Doubles recipe
was in Trinidad on vacation recently and the plan was to eat that every day. but after just having two on the 2nd day of my visit. i decided that was enough for the remainder of my stay
Had my very first one the other day (my sister-in-law's brother, who has a Trini mother, hooked one up for me).
Man it was delicious. Better than a roti. Although I think I would still prefer a Jamaican beef patty, no offense.

Never had doubles but I love a good beef patty.
In reply to grugru
youth ah think yuh could only handle two
Doubles is just abut the only thing from Trini that is worthy of being Jamaicanized. Have plans in motion right now to open up two doubles shops in Kingston and then expand into the hinterland when it takes off.
Doubles is serious food, nice nuh raass! One thing tho... doan try eat it on the run. Is not like a patty where yuh can steer and change gear and still box off two. Siddung or stannup or yuh gwine mess up yuhself.

Rasta George! I'm with you on that, Bullocks! Some years ago I was on a thread here with Bravos boasting about "kiss cake" and other Trini foods being consumed in Ja. I thought of it but didn't say it (lest I were to boost Bravos any further, LOL) that goat and chicken roti, and doubles were worthy of the J'can palate. Yuh might be on to suppem there, iyah.

Stick doubles in some coco bread and who knows, you may have the next Caribbean (starchy) sensation
In reply to Tryangle
No dread ....best part of the doubles is the bara so putting it inside a coco bread would phuck it up completely.
In reply to problemjay
Yuh really want to compare the global recognition of Ja. vs Trini food ....?
Yuh really believe that the whole world knows about doubles ....?
Yuh deluded nuh raass bwoooy ....

Check the heart attacks stats in T&T .....you will see one of the reasons
A grim but accurate picture painted by consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist Dr Lana Boodhoo about heart disease and heart attacks in this country. Over the last decade the prevalence of heart disease and heart attacks has spiralled, unabated in the Caribbean. Trinidad and Tobago has not been spared. Since 2011, it has claimed more lives locally than any other disease. Both the Health Ministry and PAHO/WHO, also list heart disease as the number one cause of mortality in Trinidad and Tobago.
Dr Boodhoo said so bad is heart disease and heart attacks in this country, that its one of the higher rates in the world. She told us, for her, the disease is being overlooked and this should not take place, since victims are becoming younger.
A lot of our population have poor dietary patterns. Were a fast-foody type of country unfortunately. We very often, we dont have time to prepare meals, we live in a culture of love to eat out. A lot of the food we eat is high in saturated oils and trans-fats and thats an important predisposing thing to increasing the amount of bad cholesterol.
We have a lot of work to do. We are seeing younger and younger people getting heart attacks. Were seeing them now presenting in their 30s. I am hearing from my colleagues, particularly the ones involved or on the frontline working Accident and Emergency Departments, that were having increasing incidents of people in their 30s and 40s presenting with heart attacks.
Heart Disease, not crime the #1 killer in T&T

Doubles and kiss cake, two deadly combination.
From what I understand, kiss cake is nothing but a Twinkie. Twinkies are loaded with fat.

I figure a large part of it is the changes to more sedentary lifestyles... people would eat starchy foods, but they'd also do a whole lot more walking, climbing, carrying.
Now, more people have cars, office jobs, and the same access to starchy foods *plus* additional foods laden with sugar and preservatives.
Some lessons here for the poster name JohnBull on doubles Link Text
I have had I doubles in my life.
i also had the KFC ,was spicy and delicous-but once only..lots of overweight people in Trinidad- I suspect its partly due to KFC and doubles diets
