He was speaking on the heels of Monday's announcement by Cricket West Indies that men's head coach Stuart Law would quit the side at year end, following just under two years in charge.
The decision left CWI with the task of finding their fourth head coach in nine years after Barbadian Ottis Gibson was sacked in 2014 following four years in charge, and Phil Simmons got the axe two years ago.
"I am not surprised [by Law's decision] because I knew it was going to happen, and if they don't get fired, then they resign, they move on," Roberts said.
"It's a reflection because we don't have good cricketers, and that's the bottom line, and nobody wants to be hanging on for hanging on sake. [At this point] I would just hire somebody to go with the team, cut down on all of that backroom staff they have so we can focus on playing cricket."
Law, an Australian who played one Test, replaced Simmons, who was fired in September 2016, five months after leading West Indies to their capture of the Twenty20 World Cup in India.

In my opinion this is an indictment on the system. Why are players not good enough being produced by the system. Time to revisit what's happening at the grass root level. Get our best coaches involved here, may make a difference. Academy any one?

Andy is a fool. He's saying administration plays no part in developing good cricketers. He's a dumb ass who does not understand why countries with superior resources have invested in cricket at all levels and produced a better end product.

While we may have some lazy players, we simply don't have the luxury afforded to our counterparts to be on their level. I am sure some lazy players and in England and Australia as well.

Yes, him from all cricket administration. It is not the first time he has made absurd comments and he is consistent with his modus operandi of never criticizing the WICBC, the administrators and coaches.

In his world, 100% of the time, the fault is with the players.

These former players knew how to play cricket but it is clear that they don't know much of anything else. High Level Coaching is a profession which means that you have to produce results. No coach assigned to the top teams or touted for a high level pick is willing to take on a project that is long term if there is no end product.

It's all about immediately competing for trophies or winning and what that means on your CV. Stuart Law came, saw and conquered and his time was up IN HIS OWN MIND and before any possible fallout before or at World Cup 2019. Nothing to do with the players even if we can all agree that the class of 2018 is no where near Robert's class of the late 70's and early 80's.


The West Indies' issue re: coaching is that we are mislead that our once former glory makes us attractive to the top coaches...Negative

Somehow and somewhere we have to find a coach that truly has a vested interest in West Indies Cricket maybe because of that said legacy, who understands the project and is in it for the long term, who will be allowed to work in an environment that allows for incremental improvement and not unrealistic goal-setting and certainly not someone who only knows how to work with the so-called "super athlete". More Klopp and less Mourinho.

Of course they are such coaches available perhaps they do not fit the required profile of either Joe Public in the West Indies or the Officials at the Cricket Board.

Dude if you feel these guys were the reason for the success of the T20 teams, a number of them are doing the opposite, with the longer version.
Viv, Llyod, Garner and others, were at sometime involve in Regional boards and the WICB, yet we are still at the bottom.

I am still to know who these former players that were in charge of the shorter format of the game. Maybe if we know who they are we could big them up. As far as I remember, the former stars had very little to do with the organisation and administration of the shorter format of the game.

We have had over the period of the last 8 years some of the best T20 players no doubt...two titles prove that and I dare say whether or not Sammy was captain.

Having the setup now to produce winning ODI and Test teams even with these same players, different story. Thankfully for most of them they have had the issues with the board and get a pass instead of having a track record in ODIs and Test for everyone to see.

While no one doubts whether or not these former players know about the bat and ball of the technical side of the cricket is that all that is required in these time to run a successful program?
