Narper 2018-08-12 17:36:56

Holder:
There is no pressure, it is just another cricket game. It is a good wicket, obviously would have been nice to bowl first. We have a few plans up our sleeves and would have been nice to execute them today.

Malik:
We're going to bowl first. Well what we have seen in the last two games that we've played here is that under lights the ball comes on nicely with the dew. We are professional players and our job is to do our best for whichever side we play for. You'd need to ask the owners why players weren't retained (smiles).

Narper 2018-08-12 17:39:42

Here's Tino Best with the pitch-cum-weather report:

The amount of rain in the atmosphere this morning is going to play a big part today.

It is going to be very important for the bowlers to hit the right length since the ball will stay a bit low to start off with. But the teams batting first will need to ensure that the put up a big score

Tanvir to Guptill, out Caught by Emrit!! Waoh. You screaming beauty Emrit. Guptill does nothing wrong, gets under the full length and smokes a drive wide and over mid-off. Poor Guptill, he just didn't know of Emrit's whereanouts, who leaps up one-handed, timing it to perfection as the ball sticks and refuses to pop out even as he falls over on his head

Guptill c Emrit b Tanvir 0(2)

Emrit to Shai Hope, FOUR, juicy length, very straight as well and Hope whips it across the line, into a wide gap at cow corner. Never mind the dive in the deep, he can't stop it from rolling over

Tahir to Smith, out Lbw!! Smith doesn't wait for the umpire decision. Buries his head down and starts ambling furiously towards the dressing room as the umpire puts his finger up. As expected, it's the googly from Imran Tahir; pitches in line with middle and pins him around top of leg. Huge appeal and given. Replays prove that the ball was doing too much and may have missed the leg peg.

Pressure and the fear of failure? Or perhaps he is under instructions from the coach to take his time (some players find it difficult to accelerate after starting slow).

K Paul to Shai Hope, SIX, serving upto Shai Hope's strengths. He is being helped by some rubbish bowling by the Warriors: Full and wide, Hope clubs it clean and flat over extra cover

Narper 2018-08-12 19:19:48

17.5
K Paul to Shai Hope, out Caught by Hetmyer!! And the hope of getting a 100 ends. Keemo Paul shortened his length and offered no pace to complicate matters for Hope, he looked to smash it flat, but can only hit it as far as long-on. Easy catch for Hetmeyer

18.4
Tanvir to Pooran, 1 run, brilliant effort from Walton. Nearly pulled off a screamer. He was adjacent to the deep mid-wicket ropes and he jumped over 'em to grab it cleanly, but as the momentum pushed him back, he flung the ball back into play in the nick of time. All that after Pooran belted one out of the screws

Holder to Walton, SIX, straight down the ground gets underneath the full delivery and clubs it clean straight back over the bowler's head

Narper 2018-08-12 19:55:46

1.6
Holder to Walton, out Lbw!! Appeal for lbw and given. Seemed fifty-fifty to the naked eye, but this track isn't known to offer any zippy, extra bounce. Holder gets this to land on a length and strikes Walton quite low having caught him on the back foot shuffle, the umpire takes his time before unveiling the dreaded finger. Would have crashed into leg IMO

Walton lbw b Holder 6(cool [6s-1]

Narper 2018-08-12 20:04:53

3.5
Holder to Hetmyer, SIX, that's inviting danger. Full ball in the zone, Hetmyer clears his front leg and smites it all the way

3.6
Holder to Hetmyer, FOUR, now the length is short and what does Hetmyer do? Gives himself enough room to spank the ball in the gap through mid-wicket, sheer power

R Reifer to Hetmyer, out Caught by Guptill!! Double blow for the Warriors. Poor shot selection from Hetmyer. There was a man stationed near the deep mid-wicket fence and he pulled it straight towards him to his right. A simple grab for Guppy. Nothing special about this wicket though

Nurse to Shoaib Malik, out Bowled!! Oh what do we know? Nurse responds by holding onto the ball longer, denying Malik pace, or the space to work this around. Tried dabbing it past the keeper, but the ball just jagged in sharply, beat the bat, took the under-glove and rebound to dislodge the stumps. Is that the game?

18.5
R Reifer to Rutherford, out Caught by Pooran!! A troubled stay ends with a troubled shot. It was short, it was slow, but Rutherford, as has been all through the innings, goes hard at this one as well - loses shape obviously as he pulls - and spoons it off the outside of his glove to balloon over to the keeper. What's more, Reifer has a fifer.

Riaz to Tanvir, out Bowled!! The leg-cutter now does the business. Tanvir was merely going through the motions, heaves all over it, getting undone by the lack of pace, getting undone by the lack of bounce and watches his stumps take the beating

Tanvir b Riaz 0(1)

I never liked that pelting skunt !!!

Warriors need to solve this batting problem. Ronchi at the top is not a good idea. Too many slowish batsmen in the middle order.

Send Tanvir to hit at the top or get Gaja up there

they need another spinner in this team as well

Jason Mohamed has no place in this team

19.6
Riaz to K Paul, no run
19.5
Riaz to K Paul, no run, takes his eyes off, looking elsewhere as he goes through with his heave to leg. But the tennis-ball-like bounce smashes him on the shoulder, and then on the helmet
19.4
Riaz to K Paul, no run, another change of pace, but in the form of a short ball now. Paul makes room, trying to pump it over with his pull .. nah, can't even connect

Story of the chase.....dot ball after dot ball

Rutherford batted too slowly, but at least he is developing.
The managers of some of these teams seem more interested in helping their friends than in developing young WI talent.
Anyway, excellent effort by the Tridents!

Tridents won this by putting an excellent total on the board. Shai surprised everyone!

Rutherford a real club level slugger lost the game for warriors as the bowlers glad to bowl at him. Hety deserve blame too , what a brainless lash!

doosra 2018-08-12 21:44:03

Rutherford should be bowling

can't have Paul and Emrit in same team...i think they bring similar...

bowl Rutherford and get another spinner in there.

They have to change things up

Malik seems static in his thinking as well

Raymon Reifer, Man of the Match:
They got off to a good start and when I came in I wasn't looking to take wickets and was only looking to keep it tight. This performance is right up there with my other fifers. This is our first game and I was searching for good rhythm; luckily I have it now and would look to put it to good use for my team. Hetmyer's wicket was my favourite of the lot.

Narper 2018-08-12 21:53:32

Jason Holder:
Well balanced right now. Really happy with the way the boys played their cricket. We knew 185 would be a good total and credit to the batsmen in the middle stages to get us there. We have some quality players in our side; it was good that Shai stepped up today. We have a lot to improve and do not want to get complacent. We have a wealth of knowledge in the team with the likes of Smith to help us on the field. Reifer was outstanding at the start, came back well in the middle and it was good to see him start off the tournament well.

Narper 2018-08-12 21:53:56

Shoiab Malik:
It happens in cricket where you win and lose games, but it is important how we come back. Credit goes to Shai Hope and Smith for the way they batted after losing early wickets. Also Pooran then exploited the momentum in the end. If you play on a good pitch, we need to contain the opposition to under 160. Also with our batting if someone scores a fifty, we end up on the winning side.
