'Zero arrests since Anti Gang Bill passed'in T&T
It has been just over three weeks since the Anti Gang Legislation has been passed, and Senator Gerald Ramdeen is asking why the State has yet to make one arrest of persons who are suspected to be gang members.
During a press briefing which was held at his office along Cornelius Street, Woodbrook, Ramdeen said he found it quite alarming that the People’s National Movement (PNM) Government had made claims when the legislation was brought before parliament that they were in possession of information on the number of gangs which operated in this country and its membership.
Yet, despite this, three weeks have passed since the Anti-Gang legislation has been passed and there has been no arrests, he said.
“Can you understand that every day in this country we have a conversation about Rasta City gangs and Muslim gangs are about to go to war, and that the TT Police Service (TTPS) is bracing for war, yet we cannot have a single arrest?"

Car parts dealer gunned down
AUTO parts dealer Simon Moss was shot and killed outside his home in St Joseph on Wednesday night.
Moss, lived at Agostini Drive with his wife and children.

Convicted: He raped schoolgirl near Devil's Woodyard
Mukesh “Legs” Ganpat has been found guilty of raping a teenager whom he offered a ride home after school.
It was the State’s case that on June 30 2004, the victim had known Ganpat for over 12 years.
She was waiting for a taxi for home for about 45 minutes when Ganpat pulled up and offered her a ride. The 18-year-old secondary school pupil, accepted. Along the way, Ganpat said he had to pass by a friend’s house and the teen made no objection.
Under cross examination during the trial heard before Justice Hayden St Clair-Douglas, the victim said she was getting a drop and people would have things to do and she could not have a problem that.

That’s the next chapter of the Galleons Passage’s journey after acting Prime Minister Colm yesterday revealed that enhancement work contracted by the ferry’s seller couldn’t be done in Cuba as planned and the vessel is instead now coming straight to T&T.
The enhancement work will be done in T&T on a phased basis while the vessel does the Tobago ferry run “very soon.”
Imbert confirmed developments in Parliament yesterday while replying to Opposition queries on the status of retrofitting work on the vessel in Cuba.

Roget: Crime worse under PNM Govt
After giving the Government a failing grade during his performance appraisal at the annual Labour Day rally in Fyzabad, Joint Trade Union Movement (JTUM) leader Ancel Roget called on citizens to use the PNM’s third anniversary in office, September 7, to rest and reflect.
His call came immediately after JTUM presented a large report card on stage at Charlie King Junction and asked the unionists gathered to grade the Government on its handling of crime, the economy, labour, health and education.
Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley was also graded and along with all the categories, he received an F.
Saying that the trade union movement should not stop at giving the Government a failing grade, Roget said there was a need to send a powerful message to ensure that they do the job they were hired to do.
“So today in the spirit of the ‘Butlerite’ tradition and in the interest of our country, we are declaring Friday, September 7, 2018, a day of rest and reflection.

Gang list shared on social media is possible hit list
Senior police in the Port of Spain Division yesterday confirmed that an 11-page document listing alleged gang members in East Port of Spain was released with the intention of alerting rival gangs to their whereabouts as potential targets for reprisal killings.
Speaking on condition of strict anonymity, the source disclosed that the list was connected to a reputed gang leader currently behind bars who released it to provide members with the names and photos of intended targets. The source also revealed that the listed individuals were expected to be targeted after the Eid ul-Fitr holiday on Friday.
The list, which contains the names, aliases, photographs and last known addresses of 45 alleged members of the Rasta City gang, surfaced on What's App today.
Newsday forwarded the list to a representative of the Ministry of National Security to determine its authenticity. The representative said the list had been forwarded to minister Edmund Dillon.

Dillon: Police unaware of gang wars in city
The T&T Police Service is not aware of any gang war pending in the Port-of-Spain division - such as between Beetham and East Port-of-Spain- but police have an action plan to deal with any gang-related activities nationwide, says National Security Minister Edmund Dillon.
He spoke about the issue in Parliament yesterday responding to Opposition queries about an anticipated “all-out gang war” between Beetham Gardens and East Port-of-Spain communities and said that police was monitoring activity there.
Dillon said he was not quite sure there was evidence of an “all-out gang warfare” in the two areas.
“Based on advice from the Commissioner of Police while there have been recent homicides in the Beetham and Belmont areas, the TTPS is not aware of any gang war pending in the Port-of-Spain Division.

‘1,355 murders under Dillon’
The heat which National Security Minister Edmund Dillon faced on the pavement outside was an indication of what was to take place inside of the Parliament chamber over the escalating crime wave.
Inside the chamber yesterday, Naparima MP Rodney Charles, piloting a motion of no confidence in Dillon, slammed the minister, saying there had been 1,355 murders under his watch. Charles said there had been a 45.6-per cent increase in murders between September 2015 and 2018.
