Was murder linked to Facebook threat?

THE WIFE of slain Couva fish vendor Samuel Sookdeo said that six months ago she made a police report that she had been threatened.

Shivani Ramjit said she received the threats on her Facebook account in July, and told Sookdeo about them.

Ramjit said she took the information to the police and deactivated her Facebook account.

SECOND FOR THE YEAR: Samuel Sookdeo, 31, who was gunned down in Couva on Tuesday night.

“The threats said that one day I will end up in the creek like a dog. They called his (Sookdeo’s) name in it. I told him about it but he didn’t say anything. I told him don’t take any action and I went to the police”, she told the Express on Thursday.

On Tuesday night a man dressed in camouflage clothing gunned down Sookdeo at Ramjit’s parents’ home at Bachan Road, Union Village.

Sookdeo, 31, also of Union Village, was shot at least six times at close range.

Richards, who is not married and has no children, called her mother on December 14 in tears.

“She told her mother that she had an argument with a man and he had threatened her. She had known the man for a long time and they were having problems. But her mother did not think it was very serious,” a relative said.

Kidnapped man’s relatives get 3 more calls but no proof of life

The relatives of kidnap victim Sheldon Sukhdeo received three phone calls from kidnappers between last week and Monday but there was no further proof of life that the father of two is still alive.

Two weeks ago, on December 18, Sukhdeo’s mother Angela received a telephone call from kidnappers who demanded a $2 million ransom for his safe release.

During that call, Sukhdeo spoke with his mother and brother Ceron for close to four minutes and pleaded with them to pay the ransom.

Three days later kidnappers called again and repeated demands. There were two other calls but relatives said they were unable to speak with Sukhdeo.

The year 2008 recorded the highest murder rate with 550 homicides being committed.

Of the 516 murders in 2018, 430 of them remain unsolved. These statistics were disclosed by the T&T Police Service’s (TTPS) Crime and Problem Analysis (CAPA) Branch.

For the period January 1 to December 27, 2018, 13 spouses (male and female) were killed in domestic violence-related matters.

There were 13 children killed, six of which were classified as gang-related; three were domestic-violence related; one was drug-related; one child was killed during an altercation; two remain unclassified.

Forty-seven females were killed in 2018—this included three girls, 40 women, and four others whose ages are unknown.

With respect to law enforcement personnel, six of them were killed—two police officers, one soldier, and three prison officers.

Meanwhile, police said there were 179 gang-related murders.

In his New Year's message for 2019, Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith urged citizens to walk away from conflicts. “Your life is worth more than that,” he added.

“As the seconds count down to midnight be grateful that you’re here to see the dawn of a new year. To citizens, I appeal to you to be mindful of the need to be discipline minded, to curb tendencies to excess or ignore the most minor of infractions of the law.

“May 2019 bring further success in our endless battle for the safety and security of Trinidad and Tobago. A happy new year to all.”

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City could register the fewest number of homicides in several decades in 2018, as the city continues its long battle against violent crime.
As of Sunday, the city had recorded five fewer killings than the 292 investigated in 2017, according to preliminary police data provided to The Associated Press. That year's figure was itself the lowest in decades.

NY's population 8 million plus. I said last week on this forum that, statistically, one is about 5 times more likely to be killed, or rob in T&T than NYC.

Man shot during home invasion

A gunman opened fire on a La Romaine family on Wednesday night, shooting a labourer on both legs.

Investigators said around 7.45 pm the assailants, armed with a gun and a hammer, went to Hermitage Settlement Road, La Romaine, where they broke down the front door of a house. What is the root cause of the TT violence?

Any expert on TT...?

sgtdjones 2019-01-04 20:44:24

Notice all the self-claimed experts on T&T on this site missing.

When a government cannot provide a safe and secure environment for its citizens, its a failure. Citizens are living behind steel bars as criminals roam free.

Since T&T is a race-based political habitat, these fools will be elected again. Over the Xmas holidays filling up my vehicle at a gas station at cross crossings in San Fernando, three youths walking on the street accused a few of us at the station of supporting the UNC and tiefing money.

This is the mentality of Trini's, blame someone else, a failed state.

Disband the PNM
THE EDITOR: Why are people still writing about how to stop the doom and gloom without really getting at the heart of the problem?

The only sure way is to disband the PNM and not to allow its politicians to have any say in our future politics.

The record of the PNM speaks for itself. It started destroying this nation since independence with corruptible practices and by causing racial division within our politics, and it is still at it, running TT by trial and error.

There must be a way of getting rid of these useless politicians.

Isn't the government responsible for the safety of the population?

The buck stops with the government.

Would you encourage anarchy....with the formation of fathom squads and vigilantes?
