HEADLINE: Bravo not seeking Windies recall but remains available

CaribbeanCricket.com 2018-03-24 07:18:45

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC)— West Indies all-rounder, Dwayne Bravo, has refuted international media reports suggesting he is actively seeking a return to the regional side for next year's World Cup in England.

The 34-year-old, currently in India preparing for next month's start of the Indian Premier League, was quoted as saying, “hopefully I would get to play in the World Cup as well”, after congratulating West Indies for clinching their spot at the showpiece at the ongoing ICC Qualifiers in Zimbabwe.

But Bravo told Line & Length Network his comments had been meant as a “simple joke” and not a “comeback request”.

Some reporters take things and run with it,” the dynamic Trinidad and Tobago player said.

“I was asked how I felt about the Windies making the Finals and I responded by saying, 'I am so happy for the guys because they worked hard and deserve to be in England, hey, maybe I will comeback,' and laughed. But it was in no way a comeback request.”

We really struggled to make it to the 2019 WC, but we made it. Now we are in it, we should use this occasion to forget about the past and focus on winning another title and as a result, we need to have all of our best players like the Bravo brothers, Pollard, Narine, Simmons, and others available

Between now and next year I would like to see management of west Indies cricket organize some domestic ODI's with all our star players involved and then select a world cup squard based on performance. We need to stop that fighting and quarreling for the sake of our game

Bravo has been overlooked for selection in One Day Internationals ever since his crucial role in the controversial abandoned tour of India, in a players pay dispute with Cricket West Indies.

Since then, he has struggled with injuries. He underwent major hamstring surgery after picking up a serious injury in the Australia Big Bash in December 2016, and also recently nursed an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) sprain of his right knee, which kept him out of the Pakistan Super League this year.

Bravo rejected this assertion but said he believed selectors should keep faith with the contingent who helped the Windies qualify.

“I want to make it clear though that I never retired from playing for the West Indies, I have been available but just not selected,” said Bravo who has taken 199 wickets in 164 ODI’s and has a batting average of 25.36.

Man think people born yesterday.
Again Trumpesque.

Thanks to the overwhelming response by the press (CCC posers) he was shown the light and why he was shameless.
Hence the backtrack.

i think the Board in spite of their shortcomings are genuinely trying to put the past behind, some of the players have already done this, Chris Gayle comes to mind, others are still a ways off and can't seem to go forward. the olive branch was given to to all players.....

I'm not asking my Ex-Girlfriend to take me back, but if she wants me back I'll e there in a heartbeat smile

The only two guys I would want back for the WC are Narine, Lil Bravo and Russell, and I have my doubts about Narine's effectiveness in England if he can't pelt a few per over. But they all will have to play the next Super50 and earn their spots.

You (WICB) begged, offered them (girl, rebels) to come back. They hold out and hold till you gat blue balls. no compromise after you reached out.
When you take a fresh, new one, she get jealous and want fi come back.
Cardinal rule: make a clean chop off. Don't ever turn back! You might get black instead of blue!

I disagree with you hawk. I don't think the board ever made a genuine offer to the players. Yes they pretended but that was about it. To wait until they knew our Stars were getting ready to play for their international teams, to ask them about their availability is a joke. A genuine offer would be for the board to announce that ALL players that participates in our domestic competition are qualified for WI selection as long as they perform, would make me feel better

Weren't dey all offered an opportunity to play against England after the CPL? Bravo declined because he wasn fully fit, his brother cited personal reasons, Narine said he wanted to play the longer version of the game first. Ah doh recall what Polly's or Lendl's repsponses were.

Russell was still serving his ban.

To wait until they knew our Stars were getting ready to play for their international teams, to ask them about their availability is a joke.

What international teams? Dat is domestic cricket and the ICC has mandated dat contracts signed for those domestic leagues are voided without predjudice once the player is called (and accepts the call) to represent the parent body at international level.

Carlos had a PSL contract so dat excuse about already signing contracts is a bogus one.

I have always supported the players against the Board but ah had to part ways wid dem dis time. I understand dat dey want to maximise dere earnings but when you start torking bout putting food on the table for your family when you earn more in 3 seasons dan de average Caribbean family earns in dere lifetime it becomes a stretch.

Did I hear fake news?

Who asked Dwayne Bravo to be available for selection for the ICC World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Zimbabwe?

I read somewhere, ??Cricinfo/papers that they were offered to come back and they all refused.
I always supported the players and laborers/artistes rights to be handsomely rewarded, to see what the market would bear and for better work conditions and compensation. I still do.
I am glad the WICB is letting them prostitute themselves without objection. All good. No problems there!
When the board asks them to be available they all said no. These guys making millions could at least show some consideration of the board's efforts to reach out and compromise, even if they play for free.
To continue this war of holding out and to show that WI cannot win anything without them is high class arrogance and nonsense.
Yes, they can afford to refuse as they are allowed to play for others, making a lot of money.
Then don't come running back or publicly, shamelessly declare or imply that you will play for WI.
I worry only about talented Darren Bravo.
I prefer the WI to lose the next 20 games if they must rather than give in to this type of nonsense.
Ok, they can comeback and play in all the local competitions and be assessed, but don't assume they can walk into the team.
