With a young AB retiring and Gayle coming up it caused me to consider who was the oldest player to play test cricket for the West Indies?
Those who follow the game and not just Google can say why they know the answer.

Going with your namesake, George Headley.

Your name sake. Didn he have to wait for a war to end before resuming his test career?
Keep the answers coming folks. As usual there will be a prize for the winning answer. The value of the prize is yet to be determined.

i would guess Clive Lloyd
Headley .
I remember Jack Noriega debuted at about age 39 but I can't recall how long he played.

Noriega did not last more than a series as I recall..
I think Lloyd was the oldest as he retired in his early 40's.
What about Lance Gibbs?
Lloyd
Born August 31, 1944
Last test Australia v West Indies at Sydney, Dec 30, 1984 - Jan 2, 1985
Headley
Born May 30, 1909
Last test West Indies v England at Kingston, Jan 15-21, 1954

Stephanie Power was 47 when she player her only test (Pakistan, 2004).
the interesting question here would be the oldest WI player to ever get a recall ( after lets say, not being involved in the last 15 tests or more )
Chanderpaul!!
J Holt.
Headley
Really good answers above.
Bruce you have forced me to change the question to "Oldest Male Test Player". I have only a faint recollection of the name Stephanie Power so many thanks for educating me.
What about Edmond Kentish who died recently?
In reply to Headley
I would have guessed Lloyd, definitely Lloyd in my time of following cricket.

Lance Gibbs (Lloyd's cousin) was 41 when he played his last test against Australia. However, George Headley is the oldest at 45 against England (MCC) in 1954
Didnt Lance Gibbs tour Australia in 1976? I would think he would have been up with Kanhai, Lloyd, and Chanderpaul as the oldest post-war West Indians to have played for the West Indies.
Many pre-war (World War II) cricketers played well into their forties. There must have been some West Indians in that group. But I would say Lance Gibbs was the oldest.
The original poster being Headley is a bit of a give away...George Headley was over 44 when he played his last test. And he was the oldest...there have been older test cricketers of course and the o,rest of all was that famous Yorkshireman...not brian close but Wilfred Rhodes who was 52.

yes, Headley must have been an amazing player to see
Yes Mas George was the oldest male player to suit up in a test match for the WI. He was almost 45 yrs old when he played his last match. Many knowledgeable posters noted that his illustrious career was interrupted by WW2.
Reports suggest that by then he was prone to injury but he had achieved so much and broken so many records that he made the turnstiles spin, so the Board was keen for him to play.
PS Nobody took the Edmond Kentish bait!

Yes well done! Actually we do have a special gift for you.
We are going to PM you the front cover and back cover of "Masterclass" a bio of Mas George. Maybe a few pages from the "miggle".
