Crocodile kills pastor as he baptises followers on lake in Ethiopia

A lakeside baptism ceremony ended in disaster when a large crocodile leapt from the water and killed the pastor, it has been reported.

Docho Eshete was allegedly grabbed by the crocodile soon after he started a mass baptism for 80 people on the shores of Lake Abaya in southern Ethiopia.

“He baptised the first person and he passed on to another one,” local resident Ketema Kairo told the BBC. “All of a sudden, a crocodile jumped out of the lake and grabbed the pastor."
Pastor Docho was said to have been bitten on his legs, back and hands.

As his horrified congregation looked on, local fishermen reportedly struggled to rescue him. It was said they succeeded only in using their nets to prevent the crocodile from taking the 45-year-old’s body into the lake, near the city of Arba Minch.

Nature is always boss.

He must've been so excited about the day's planned events, he forgot to pray before starting the baptism exercise.

I hope the congregation prayed for him even if it's after the fact.

Croc was doing what croc should do.

Of course, it was 'gods will' that the man be eaten alive by a croc, so at the end of the day...

ah, the joys of religion.

You ridicule the loss of life during a religious tradition.

You cook a Christmas meal every year.

I don't know Chrissy. Loss for words here.

Human life is over rated expendable even insignificant to the Earth's well being, even nuisance, ask God.

Even bees ,crocs, sharks and vultures are more useful to Earth than most humans....You think you or me one in so many billion are worth more to Earth than a tiger or Bear?

Get over yourself mammal...only one other mammal probably outnumber humans and that's rats..

Given this you won't take offense when people ridicule Trinidad.

Else someone tell you to get over yourself.

Animal behavior fascinates me...the crocodile in India never seeks to attack a full grown tiger even by the river. The tiger is one badass.

Tigers leopards and lions kill crocs, crocs also get them at times..it's usually a size thing, who's bigger on the day..

No felidae (big cat) can romp with a BIG croc in water..

In reply to bravos

I agree...but I doubt even a big croc could overcome a ten to twelve foot long tiger in the water....the tiger is an excellent swimmer and his fierceness would deter any size croc.

AS u said...its the size.

And yes any cat overpowering any big crocidilian is awesome and a sight to be seen as you may know..there are some vids on youtube with them taking them out the water bodily by the scruff with tails heads and feet wagging,no kinda traction ...and the cats know where to grab to make the crocs jaws impotent..

Those vids usually showing the jaguar or the leopard with a caiman or the alligator.

But the tiger is one cat who swims in a river filled with crocodiles and his meanness and fierceness is such that no croc dares approach him.

I have a get together for family and friends on December 25 - it has nothing to do with religion outside of the date. Now please to KYS. Tenks.

Norm 2018-06-10 17:50:10

The baptism was not a total waste, at least. One person out of 80 was baptized and they got rid of a very dangerous pastor!

I am a big national geographic fan but I have come to the conclusion that some of these things are made up. That tiger has been waiting for hour to reclaim its kill but yet the carcass is untouched. What these guys are doing is using footage from different events and putting them together as one.

I have proof of it.

Norm 2018-06-10 20:19:49

That croc was the smartest creature in that whole story. He saw the pastor's utter stupidity and recklessness and decided to put a stop to it. smile

This theme - religious leaders willing to endanger their followers to promote their purported beliefs - plays out time and again - more often than not at the expense of the followers.

That croc deserved to be rewarded, with a medal and a stupid pastor to munch on!
