BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, (CMC) – Legendary former captain Clive Lloyd has lamented the snubbing of fellow West Indies icon, Desmond Haynes, for the post of men’s head coach, and says it is unfortunate that great former players continued to be ignored for the position.
Speaking in the wake of the controversial appointment of Englishman Richard Pybus, Lloyd said Cricket West Indies had tried foreign coaches over the years without much success, and needed to tap into the talents of homegrown stars.
“I heard about it (the appointment of Pybus) but I thought they were quite a few names put forward and I think somebody had said that Desmond was one of those names,” Lloyd told the popular cricket radio show, Mason and Guests, here Tuesday.
“What I would like to see in the future of our cricket that people like Gordon Greenidge, who has coached all over the place, and Desmond Haynes [given a chance]. These guys know about cricket and our cricketers and they are not getting a chance to show what talents they have, and I think it is about time we start to do something of that nature.”
He added: “We’ve tried a lot of overseas coaches and we’re still at number eight [in Tests] and number nine [in one-dayers]. “

We've also had Kanhai, Marshall, Roberts, Richards, Logie, Gibson and Simmons over the years and we're still number eight in Tests. It's not the personnel, it's the environment under which they were working that has to change.

The local coaches are snubed is because the venal board believes that foreign coaches gives them cover for their nefarious way and in addition, foreign coaches won't expose their nasty mores the way Phil did.
Which foreign coach- especially those from the former slave master country wants to pass up an opportunity to live in the glorious sunshine in "Little england" or the wannabee Antigua while raking in millions?
In reply to Bestian So true, even the great Malcolm Marshall was coach. It makes no difference who we put in charge, either some one from outside or from the Caribbean. Our players are not good enough. So let's face it. Our batsmen, play shots that a even a 11 year old would never play. Our bowlers continue to bowl too short,they can not put five balls in the same channel. The pitches are like a pig pen. Let's look at our coaches, only Guyana seems to be getting the best out of their players. The rest of the islands are a bunch of rubbish heap. Look at Cornwall, the guy is like a Sumo wrestler, and no one tells him that kind of weight carries risk to his life. And he should loose weight. But the powers to be let him continue to play. Jamaica has now become a laughing stock. Unless drastic action is taken of Caribbean cricket. Then we are doom to fail.

I can understand your frustration but what you have posted is inaccurate and unworkable. The Board can not ban Cornwall from playing and to say that no one tells him that kind of weight carries risk to his life is ridiculous.
