Are our Women Cricketers more coachable?
In reply to powen001
Yes and I think their throwing is more deadly accurate. And I did not see ONE no-ball bowled whilst I was watching. They get it but the men are slow learners or more accurately, never seem to get it.
In reply to powen001 Didnt U know that Caribbean men have hard heads sah!?
In reply to powen001
They haven't had the problems the men team has had over
decades of disagreements with WICB/CWI.
They are hungry at the moment, just like when we had Clive
Lloyd picking his team.
The honeymoon will be over soon when they see how much the other Boards are paying their female teams.
Female T20 leagues are starting up.

Bang on... my assessment too ...and yes I saw the accuracy and the movement of feet and the seeking to do the basics with fielding and bowling line and length and to the field...
and you kind of making this too easy
In reply to sgtdjones
And you sir..
are expressing my fear..
but you see the negative responses will only be allowed to take place if WEST INDIES WOMEN WIN AGAIN AND THEN NEGOTIATIONS FOR THEIR APPEARANCES WORLD WIDE DONT REFLECT THEIR MARKETABILITY
Lets not make the same mistake that took place under the men..
in other words...lets the errors of the past be instructive in how we proceed.
Ultimately HOW the women are managed and lead will be the blatant blue print for how the men who naturally should improve as first step ...will also be treated.
Its a potential win /win but we now depend on LEADERSHIP to not miss the opportunities.
off my soap box now.

HAPPY MENS DAY!!!
In reply to powen001
These Characters couldn't seize an opportunity if it falls on them.
If any other entity I will agree with your notation lets not make the same mistake again.
But, we are dealing with a Draconian Board and dysfunctional Administration.
They are missing common sense and clueless about today's
players.
In the Caribbean we choose brawn over brain every time
in another thread someone ask how we can expect the men to be 'smart' if they have to drop out of school to learn their craft. That question alone tells you everything you need to know.
Apparently you don't need a brain to play cricket, you just need talent. From that starting point and a few then develop an 'I have arrived' ego encouraged by an inner circle who don't have a clue of what is required to have long term success as a professional, that what you have is a recipe for a coaches' nightmare.
So to answer your question, IMO yes they are more coachable. Everyone including coaches Springer, Logie and Estwick should be well pleased with how the ladies have played in this tournament. No egos, just playing for each other and enjoying the individual and team successes.

I completely agree...and yes... its scary how some of OUR OWN people think.
And the years of clashing egos and "fake freedom" the money being made gives some people has emboldened them to speak out against the piss poor treatment.
I tend to support the players for speaking out but frankly speaking...
The nonsense has to stop and this womens team I honestly believe is an excellent opportunity to show both leadership and men players alike how they can do things differently...and better.
And Yes I know...the Leaders will claim "excellence" for the women...
Yall recall how BAD it was last world cup?
WHile the women were winning..the men had to fight for basic amenities and respect...ultimately doing it during a silly impasse with Cameron et al.
It must stop.
In reply to powen001
It is easy to see these women, works at the game.
The fielding, the batting, the bowling and the catching.
Our male players goes into every series with the same problems, with very little improvement.
The way Hayley Matthews stroked the ball, was top class, one stroke over long off, keeping her shape, was a shot I will always remember.
Dottin's catch and the runout was worth the admission, and who can forget that catch on the boundary in the last match.
I cannot remember the player's name, was one of the series best.
These players makes me a fan of cricket again, our male players should try doing the same
In reply to openning
Must talking about Britney Cooper's catch or even Henry's. Either way, they were both brilliant and just shows how hungry the girls are and how much they are enjoying the game.
Conclusion: The women are making progress and the men have remained stagnant. Quite distressing from a male perspective.
However, let's be fair, the competition in the male circuit is much tougher mentally and physically, the women never did five straight days of test cricket.
In reply to powen001
The state of the women's game as far as money and professionalism is concerned, is what the men's game was when WI was a top team.
That's all, once the game evolves like the men's game did, we will again fail to keep up with the changes and sink to the bottom.
In reply to powen001
SO HOW MANY COACHES FROM OUTSIDE THE
REGION ARE COACHES IN OUR WOMEN
TEAM ???
In reply to powen001
One thing's for sure. There ain't all the politics and money chasers in the women's game as with men. So the player pool don't become diluted and so we continue to build on previous gains.
Now see the men through these lenses.

its a concern..
I say that it doesnt have to happen...IF the leadership is smart

Can you let me check?
I keep hearing the names of local boys in and out and all around...
but hold on...let me find a name ..
Staring us in the face you say?
In reply to InHindsight
But I have ...and as said..it is a concern that the women too could be ... "Tainted".
But lets flip it...
They are not all tainted..but the environment is...
Does this not therefore mean that the MAN Management and leadership too have to evolve...or as VOR would say REVOLVE to find ourselves again?
Look how Dottin is calling out the OZzies ahead of their match.
You can do that when you have a solid track record and your confidence is rightly placed.
Funny how that works, ent?
When the men say it....we tend to "hope they re right"...and others scoff cause the losing team gets more licks than victories...
what a contrast.
People at the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground are testimony to what winning can do the the diaspora...
check that..the MASSIVE CROWDS at the Cricket Ground..
People see that the women are hungry and eager and working as a team...its infectious and heart warming.
In reply to powen001
We already know they're not interested in cricket, nor are they smart
In reply to DIEHARD
i cant go that far...
They are far more distracted...from outside and inside...but they are not the authors of their own distractions per se.
Quite a few new lads have all the ingredients but yes..all of us have the same concerns... HOW LONG before the lure of IPL dollars comes and curtails their genuine development ?
My wish is that they get inspired by the women but also have the resilience to be hungry like the women are ... and re order their priorities.
Cricket First... and all else will follow.
In reply to powen001
I really think the premise by itself is flawed...
WI Women stand up to their peers on their capability just like how our U19 teams stand up to this peers. These are semi professional environments where we succeed.
The learning curve associated with a thorough professional set up is where we usually hit the road block... Womens game has not reached the stage to be compared with the Mens
In reply to powen001
They could be tainted who knows but they're still focused on WI cricket (maybe unlike the men it's the only option) and they are improving.
Should the management evolve? If you're referring to the current board I say yes. It are part and parcel to the debacle.
In reply to powen001
Yes, absolutely, after seeing them perform!
In reply to powen001
I say that it doesnt have to happen...IF the leadership is smart
I was not referring to the players there, but to the leadership required from preventing the women from going the same route.
But the womens game is just a reflection of what happens when there's more of a level playing field regarding resources, when passion is enough, when there are no distractions from just playing the game to win and representing your country is as good as it gets for your talent
In reply to DIEHARD
point taken.
thanks for the clarity

This appears fair...but I cannot ignore the fact that the same guys...in the middle of serious money disputes with the Board...and being treated less than professionally not to mention the CEO publicly being a poor representation of maturity.....
YET...the PULLED IT OFF to join the U-19s and the Women.
They are Professionals too...just like the other lads across the Globe...and I am not making any excuses for them...they have to know their WHY for walking on to that cricket field everyday.
They unified to show up Cameron et al before...so for the me the equation is simple... UNIFY towards a common purpose and voila.
