whole chase...

You need to get off your bitterness and just enjoy the cricket....BTW, we are not playing the top 8 teams, we are playing the top qualifiers...

Ok drop Hope and bring in Walton who scores rapidly...for 10 and out and then tell me how Windies will reach 290

analyst-kid 2018-03-19 14:29:24

WI do not possess world class ODI batsmen.

Gayle was one but he is aging/declining. Samuels was near one and he is declining too.

In this tournament however, Hetmyer,Holder and Powell are putting in World Class performances based on the stats. They are matching Stirling from Ireland Ura from PNG and Brendon Taylor.

We must watch Scotland though because MacLeod 278 RUNS @ 66.75 SR 96.04 and Coetzer 186 runs @ 46.50 SR 86.91 will be challenging us.

Hope playing the same anchor role for WI in these ODIs that Kraigg Brathwaite plays for Barbados in List A.

analyst-kid 2018-03-19 14:57:28

The stats are also saying that the four prong of Roach,Holder, Paul and Carlos Brathwaite is the best bowling attack for WI...although I would like to give Bishoo another try.

Hope, while I agree is being asked to play anchor roll, should still keep the scoring rate ticking over with singles. Still too many dot balls with no pressure on the fielders. he needs to find space in the field and make them think while he is at bat. He usually starts off slowly anyway then get going. Still too many dot balls for the anchor bat in a short game. Think he is too good of a strokemaker not to just knock the ball in space.
