I'll seize the opportunity to share my Rolls Royce story.

Years ago I got caught in a traffic jam on East Shore Road in Great Neck, NY. Finally getting to the source of the jam, I noticed a Rolls Royce with hood (ok, the bonnet) open, the only time I've ever had such an observation. On a second look I noticed it was the one and only Frankie Crocker(sp) under-the-hood.

pelon 2018-09-21 09:13:26

If you ask Mike Tyson what are his biggest regrets, in interviews online, it's not biting ears... it's being ignorant of the ramifications of spending foolishly.
Evander Holyfield had a house and estate so big, near ATL, it had it's own zip code & they named the highway after him. He is now broke.

Rappers, sports stars, entertainers fail to accept one reality: it is hard to maintain a lifestyle over time when the BIG PAYDAYS stop.

Just yesterday, we heard Kevin Garnett lost 70 Million+ to fraudulent money managers.

If a blinged out Bentley excites you... great. He can afford 10 Bentleys as of TODAY... Call Gary Sobers about going broke until the government(also broke) stepped in.

That is gaudy AF - but Gayle can blow his money on his terms.

One question, why not UB instead of CG when the car has Universe Boss emblazoned on it?
BTW, it’s tastefully done, not too over the top! wink

Drapsey 2018-09-21 10:14:06

While Gayle is still the topic of conversation, here's yet another record set by the self-claimed Universe Boss.

Who travelled how much: from Grace to Gayle

DEVASHISH FULORIA | SEPTEMBER 21, 2018

Chris Gayle has clocked more than two million kilometres in the game, shuttling from one ground to the next, making him the most-travelled cricketer ever. Think of that number for a moment. If Gayle were an astronaut, that distance would cover three round trips to the moon. It is equivalent to circling the planet 50 times. If he was just shooting up like a rocket, he would have gone way beyond any human ever has.

My question would be, why shouldn't he do some of his traveling in his gold-plated Bentley if he so chooses?

Looks like the man has earned it, doesn't it?

BTW, Pollo's travels to Bavaria /Deutschland, Africa (at large), and Scandinavia can't even come close. wink

JayMor 2018-09-21 10:15:18

In reply to pelon

As dem Ghanaians would say, "Allow de man small small". If I bought a brand new Toyota Supra at age 36 (granted it wasn't special-ordered) then Chris buying a Bentley at 39 is reasonable. If he were in his twenties then perhaps... But I saw no reports of extravagance and wantonness over his time.

Nice part of the island

Had the pleasure of working in that area for 14 years, followed by another 3 years in nearby Lake Success.

My cousin called Great Neck the 2 Mercedes town, meaning that every family had 2 of those.

Serious: let's leave world boss CHG out of a question below (so people don't take it as 'a thing against Gayle')

Look you cannot take it to the grave so let him enjoy the fruits of his labour.

Your point is noted. Yet enjoy, is confused with "squander".

Question Nick: Is a life well lived about blowing money sub 50s and potentially going broke in your latter years?
What about the long arc of time. What about (BLACK) GENERATIONAL WEALTH and generational legacy??? We in our region have little concept of financial legacy.

Your own position of "you can't take it to the grave" is a good point, and oft repeated - yet that quote is a misnomer here.
Balance, generosity and long term financial security are 10000 times more meaningful as a "life lived" than blowing your earned nest egg and spending old age on handouts...

I could be wrong, I often am.

Car, house, maybe a few investments. What else is he doing with his money? Buying oodles of champagne to take a bath in nightly?

If this is his treat to himself and spends the rest of his money wisely then that would be fine, right?

How is his restaurant and bar doing?

Bob had a history of leaving his BMW unlocked while visiting his old haunt Trench Town, all in the effort to show the locals that he doesn't consider himself above them nor the community at large.

Gayle might just emulate when visiting Rollington Town. wink

You're reading too much into it bro.... so it's ok if it's a "regular" bentley? The gold-part just made it too much?

Truly wealthy people have other things like a helicopter, Jet, or Yacht, etc.

What's the difference? Nothing wrong with personalizing it to your taste.... cool

Pollo, Gayle is the one who physically goes out to bat day after day, night after night, hitting those sixes. What if he wants to reward himself by driving around in a $250,000 gold plated Bentley?

Whatever "residue" is left for his off-springs should certainly translate to a greater start than he had in Rollington Town.

Let the man enjoy the fruits of his labor in the way he chooses. Better him than some "Money Managers".

One more item on this Gayle thing.

Just after Gayle made his first triple against the Saffies, I was at a match (Alpart) where he was playing for Jamaica against the Windwards. His sister was walking around the field proudly talking about the US$300,000 that he had in the bank at the time.

He has really come a long way since then.

JohnBull 2018-09-21 12:48:07

There are peeps with ten times the cash as Chris who drive normal cars and peeps with one-tenth who drive more expensive ones. So to each his own but I have to agree with pelon and Larr --- to me it's devotion to flash and bling instead of pragmatism and prudence in the face of the unknown future.

We all know the many stories of athletes and celebrities who were rolling in dough yesterday but boxing shyte outta hog mouth today. Hopefully Chris will not be one of them.

JahJah 2018-09-21 12:53:04

Like really?

Haha.

Didn't you, Larr, read Gayle's book about he almost died? Now he's living his life as he coulda been dead long time....

I am ambivalent about the prudence of this ---- so I rationalize it this way – the company/individuals involved in producing the vehicle benefits.
spending money at a store in a community. ... Return three times as much money per dollar-back to the local community --- so whatever the cost of the car --- the money multiplicative factor provides huge benefits to others ---- plus Chris is magnified and happy ---- some of us may not like the community where he spends his money – but wherever it is – the money is helping someone/community

CITYBOY 2018-09-22 08:00:09

Hola...most of the posts here about Gayle's purchase is irrelevant and reeks of jealousy. You live within your means and purchase what you can afford...that is straight up common sense.
Did Gayle ask any of you for a loan to buy his car?Did any of you contribute to his success?
If that his way of rewarding himself for hard work and success ..so be it...whether you would do something like this is irrelevant...it's Gayle's decision to do whatever he wants with his money..period.
Enjoy the ride Gayle and when you get tired of the Rolls I will buy it for 10 cents on the dollar/
adios

I disagree with that statement.

Betsy Devos, United States Secretary of Education owns nine (9) luxury yachts. What is the difference here Larr?

Instead of driving around she is sailing around in 9 luxury yachts. No criticism there?

bravos 2018-09-22 13:14:31

It's not a bad move,he didn't do it with the latest latest continental GT,someone else already took first loss on that car and Chris pimped it out which is the right approach, clearly a pristine example and a very good move, probably saved over 100k sterling..
