Resolve this: When a batsman advances...

aggressively to hit a boundary...what is it that he has to do, to absolutely make sure he makes contact & not miss the ball to either get clean bowled or stumped? I have a theory...but, I want to hear U pundits fuss!

Watch the ball and keep the head still... or did you want something complex?

If you knew you wouldn’t be asking, plus you would have been a world class cricketer if you did!
Obviously you cannot advance down the track as soon as you come in to bat like Smith did, without knowing what the ball is doing!

Hola...without being insultive its obvious that cricket is not your game...
it dont matter what the ball will do..turn left,right,straight...
YOU HAVE TO GET TU THE PITCH OF THE BALL..that means exactly what it says..where the ball pitches and hit the ground at that precise moment your bat must connect with the ball...
its called..smothering the spin and/or getting to the pitch of the ball..
Guyanese and Trinis are artful in this as lots of spinner come through the system..

Yes, you’re correct! However, the times you attempt to come down the track and don’t quite get there, it is helpful to know what the ball is doing off the pitch! Kabitch! Which is what often happens to even TOP CLASS players! wink

Get to the pitch as has already been touched. If not then watch the hand and ball rotation so you know what it's going to do.

Btw if one wants to come down the track and hit a 6, the batsman does not want to be completely to the pitch otherwise he won't get the elevation.

Hola....its very difficult to read a spin bowler that goes both way with same action...a bowler like Bishoo will never create problems even to a blind batsman...as he is highly predictable at 99.99 percent. This is not about Bishoo but I am trying to draw a comparison.
Other spinners with variety will make you walk past the ball..as in the case of Smith last night...
if you really want to be sure...just stay in crease and stretch forward to the pitch...but if that wily spinner draws you out well Bob's your uncle...
In most cases a good cross bat could help...
Gleason from Australia had batsmen waiting to come in watching him with binoculars to see if they can pick him.

In reply to StumpCam Stumpy, my good man...lets look at it from the bowlers' perspective, then we gwine try to resolve this...if the astute bowler knows that the batsman is under pressure to score, that bhai, Runs...wouldnt he be keen to observe the batsman's body language/make assumptions (hoping to be correct) & bowl accordingly, as in shorting the ball? So, this is my view of absolutely making sure of the advancing batsman to make contact with the ball: have a calm batting demeanor - dont show any signs of anxiousness; a hawk eye look on the bowler (like Adrian Barath, Shiv, Tage or Bajan batsmen); very patiently waiting for the ball to flow from the bowler's hand - as soon as that happens, advance QUICKLY WITH SHORT STEPS with bat close to pad, center & beat the ball...not necessarily to get a boundary! Oh, dont look at that as a contradiction or should I be PC & say hit the ball accordingly!? See, Stumpy...I wanted to see which one of you pundits think as I do!

That’s a wonderful theory, however the problem comes in with the execution! It’s a lot easier said than done! lol lol

I still maintain that Smith should not have attempted that shot on the second delivery against a bowler he probably never faced before!

In reply to StumpCam Precisely why coaches should micromanage that particular practice session! Smith was on a high horse being he's a world class batsman, ent?
