Lillee, Thommo vs WI 1975
In reply to Curtis
After Kalli et al had put bat on thommo and Lillie in the 75 world cup; we were all excited to continue the success in the Fall; but other than the second test when Freddo fired, those Aussies murdered us. Not only Thommo and Lillie, but Gilmore
In reply to Curtis do not like horror films.
is what year we start giving it back to the Aussies?
Ok, WI start fight back, standing up
Real Deal!

even tho it was 5-1...we were not murdered...we were merely outplayed.

We were earning our stripes and soaking it in. Building character.

I seem to recall a number of our batsmen sustaining broken bones

I seem to recall a number of our batsmen sustaining broken bones
Yep...the days of no helmets or body armour...they took the blows like men
But they never lie down and die...they fought and lost
Kallicharan returned to bat after his nose was broken by Lilee
Bernard Julien opened the batting...got his finger broken
Cppo Lloyd battled for 2 tons
Keeper Deryck Murray battled for 4x50s
Towards the end of the series..Viv Richards sparked and played some brilliant innings...taking on the OZ fast bowlers

Looking at those averages, you are correct. Our batting was productive, even better than I thought it would be.
In reply to DirtyDan
your best bat was Keith Boyce
Ok fellas...help me. Were this duo, Lillee & Thomo, better than WI 4 prong, same level of dominant bowling, just a notch below or above?
In reply to BeatDball
not better. The difference was thomson
In reply to Bigzinc Hmmm, ok.

They were at different stages of development
This series changed cricket forever. If you watch Cricket in the 70s on youtube, viv said this series was the main reason he felt comfortable batting with only a cap

When you look back, that was a dangerous time for cricketers facing 100 mph deliveries aimed at the body, without adequate protection
They accepted the risk as part of the job - at least the ones that persisted
Is that risk removed in today's cricket with all the protection?
How has that changed the caliber of batsmen, if at all?
In reply to tc1
Keith Boyce was one of my favorite cricketers
Could bowl a quicker one and bat better than adequate
No slouch as a fielder either
In reply to DirtyDan
to me, Boyce is a true rep of WI cricket, in all dimensions
So, how should have a WI player handled a Lillee or Thompson?
Look no further how a great WI player did it. Link Text

was that a no ball Andy Roberts bowled in the nets?
