THIEVES broke into the soup kitchen of the Holy Cross RC Church at Buen Intento Road, Princes Town and stole thousands of dollars' worth of goods, equipment and utensils. Parishioners made the discovery shortly after 2 pm yesterday.

The thieves left one item in the soup kitchen, a pressure cooker box. The kitchen is run by parishioners who called themselves Friends of Holy Cross RC Church.

Parishioners told police that for more than 30 years they have dedicated Wednesdays as Soup Days when parishioners cook and prepare hot meals for the less fortunate.

Today, however, it was not done.

Police said that the thieves stole a stove, food and a fridge from the kitchen, on the same compound. Last Wednesday after parishioners distributed meals they locked the kitchen and left.

FOUR gunmen robbed Massy Stores Super Centre at Gulf View La Romaine early today.

Police reports are that at about 6 am, a few staff members had arrived and had just opened the store when the gunmen ambushed them and forced their way inside.

They went to the vault and stole the undisclosed sum of cash, then left. Police believe they had accomplices in a getaway car in the parking lot. There were no reports of injuries.

The store normally opens from 8 am and closes at 8 pm.

San Fernando CID visited and searched the area for the gunmen. They are yet to make an arrest.

THE bullet-riddled body of Tjharyd Kijawa Murray, 20, of Corinth, San Fernando was found at the side of the road in Mango Alley, Laventille shortly after two this morning.

According to reports residents of the area were alerted to the sound of rapid gunfire and when they checked they found Murray’s body on the road.

Besson Street Police and a district medical officer were called and the body was removed to the Forensic Science Centre.

Murray’s murder pushed the murder toll to 275 for the year.

The burnt remains of a man were found in bushes off Rivulet Road, Couva, metres away from the home of missing teenager Anil Matagoolam on Tuesday.

But relatives of the 19-year-old man were unable to positively identify the skeletal remains.

The burnt out remains were discovered near the old Brechin Castle sugar factory, off Rivulet Road, at around 3pm.

Matagoolam's relatives visited the scene but were unable to confirm the identity.

Police said blood samples would be taken from the teen's parents to determine the identity.

His sister, Indrani Matagoolam, told the Express, "We got a call at around 3pm that Anil's body was found. But when my dad got there he could not identify anything. It was just a skull and some bones. The body was burnt out completely. So we are still hoping Anil is alive and would come home."

Matagoolam, of Rivulet Road, Couva, left his home on June 13 to visit his friends in the village and never returned.

Indrani Matagoolam, , said a police report was filed but relatives have also launched their own investigations.
