Holder praised Marlon Samuels as one of WI Best.

Slipfeeler 2018-10-21 09:10:41

Jason Holder has praised Marlon Samuels as one of West Indies' best, as the veteran right-hander prepares to play his 200th one-day international today.

The 37-year-old Samuels is the most experienced player in an otherwise inexperienced 15-man touring party for the five-match series against India, and will become only the eighth West Indies player to achieve 200 ODIs, behind Brian Lara, Shiv Chanderpaul, Chris Gayle, Desmond Haynes, Carl Hooper, Sir Richie Richardson and Courtney Walsh.

He's obviously got a wealth of experience and thrives on competition. He's one of the most competitive players I've ever come across. There's a reason he's playing his 200th game tomorrow because he's done well. Hopefully, he'll pass the knowledge to the younger lot".

Excerpts from the Jamaica Gleaner.

Just shows how far we've fallen since he can't tie the shoelaces of any of the 200 match players before him.

Great off-field move and comments Captain Holder! We need the veterans to provide younger players with mentorship and on the field guidance and motivation. Like what the Shiv did for young Blackwood, during the young batsman's first century innings.

That's not a kind thing to say about our two-time World Cup MVP. Not many players in WI region can claim that title. He might not be the most consistent but when he is inform, bowlers feel his wrath.

As West Indian we have short memories or just ungrateful. Have we already forgotten that without Marlon we might not even be going to the WC. Also without Marlon then Sammy might not even be boasting about two WC captain winner? SMH again!

We talking about ODI not T20.

Samuels has been PROLIFIC in India and, thankfully, can usually be relied on to contribute more than "intangibles" !!!

voiceofreason 2018-10-21 10:33:55

Prolific in India on the flat tracks but little else, anywhere else. Spoonhead aka Iconman needs to be retired...

jacksprat 2018-10-21 10:39:06

Maybe, but at least, even if occasionally, he does contribute to the team's success, which is more than could be said about those who could only contribute copious clapping and "intangibles".

I could have missed it, but somehow I don't recall you ever calling for the retirement of those useless waste of space!! big grin smile

Make runs or make way! I wonder if that applies to Marlon Samuels? Since his Hundred vs Australia in 2016 Marlon Samuels averages 25.87 in 16 innings.

Sammy's lifetime average is 21.6, so what's your point?

That's why he not in the Squad

Samuel living on pass glory

Pooran in form now and should be in the starting 11

Curtis 2018-10-21 14:47:16

Holder is a company man. Will parrot the company line.

WTF is Samuel's doing on any WI team in 2018????

Samuel living on pass glory

We all pass glory around sometimes. But if you are referring to something that happened before now, the word is past.

And, by the way....

The man's name is Samuels - with an ESS.

A word of caution:

Don't bother go spell it SamuelESS now though.

I blaming auto check

Does not change the fact that Samuels should not be in this team

His glory days are behind him

A golden opportunity is being missed to groom a younger batsman

Pooran would have been a better pick

He should have pulled a Lewis who knows he is not in form and drops himself

This would provide a fresh looking squad to build with post-world cup.

Lewis
Hemraj
Hope
Hetmyer
Pooran
Powell
Rutherford
Holder
Cornwall
Paul
Joseph

Depth in bowling (7 capable bowlers), 2 wicket-keeping options, and batting resources down to no. 11. Obviously the batting will revolve around Hetmyer.

We have been grooming and grooming and grooming younger batsmen................ to what end?

And don't bother blaming spell check for leaving the S off Samuel. Or for using pass for past. No teacher going to accept that kind of excuse.

Lol if you say so but still Samuel must go a complete waste of space and holder showing what a party hack he is by that stupid statement

Even Bravo would have been a better pick than a 38 year old has been

Imagine we are saying that the selectors are not biased and they picked Marlon before Daren that could never be based on cricketing reasons
