Rest in eternal peace, Count. Thanks, Mike. I remember him well from the time of his hits. I even caught him in guest roles a couple of times in "Desmond's".

There was another hit he had in Ja after "Mule Train", which I cannot readily find on-line now--

Mama mortgage yuh land and let me have de money mek me drink hot hops and have fun.

His funeral is today. His son was so distraught that he asked my wife to organise it.

"Mule Train" was a big hit with us, as boys growing up in the Caribbean.

Thanks, Count Prince Miller.

My first experience of Prince Miller is when he tour Bim with Byron Lee, also on the trip was the Blue busters,Keith lynn and Ken Lazarus , we as youngsters were in love this music when we heard it for the first.
We jump the wall to Miramir hotel to see the the show ,what a show the guys put on, also there that night was Rohan Kanhai who was in bim to play against B'dos , he did not scored any runs against Charlie.

RIP Count.

WOW! I remember seeing him in a concert doing his mule train song, shaking his head, mimicking a mule --- that generation seems to be cutting out… RIP

There is a version of this song called "Mortgage" by drummer Hugh Malcolm. Could be the song that you are looking for. I believe this originally was a mento song.

You know, CW, I think you're right; that's the song, I believe. What may have happened is that when the Count came to Ja during in the early 70's I may have caught a live performance by him wherein he must have performed it. I worked for JBC-Tv then and we may have even broadcast it. My brain has, since then, associated the tune with him.

Thanks, sah.

That's the song ...
Also recall that Count Prince Miller was aka "Horsemouth".

RIP Count ... he made our youthful days merry, alongside Bobby Aiken, Carlos Malcolm, Prince Buster, the melodies from Alton Ellis, Stranger Cole, Higgs/Wilson.

Yes sir the people on your list deserve recognition. These were early Ska singers. To that list of late 50's early 60's pioneers I must add some favorites from my short pants days namely, Laurel Aitken, Derrick Morgan, Eric Morris, Owen Gray and Delroy Wilson,

Oh, how I do relate! Joe White and Chuck, Stranger Cole, Patsy Todd, Millie Small, Doreen Schaeffer, The Wailing Wailers, The Maytals, Justin Hines, and I'll repeat Laurel Aitken here, but this time as leader of the Carib Beats band.

The Star on Fridays would feature artistes of the period and I possessed a sizable stack of cut-outs by the time I entered high school.

Memory lane, bros.
