Red Force stars and World Cup hopes
ONE of the major factors that has hurt domestic cricket throughout the West Indies compared to the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is the lack of established players participating.
Therefore, when Cricket West Indies announced in July that it was moving the Super50 from January 2019 to this October and had come to an agreement with the Bravo brothers, Kieron Pollard and Sunil Narine to play in tournament and push for a World Cup place strong anticipation grew that the competition could rival CPL for once, with all the best Windies players on show.
For the Red Force, objectively it seemed a forgone conclusion with World Cup incentive on the line that they would win the tournament, especially with the other teams depleted after CWI announced the ongoing India tour would happen alongside Super50 surprisingly.
That change, while its no excuse, certainly decreased the excitement for the tournament because the crowds in Trinidad and Barbados except for Red Forces defeat to Guyana at Brian Lara Academy, Tarouba never came out. While for some reason television coverage was only in Barbados.

However, current chairman of selectors Courtney Browne has often shown thats not the case.
Since he took over from Clive Lloyd in 2016, he has displayed that certain incumbents in the West Indies team (especially from his native Barbados), even if they are struggling, are likely to get an extended run, while the Bravos, Pollard, Narine and Ramdin are held to a different standard and seemingly have to do extraordinary things to get picked for the Windies again.
Based on the concluded Super 50
They don't deserve to be selected.

The Bravos, Ramdin and Pollard certainly failed to impress. None of them averaged more than 20 in the just concluded Super 50 tournament. Pooran definitely was consistent and showed some signs of maturity as a batsman.

I have reservations about Pooran, plus spinner Pierre.
Don't think they have what it takes to go to the next level.
Pooran is progressing but not as fast to face International
competitors.

well if it was me
First a stint at the Academy, then a few A team tours. But we still trying to get different results, doing it the same way!

We have talent at the U19 level
Then we show inconsistencies when playing FC.
We foolishly throw them to the wolves, without Academy
and a few tours.
Oh but we expect World type players, over two decades in
the wilderness and our head still to hard.

I have commented before about the idea that T20 performances translates to ODI performances. I have seen enough cricket to conclude that it definitely does not. Thus my reservation about Pierre.
However Pooran has been around a while now and he was definitely the best Red Force batsman in this edition of the Super 50. He scored 292 runs at an average of 48.66 and an outstanding strike rate of 120.66. Poorans strike rate 120.66 was the best by any West Indian batsman in this tournament.

Pooran with the years he has been playing should be
beating up on CWI FC bowlers consistently.
I see no player doing such, just brief spurts on occasions.
Thus my summation.

Alzhari Joseph is a prime example of talent blunted in our FC set up... He was super impressive in the U19 WC. I was expecting Alzhari to be a Rabada type talent but he has regressed from what I saw in his debut match... Forget about wickets, Now he cannot even control the run flow
There needs to be a serious look at what we are doing wrong at FC level. Devon was a former example. There is no way these 2 can be termed Hard head and Not committed which is the usual excuse given to brush aside the glaring gaps

I had quietly said that when we were not looking good in the 50 over matches just concluded.None should be picked for the West Indies team.

this is not fair statement, AlJo was hit by a serious injury that has contributed to his lack of development, that being said for years our FC set up was not producing the kind of players we need for internationals, Sarge is correct we are very competitive at the U19 level however this will not last as India is putting distance between them and everyone else at this level
examine the India model, they put lots of emphasis on youth cricket and their U19 graduates are test ready, this is where we need to be

Alzarri Joseph needs to ease himself back into the game with Regional & 'A' Team matches.
Selectors need to learn that you can't rush guys back from stress fractures & throw them into international cricket.
