'Good citizens are forced to exist in caged homes' in T&T
In extending condolences to the family of murdered businessman, Simon Moss, the Greater Tunapuna Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GTCIC) has called on Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley to speak to citizens on the issue of crime.
A release stated that the Chamber continues to note with alarm the continuously spiralling crime rate in this country.
It stated that the brutal death of Moss, a car parts dealer, has sent shockwaves through the Greater Tunapuna community.
After over two years under the current administration, the GTCIC has observed the National Security Ministry, led by Edmund Dillon, is out of its depth in dealing with the crime problem. The GTCIC also notes with concern, after much political wrestling and casting aspersion on the Opposition, the present administration finally got the Anti-Gang legislation passed. A legal framework touted as a sharpened blade to cut off the tentacles of crime. One month has passed since this legislation has been enacted, yet the criminal elements in this country roam freely, while the upstanding and good citizens are forced to exist in caged homes for safety, it stated.

"Tall Man Gang" stresses Piarco residents
A GANG of seven, calling itself Tall Man Gang has been causing no end of problems for residents of North Bank Road in Piarco.
Residents say this gang is responsible for an upsurge in praedial larceny, break-ins and burglaries.
The residents complained that both the Caroni and Piarco police stations are aware of this gang due to numerous complaints they have made, but nothing has been done.
One resident said the gang stole 26 of his ducks last week. He said he moved to the area to live about a year ago and decided to rear ducks and grow ground provisions, plantains and peppers for sale
He said he purchased close to 100 ducklings with the intent of raising and then selling them. Last Wednesday he secured the ducks in a pen behind his house and went to Rio Claro to visit relatives.

Residents too scared to investigate: Murdered mans body left on street for hours
The bullet-riddled body of Martin Julien was left on a Morvant street for almost five hours after he was shot, as residents were too frightened to venture out of their homes to investigate.
At around midnight last night, Julien, 44, was standing outside his Red Hill extension, Morvant home, when neighbours reported hearing gunfire.
Residents did not investigate for fear of the gunmen and instead stayed in their homes until around 5 am, when they saw his body.
North Eastern Division police were called. The body was taken to the Forensic Science Centre, where an autopsy is expected to be done today.
