Recent being six months. SA has beaten two of the top three(pre zip gate) teams in the last year....one fresh from an ashes victory and one honestly believing it could win for the first time in SA. In India’s case, the series was done before the final test and Australia in the end were badly beaten. Yes SA lost to so but that is because of complete inability of SA to play spin. SL is not a good team. Any team that could get whitewashed at home twice in three years obviously has issues. They have two or three good players like Matthews and mendis but they’re not a good side

SA have been winning at home, haven't they? England went and beat SL in their own backyard..

What I’m saying is SL is a nothing side. Even at home they’re being whitewashed. SA lost because they’re batsmen can’t play spin to save their lives. An indictment of the SA batsmen than the SL team. England has lost heavily to both NZ and SA in the last three years, teams that SA have beaten home and away,

That's a hard one to assess...what exactly is neutral territory? A pitch that favours pace will be in South Africa's favour, while a pitch that favours spin goes India's way.

A plus for India and England is that both have done well away from home in their last series. We will see how South Africa do away from home.

We're in an era where all the major teams do well at home, but do poorly away from home. None of India, South Africa or England dominate the Test arena right now....

I was thinking somewhere like Kensington Oval which plays really well for 3.5 days and deteriorated significantly in the last two

Don't lose sight of the conditions. SA won in Eng and NZ in conditions that are conducive to pace and swing. England have conquered conditions in SL! It just shows the quality and how well rounded their attack is.

SA were good under Smith. The present team isn't quite up there yet.

Dude England lost to NZ in conditions almost identical to theirs this year, while Australia were being beaten in SA

That’s why I said it would be a good contest because up to recent evidence, India have not been able to beat SA at home and neither have SA recently, in part because of terrible pitches served up including the one at mohali which received international condemnation from the icc when AB was skipper
