Jamaica Scorpions Super 50 Squad
In reply to TyTy35
Strong squad. Good to see Blackwood featuring I hope he makes lots of runs and forces his way into World Cup squad.
Bonnor? Really? Bonnor too lethargic at the crease. There must be a better option.
Aldaine Thomas should be in this squad.
John Campbell can't make that squad?
Who bats 3 in this team?
I figure Palmer, Gordon and Lamont sitting
John Campbell comes into the squad after Gayle leaves for India. Bonner at four has been pretty solid for Jamaica in the pass couple of years, An average of 32 isnt terrible, but I think with the number of games he has played he should have been closer to 40.
Gayle
Walton
Blackwood
McCarthy
Bonner
King
Powell
Allen
Miller
Taylor
Thomas
In reply to TyTy35
That's not the order I had..but it seems about right.
I had Powell at 4 and King 5, the power of the CPL I tell ya
But McCarthy and Bonner probably should be 4 and 5 instead.
Powell comes in with 10- 15 overs to go at 7, I think he's proving to be better than that, especially at this level
In reply to buds
I have to agree with you about Bonnor, anyone that been around regional cricket for 7 years or more and average in the low thirties, should find other employment.
Shouldnt Bonner be playing for Leewards?
This team have some match winners.
In reply to TyTy35
I dont understand why John Campbell is not in the squad, surely he should be in before Bonner.
What I dont understand is why we in the west indies think we need to pick loads of T20 in 50 over squads. what qualifies Walton to open the batting before campbell.
Yes we need power hitters between overs 35-50 but we meed decent batsmen for the first 35. Hence we have J Root and K Williamson averaging 51 and 46 in ODIs with strike rates above 80 and they both bat in the top 4.
Why no Donavan Pagon?????

Selectors, an explanation is required why no John?
Marlon Samuels?
gayle is leaving for afghan not india

Both Bonner and Walton are products (if not relics) of the now defunct HPC / CCC. Even if for sentimental reasons only, we need to continue showing that those organizations made positive contribution(s) to our development.
In reply to Drapsey who is the wicket-keeper?

The players that played on CWI B team, should continue with that team, if I were Campbell I would not want to sit, until Gayle leave, when the B team is playing in the same tournament.
A strong team...good to see mih bwoy JB back at the crease!
In reply to openning
Imagine a guy on the verge of making WI senior team and one the better openers in the Caribbean gotta sit and wait until Gayle leave.. Youth should be there ahead of Walton, Bonner or Palmer..
Hope he choose the WI B team.. For sure he gonna be playing all the matches there..
oh by the way Reifer back in Guyana.. Told the selectors he wanna play for Jaguars in the Super50.. Barbados refused to pick him?
In reply to anthonyp… I am now sure he chose to play with the B team, why he wasn't picked for the Yaad.
In reply to anthonyp
Reifer is contracted by the Jaguars, just like Kyle Mayers and Kirk Edwards by the Windward franchise and Kyle Hope by the Red Force, you making too much out of where a player is playing.
It is Franchise cricket.
In reply to openning
Reifer was contracted by the Jaguars.. not anymore he on a CWI contract..
After the last season he told the selectors he wanna play for Barbados.. Guess it didn't work out for him..
In reply to TyTy35
I notice that there are no players from different islands in the squad. We normally have Griffith and another (bearded) Guyanese whose name slips me at the moment. Any news on why they have been left out or no other players from outside Jamaica making the squad.
In reply to TyTy35
Great team, lots of talented players but wound have liked to see John Campbell. Young talents like Fabian Allen, McCarthy, Powell, King and Thomas need to perform consistently, as apparently Yardies need superior performances than others to obtain West Indies selection.

Where is Marlon?

Marlon is/was a Hurricane

he played 50/50 last year for bim?
In reply to tc1
Link Text Reifer played three matches for the Jaguars last Regional Super50.

Looks like a tech error, no intentions of posting anyone's advertisements. My apologies folks!
Apparently, the JCA and the selectors owe Palmer big time for something else I can't see why he makes any Jamaica
squad/team over Campbell, a WI 'A' team player. This needs to be investigated. In my view Palmer cannot bat and Campbell
at least is better and is also a useful offspinner.
Palmer was the one who was made captain of the 4-day team once and he was making his debut in that very game.
He should not even be a reserve based on his record as a batsman at this and FC level.
What gives ????
In reply to hubert
If you were in Campbell shoes and had the option of sitting out the first set of matches for Jamaica or playing in all matches for CWI B, which team will you choose to play for?
Gayle and Walton will be opening for the Scorpions.
In reply to openning CWI B
In reply to openning
CWI would be an obvious choice. Why risk it when Yard not short of openers.
In reply to hubert
I always wonder about Palmer too, he is the Sammy of Jcan cricket, hopefully the selectors see something worthy in him that has defied fans.
In reply to Slipfeeler
Just messing with you
In reply to hubert
I think that Campbell was a better bat at 13 -16 than he is today, the boy could have walk into the
JA team at 13 , no joke
In reply to Larr Pullo
The best player from the WI since Rowe.
In reply to buds
Wrang! I believe Sir Don Pagon is/was Jamaica's best batsman since Rowe.
In reply to openning
Was he given that option ?. If yes, he made the right decision to play for the national team. He will have
some 6 matches to play in his regular slot as opener which he does for the 4-day cricket. And two of those
games could be against Bim. A player can also feel more comfortable playing with known and familiar faces rather
than a make up team.
The question to be asked is what upside Walton has a 50 over opener going forward for WI. I can't see him in a World Cup squad, much less in that role.
Campbell should be in the 11 as Gayle's partner.
BTW, what are the groups and fixtures for the Super 50 ?
In reply to tc1
I don't know about that. What I do know is that he has not kicked on seeing he was Paint's opening partner at one time.
Perhaps he lacks focus as he certainly has the ability to bat and with the paucity of openers now .(.who are the ones picked for India,Bangladesh Tests ?),..
he has missed the bus so far. I like his aggressive approach however.
In reply to hubert
Why should he sit and wait for Gayle to go on tour, when he can play every game in the very same tournament?
He has already played two tournaments with this team, so he know the guys, until he is pencil in as a starter, he should be selfish and think of his future.
[b]In reply to openning[/
Did he get such an option ? Lets go from there. OK ?
In reply to hubert
This was my first post on the topic.
I don't know, but I hope he is given that option.
In reply to hubert
I agree wholeheartedly in regards to Palmer. He cannot bat, period. This favouritism must end. Why not an Aldaine Thomas or JCampbell?
In reply to hubert
You are making some astute observations. Who better to partner with than CGayle.. Walton days appear to be over. CBrung not gonna pick him.
[b]In reply to buds[/b
Just maybe, Palmer is a better Reader
In reply to hubert
A better clapper aka Scammy.
In reply to buds
That is the selected squad, until Gayle and others leave for the Indian tour, Campbell is not in the X111.
In reply to openning
Why should the players on a B Team stay with the B' Team for the domestic 50 over tourney ?
From what you wrote and talking about it seems he was picked for the 'B' team.
One thing . It's not the amount of matches that he would play that should count, it should be
the quality of his production against stronger teams as this would weigh heavily in the 'quality of runs'
category in the selectors whether he played 10, 8, 6 or 4 matches.
The Jamaica selectors erred in not naming him, their regular FC opener in the original squad.
That environment may well be more comfortable to the player
in trying to address the selectors.
Bus has pointed to the omission of Oshane Thomas too.His keeping is also on par with Walton.
This fellow is probably the best player of spin in all Jamaica...Don't know how well he READS,but he
certainly is a better prospect than Palmer in my book...and not because we both hail from the same
Parish, St.Mary
You enjoy your day as you probably highlight one big reason for Jamaica's cricket decline post Lambert.
BTW ,see any parallels re Jason Bennett. Remember him..weight of wickets did him no good repping for 'B' team .
In reply to openning
I know the squad selected .I just cannot see Palmer making this JA squad along with Bonnor. Why not let Campbell open with Gayle till he leaves for India? Not to select Campbell is dumb and trivial.
In reply to hubert
Absolutely spot on..Aldaine Thomas
In reply to buds
Opening means well but he is not nuanced as to the mindset of Jamaica's cricket administrators/selectors.
It will be a while before they get another Test player on the WI team too..perhaps never
In reply to buds
Palmer is a UWI man, is Campbell?
You know Windies peeps give preference to scholarship!
In reply to hubert
All I am saying is, if he is not going to be selected and start and have options, do what best for him.
It is about his career, not about the Scorpions.
The BCA been through
this will players playing for CCC, because they knew they had to sit.
BTW, word on the street is, Carlos Brathwaite will be captaining CCC, making room for a youngster on the Pride squad.

That is stated better. Sure. But you were making as if that he was either to pick himself for the 'B' team or he refused an option to play for same.
The truth is he should have pencilled into the Jamaica squad at the outset.
Knowing how the think tank is in Jamaica cricket, it could be a message to Campbell that they are about to
dump him even though unlike others picked he is still in the CWI books.
In reply to hubert
The reason I add my two cents to the topic is, hearing the Graves saying on the Mason show, that the B team will be selected, after the regional team.
Seeing that Campbell was not selected by the Scorpions, I lend my penny to the topic.
... and if he turns out for the B team?
