Who Need The Stars

Emir 2018-07-22 17:05:40

Big Bravo
Lil Bravo
Simmons
Ramdin
Narine
Pollard

These 6 along with Gayle,Russell, Hety, Jason and few others comprising a 17 man squad towards to WC.

Match experience, death bowling, mystery spin, expert glove work and combined experience.

But the CWI fans have drank the CWI cool aide

bobby 2018-07-22 17:16:23

Good question for discussion. The current team has no batting. Gayle and Lewis make runs every 5 to 10 innings. So eventually they will come good. Except for Dr. Dre all the rest are lost in any kind of cricket against proper bowling.

Redstar 2018-07-22 18:02:54

In reply to Emir
Do not attach star status to any of the six above unless you are talking about T20 cricket. They are not stars in Odi’s they are average as the ones present team. In my opinion to be a star in ODIs you should be averaging around 40 at least even young Bravo averages 2 in 94 Odis and he is the best of the lot. and the bowlers econ rate around 5, and 2 to 3 wickets a game.
Before you start calling for they inclusion have a look at their stats and more importantly how many odis they played

granite 2018-07-22 18:48:27

In reply to Redstar
Whatever you want to say about averages,if those players mentioned had played today Bangladesh would not have made 279,I would even add M.Samuels to those 6.

Redstar 2018-07-22 19:10:01

In reply to granite

we can sit here and talk about ifs and buts i could say if they had played it might have been worse. The reality is the only real guideline we have is stats and when we use them, those players come up short. I know that there are other criteria that go along with the stats. There is one thing to consider if these guys were playing for any of the major odi teams Eng Aus etc they probably wouldnt have played as much as 50 odis.
How is it possible we can have one of these stars playing over 100 odis and averaging 25 but we got some in the present team averaging 30 in 30 odis and they should be drop to make wa for one of these players. what evidence do you have that anything would change with these players as a matter of fact some of these players havent played one day cricket in over two years

granite 2018-07-22 19:26:55

In reply to Redstar
This team was so shyte that you will have to assume that those players mentioned, would have bowled out BD for less than 279.

Get da FUCK outta here!!!

Seechy 2018-07-23 06:53:57

Nobody can argue with this powerful champion squad:

Gayle
Lewis
Hetmyer
Samuels
Simmons
Bravo
Pollard
Ramdin
Russell
Holder
Narine
Bishoo
Paul
Joseph
Roach
Gabriel

3 openers, 2 utility middle order bats, keeper-bat, 4 world class allrounders, mystery spin, legspin, and opening and death pace bowlers

Star 2018-07-23 09:17:40

In reply to Seechy
I am not yet sold on Joseph. I believe Lil , Big B and Ambris should be in the mix.

hawk 2018-07-23 09:21:39

How many times must those guys tell you they are not available to play for the West Indies...why do you insist on selecting a team that includes them

natty_forever 2018-07-23 09:28:13

In reply to hawk… good for debate. We suck at ODI long time now. We need to look at what we doing cause it not working. However, I feel Roach and Gabriel should be here. We need wicket-taking bowlers. And just like the test side we need 5 bowlers. Wkt-keeper must bat at 1-6.

Gayle is on his way out, we should be looking a replacement.

hawk 2018-07-23 09:58:28

In reply to natty_forever

Debate is pointless when the guys have said repeatedly and explicitly indicated they are not interested. If they were then they would all play super50
I prefer Roach and Gabriel to rest and recuperate for the next test series

Your assessment on Gayle is correct any replacement will be after the world cup
Maybe someone will step forward in the next super50. However hetmyer is maturing nicely and i see him as a number 3

And ibhave stated ODIs have grown pass us we do need to find players who can score briskly like hetmyer and lewis can to be competitive again and stop looking back to pollard etal

The search continues as we only have 3 batsmen thus far

natty_forever 2018-07-23 10:08:45

In reply to hawk… well first we need to come up with a strategy of playing ODIs, as this current one na wuk! once we have a viable strategy, then we can select players accordingly.

aliaskid13 2018-07-23 11:08:58

In reply to natty_forever

The team we have now is fine. it just need a little tweaking, particularly in the bowling. If you play Joseph, he must bowl the new ball. And since he seems to be the only pacer who can bowl accurate yorkers at will, he must also bowl at the death. that alone was the biggest blunder of the game and probably where we lost. They made over 50 runs in the last 3 overs of the match...

hawk 2018-07-23 14:16:10

In reply to natty_forever

the strategy i see is runs on the board, par score in ODIs these days are in excess of 350, West Indies struggle to post these types of scores in recent times, even in Super50 you don't see it,

if we are not careful T20 would pass us as well, as teams consistently score in excess of 200 runs in 20 overs

the solution is brisk batting, clean hitting and a strike rate of 1.75 to 2.00 per ball

natty_forever 2018-07-23 14:18:36

In reply to hawk… now identify the players that meet these requirements?

Let me see if I get it, the strategy must be to score 300plus a game? Can 6 batsmen and 5 bowlers accomplish this?

If the 5 bowlers include Roach and The Angel, teams may struggle to score 300 against us.

hawk 2018-07-23 17:28:01

In reply to natty_forever

I would want to reserve Roach and Gabriel for test, we must also manage the workload of fast bowling stock, and not bowl them into retirement due to injuries, besides i am not convince even with them in the 11 opposing teams will not be able to score more then 300

5 batsmen, 1 batsman/wicket keeper, 2 all rounders and 3 pure bowlers

who do we have so far...who do we need to find?

i am sticking with Gayle, Lewis, Hetmyer, so far

natty_forever 2018-07-25 09:58:12

In reply to hawk
… Gabriel an Roach makes you need jus one more "pure bowler". And Roach can hold a bat!
big grin

U were not good in math.

Divide by 4 and you may have the right amount of stars .

To do what?...only Narine is needed if he can conceal his action when the cameras are focused on his bowling.

The records have proven that "our stars" never shone even after an average of 60 ODIs.

Wow!!! that's a gigantic sample size above.

Only mad persons do the same things over and over again expecting different results.

Spot the youngsters early and bring them in... Time to get Kirsten Kallicharran closer to the West Indies set up.

DIEHARD 2018-07-29 08:50:32

Pollard can't make the ODI team.

Ambris is probably a better candidate than Ramdin.

The Bravos and Narine can walk back into this team I think, if in form.

Simmons is 50/50..all should play in the Super 50 so we see where they at.

They been out in the wilderness too long now to know for sure.

I'd say DJB and Narine could walk back in without playing a single match..and could do no worse than our current bowlers, not so sure about the batsmen, other than Lil B

Emir 2018-07-29 10:25:40

In reply to DIEHARD

Pollard can't make the ODI team.

Perhaps, but all that the West Indies cricket fans are asking for is to fairly allow Pollard and others a chance to gain a pick- to which I am confident, if given a fair chance, they will make the team based on merit.

So it is up to those who have hijacked West Indies cricket- they called themselves CWI, to create an environment that will allow these stars to return.

Thus far the CWI have not done any thing that is conducive to creating that environment, except to talk, but we need action from them

Oilah 2018-07-29 10:37:51

What stars? shock

Our last test cricket/ODI star was Lara and only Gayle, Narine and arguably Bravo are t20 stars. We don't have stars rolleyes

1000% on board with u sentiments here...but in u initial post u made em all sound like sure picks...up to when he played his last ODI for WI..Polly deserved a rest to try out JMo, Hope and Ambris and the lot..now that we've seen what Hope can do...hopeless...right now i wanna see Ambris and Blackwood in the middle order, they the next two in line.

Polly would be vying for Powell spot, i dont think he's vying with Holder and Russel who are seen as genuine allrounders expected to bowl 10 and with the form Powell jus show...i think Polly would have to come real good to displace him.

In hindight..Lil B would not walk back into this team either..he had SR issues as well..Blackwood and Ambris dont have that issue. although they are unproven somewhat at this level...i dont think he could jump in before those two.

With all options considered..our XI could look like this

Gayle (capt)
Lewis (still no contenders for the opening spot)
Hetmyer
Blackwood
Ambris (wk)
R Powell
Russel
Holder
DJ Bravo
Narine
Roach/ Gabriel

That is prolly our best ODI XI right now..real or imagined

Gayle and Blackwood would have to be willing to give the odd over of spin support if required.

Emir 2018-07-30 20:42:34

In reply to DIEHARD

Gayle is not interested in captaincy. The person most qualify is Ramdin. You can't have a part time gloveman in England.

In addition, Sunil will play pinch hit- he will open the innings with Lewis at 3

tc1 2018-07-30 21:03:00

Czar, Sunil will not face the starters, he will not Jeopardized (je ne sais quoi) his cash to play England Spain nor France.

we clear on this, Czar

There are club stars, not international T20 stars, the only that could be considered a IT star is Bravo.

tc1 2018-07-31 17:42:30

In fact the only IT20 we had were Gayle and Samuels.

Redstar 2018-07-31 18:05:35

In reply to DIEHARD
We usually fall on opposite side of the fence with most issues and this one is no exception however I agree with some of what you said
1)CWI has extended an olive branch to the T20 rebels however it is unlikely that any of them will play in the WC
a)Most of them have not played one day cricket in a couple of years
b)Even when they played in the pass they did set the cricket field alight (check stats)
c)Each of them has their own individual problems ie. Narine has a suspect action and probably will not want to play. His management team has done a very good job of keeping him way from the spotlight. He plays in T20 comps where he probably would not be call but saying all that he is the only one I would take a punt on
2)Gayle as captain NO!!
a)Have you not notice that Gayle can hardly string together 3 odi matches in a row and he does play he is not on the field for the entire match is he going to captain from the pavilion. As a matter of fact after just playing 3odis he has been rested in his favoured format T20
b)I am not sure Gayle wants to take on the responsibility anyway.
c)Is this a captain for the future?
d)The WC is Gayle last sing song he deserves it for his contribution to WI cricket let him enjoy it.
I know you not going to like this but Jmo is going to be the captain for the WC. I can see why you went for Gayle when you look down your team there is no one else who qualifies
3 DJ Bravo should not make the WC team
a)He is not the player he was 5 or 6 years ago
b)We need a death bowled but the bowler has to be able to take wickets up front as well I don’t think DJ fits the bill
On the other hand, I think if DM Bravo comes back the same batsman as he was in 2016 then he should make the squad. We me to play our best batsmen forget SR, it wasn’t so long ago we weren’t even batting the 50 overs we need specialist batsmen SR will come.

I notice you only pick 11 you need to pick 15 the 11 would be pick on the day depending on conditions and pitch.
Here is my 15
Openners
Gayle
Lewis
J Campbell
Specialist Bats
Hetmyer
Ambris
Hope
Bravo
Samuels
All rounders
Holder
Russell
R Powell
Bowlers
Roach
K Paul
A Joseph
Narine / Nurse / Bishoo

Big Bravo
Lil Bravo
Simmons
Ramdin
Narine
Pollard

The only star I see there is Narine, in every sense.
Lil Bravo might have become a good batsman but for external (or internal) issues.
Others might have a hard time breaking in.
