ou la la !!!

0.5
Lakmal to Devon Smith, out Bowled! What - a - ball! In-seamer jagging in off a scrambled seam, presumably from a 5'o'clock position, and an angled seam for an inswinger too so some movement in the air.

Devon Smith b Lakmal 0(4)

Surely this selection has taught some of us a lesson.
I am one of them

Right about now someone should call and talk Larro out of jumping off the building. But knowing him, he is probably in a bunker!!!! So even if he jumps, it will not hurt.

Bro, I believe in best practice and historical data.
Cannot speak for the selectors.
This should be a learning experience for all selectors, when dealing with players, age and history

That tells you all you need to know about the quality of bowling in the regional competition. If a man has such a glaring deficiency that he has not been able to address after all these years, but continues to pile up runs in the regional competition...well...

imusic 2018-06-25 16:54:15

Devon Smith is, and has been, the top batting performer in our regional FC competition for a decade.

Performance in the regional FC competition has been the clearly stated criteria for selection to the WI test team for at least a decade.

Are Devon Smith’s performances (or more appropriately lack thereof) in the international arena an indictment of the regional FC competition?

Is it fair to the regional FC competition to be so indicted?

Is it time to reassess the effectiveness of the current and traditional selection criteria to the test team?

Devon Smith
Vishal Singh
Veerasammy Permaul
Nikita Miller
Dinesh Ramdin
Tino Best
Roston Chase (recently)

All perennial top regional performers. All under performers (some totally out of their depth) at international level

Have to break my travels to say this once again.

The Burnham legacy lives on!
Put friends, family and brownies in positions they don’t belong, not qualified for but who cares?
Man without Ordinary level getting jobs that require degree preferably post grad.
Who cares that with this way of operating everything they touch becomes Shit? You guys knock your stomach and bawl all you can.
Keep on associating with shit and you will have the stain, smell and even taste.

Think the dicktatorxs care? Is their time now. In a few years time, a brand new fresh crop of shit will “rule” the land with their trademark.

I empathize with Devon Smith

I don’t think there’s anyone currently playing WI cricket that works harder than he does.

Devon Smith CAN bat

He just can’t bat at the international level. I truly wish it were different.

The most ironic thing, is that when he first came on the scene, all the angst was because Daren Ganga was getting opportunities at the perceived expense of Devon Smith

POINT used to post WICBesque volumes about the discrimination against Devon Smith and said he would never rest until Devon got as many test appearances as Ganga did.

Ganga has 48 test appearances and averaged 25.71

Devon has 41 test appearances and averages 23.71

The ironic thing is, Devon and Daren are almost mirror images. Both CAN bat. Both regularly among the top batting performers in regional cricket. Both incredibly disciplined and dedicated professionals.

Both failures at international level.

Sad

From Cricinfo commentary....

George Seed: "Sri Lanka still well in this. Smith is a walking wicket so get him early and they can still soon rattle through the windies!"

What lesson is that?

That the modern-day Windies batsmen are ill-prepared to play really good fast bowling?

If the employee doesn't have the skill, how can you hold him responsible for what he cannot do?

Fish stink from de head.

Anybody remember when we had the building of a good team?
Wha happen?
Burnham came in power and shack all the skilled people out and bring in his donkey meat friends, impersonating goat meat.

It comes from above.
Who got victimized? TNTC (too numerous to count)just like the corruption.
Shiv, Sarwan, Gayle, Nash, Taylor, Bravo to name a few who were murdered or had attempts made.

Sugar, rice, backside industry, all turn into shit.

bimbo 2018-06-26 04:19:25

It is ironic that an opening batsman was dumped after 45 tests with an average of 33 for shithounds like Ganga and Smith who after similar number of tests barely average 20.

Not saying that was a great average but Ganga and Smith were given too many chances.

what lesson. The mighty Sobers talked about recycling failures about 10 years ago. You would think that when people like Sobers talk about cricket, others would listen..So we end up with Devon doing what devon does.

We have seen it time and time again. Just like every occupation there are some people who can only go so far.
We have seen it in the NFL and NBA where teams draft the best college players and they are unable to step up to the professional level.
I had a friend who played professional rugby in England for Hull City who told me that on quite a few occasions, they drafted top amateurs and they could not stand up to even the rigours of professional training.
The Selectors must be able to assess and judge.
