Too many to mention: Sarwan; The Shiv; Deonarine; wicketkeeper Short man Baugh; Miller; Ravi Rampaul; Santokie; Tonge was even given a game; Odean Browne wasn't even called up; Imran Khan was over-looked; The best captain in the region for several years wasn't even called up; Australian-Jamaican discarded after only one failure, despite that he propped up West Indies during so many matches. So many others, I cannot even remember all now but I guess you guys will add players to list.
In reply to googley
yes I'm on the Fidel Edwards train too.
And I agree that Chanderpaul still had a couple good years left in him.
In reply to googley
Andy Roberts had another year or two left. Lara had another couple as well.
Collymore
Collins
Bradshaw
In reply to Bigzinc
Didn't those two retire voluntarily?
In reply to Drapsey
none too gentle shove
In reply to googley
Alvin Kallicharran is number uno!
Haynes
Ricardo Powell
Definitely Desmond Haynes
He scored 4 centuries in the season. Missed one match. Get over-looked for captaincy.
Cuddie
Desmond Lewis
In reply to WestDem
Kallicharran and Rowe were dropped from team for the tour to australia. They subsequently went to south africa and got banned

Cuddie?
hexplain. Cuddie and Ambi retired on their own.
In reply to Slipfeeler
All that to get here:
The best captain in the region for several years wasn't even called up; A
How could one get discarded too early if one was never selected?

By reading this thread it tells a story of ineptness
at the top level of the WICB/CWI Board and administrators.
Players who gave whatever they had for the benefit
of the Administrators and the game , all seem to have similar endings, gently shoved off the cliff or discarded.
Is it just me or others see the same?
Ravi Rampaul
Andrew Richardson
In reply to WestDem
Kalli's performance was dropping to mediocre level when he was dropped.
Brian Lara.
Browne!!
In reply to culpepperboy
You must be talking about Patrick Browne
Desmond Haynes
Andy Roberts
Phil Simmons
Pedro Collins
Winston Davis
In reply to googley
Kalli was also injured.
Knocked down by Andy Roberts (I think)
in a regional game.
Performance was very poor.
He went on to flourish in county.
Didn't he go to RSA and got banned.
ABB!?
Hola...we did a very poor job...we should discard the present players....and that my friend would be justifiable...
But them discard me too early too.

Sarwan
Rotipaul

Lester King
Richard Edwards
Why were they both dropped after the 1968-69 tour of Australia, and not picked for the 1969 tour of England? At the time both were under 30 yrs old.
In reply to CWWeekes
The selectors went with Grayson Shillingford(24) and Philbert Blair(25), who had very good seasons and were faster than King (30) and Edwards (28 )
Looked it up and Edwards actually took 15 wickets in the 3 test matches in New Zealand on that tour.Lester King did not play first-class cricket after that tour.
One major reason why WI currently having difficulties with finding a strong team consistently, for we have discarded our relatively performing players much too early in their careers and replaced with less talented players, thereby created a declining downward trend of a pool of less capable and less-performing players. Now we are just about craping the bottom of the barrel. Not surprising we have become Afghanistan beating stick and there are more humiliating performances to expect, unless CWI cease and desist from its current selection and administrative polices and experience players make themselves consistently available to represent WI.
Reon King
R. Sarwan
B. Nash
F. Edwards
In reply to Dukes
Thanks Dukes.
The non-selection of Edwards was more surprising, considering as you have shown, he did reasonably well in NZ and if I remember correctly also in Australia. I believe Edwards also did not play first class cricket after that tour. In terms of King I wanted to see him get a chance to show what he had to offer, since he had been around the team for some time but could not get a game ahead of Hall or Griffiths.
Tony Cozier wrote that in a Ja vs Bdos game Renford Pinnock weathered the Hall and Griffiths fire-storm, and gave a sigh of relief when Edwards entered the attack. However, after facing Edwards' first delivery Pinnock commented "everybody fast today".

Hola...yup the man that was shafted ,screwed and thrown to the wolves by the West indies was REON KING...this is not hear say talk..this is fact,,
Reon was good..smooth and fast..and was doing well...Reon was a genleman...he got injured foot injury and West Indies and the Guyana cricket board never did nothing for Reon.Myself and a former test cricketer went home to Guyana to watch a test match at Bourda.Reon and the ex test player chatted(they knew each other)..Reon was bitter..WI nor GCB was offering any assistance to help him out with the foot injury,,,the next day myself and the ex test player took Reon to a Dr whom we knew ..and he looked after him..
this was a sad case..and he (reon) gets my vote for being discarded too early.
West Indies cricket board aint easy yeah"""..on the eve of a test match at Bourda..Carl Hooper cuss up the WI board ..some members were present..I do not know how he was not shown the door..but he was speaking about a grievance..had to do with per diem of some sort..man that boy Carl was livid..

Somebody needs to rescue Narsingh Deonarine...even though he might not want to be rescued.
You remember when a 14-15 year Deo would come up to Toronto to play in the annual Guyana independent match..classy young player...and he moved along well into the Guyana youth teams and even captained the WI U-19 team...then the Guyana national team.....made the WI senior team....then...what happened?????
In reply to Narper

Hola...the following people PHUCKED Narsingh...
Otis Gibson,Joel Garner, past president from St Lucia(he is so irrelevant I cant even remember his name)....here is the story...
Narsingh was a decent offie and bat..he was in the WI set up...but the Lucian mafia wanted their boy Sammy...who for all the tea in China..cant bowl nor bat...Garner(a very poor manager ) and Otis G went along...Narsingh was declared in a T20) game in Barbados..toss spin etc and Sammy was inserted..from thereon..downhill..those buggers found everything possible to disgrace the boy.
Narsingh gave up..and was hanging out in Berbice drinking up...he kept saying.."They dont want me"..he was convinced to try and get back in..even against the odds...unfortunately the sad reality is it could not happen as he was from the other side of the track..get my drift.
Rohan Kanhai..yes the great RBK came into the dressing room in the 3rd world cup final at Lords..went over to a player..pulled his hair and said..they dont like this.No Names..
Sadly WI is biased..and now Caricom want to get involved?..Man let me go have a nice dump.

Nuff said
The usual suspects have destroyed many players
Then some assholes on this board will turn around and claim the 'destroyed' players are weak

Charlie Davis -discarded or did he just retire?
In reply to CWWeekes
way before my time bro
In reply to CWWeekes
He developed multiple sclerosis but I'm not sure if that caused his early departure from the team.
