Two bandits raid temple

AN early morning robbery at the Lakshmi Narayan Temple, in Freeport, sent shock waves through the Siewdass Road community yesterday, when bandits ran away with $160,000 in cash and jewellery, taken from the temple and its pundit.

At about 2 am, yesterday, four masked men entered the home of pundit Gajendra Kumar and his wife, Mamta, and tied them up, demanding the keys to a vault.

The couple’s two and a half-year-old twins were asleep at the time and were not harmed.

The men took $160,000 in cash, jewellery and precious ornaments, from the pundit and his wife who came from India, ten years ago.

Kumar, who remained shaken by the incident, said he just allowed the bandits to take whatever they wanted as he silently prayed for his family’s safety.

He said when the gun was pointed at his head, his daughter woke up and ran to his assailant, hugging him and greeted him with “Hello Uncle. Sita Ram.”

Kumar said the bandit told the child, “Go back to sleep baby.”

The child obeyed and the robbers demanded more money since, according to them, the temple had a huge following so there must have been more cash hidden.

“I told them we keep all the cash in the office,” Kumar said.

Kamla urges Govt: Take action against crime

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar says crime is out of control and the time has come for Government to take decisive action to protect the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.

The Miscellaneous Provisions (Defence and Police Complaints) Bill 2013, she said, was intended to ensure a heavy increase in visible law enforcement presence throughout the country. The “Soldier Bill” piloted by the Peoples Partnership government was designed to grant police powers to members of the Defence Force.

WHERE is Rachael Sukhdeo?

The Sunday Express yesterday received information that the widow of murdered car dealer Sheron Sukhdeo and mother of two left the country yesterday afternoon.

Sources said she and her two children went to Piarco International Airport yesterday, and were preparing to board a flight.

This followed a series of threats on her life, police sources said.

Attempts to reach Sukhdeo on her cellphone yesterday were futile.

The Sunday Express also visited the family’s sprawling home in Chaguanas but there was no sign of activity.

You are so right mate,I know we are the biggest underachievers, when you think that back in the 70s we were regarded as rich as any country apart from the USA and some Arab countries. In 1982 the country had an empty Treasury, how is that for teefing. The whole lot ah dem are a bunch of fcuking posers, dressing up in nice suits and jumping on and off planes. The way how Trinidad was run since independence brings tears to your eyes. One fact seems clear when this government is in power,it's a signal to criminals to go on a crime fest.

There is no way that anybody can sanitize what's taking place in TT.Just a few years ago it was just gang and drugs related, now if yuh feel like killing the manager of a shop you just go and do it,no reason is needed, and worst of all the crims won't be caught.
