Oxford, CCC in Universities T20 final

OXFORD Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) University upset UWI by 26 runs yesterday to move into the final of the inaugural UWI World Universities T20 Cricket Tournament. The title match bowls off today from 3 pm at the Sir Frank Worrell Ground, St Augustine as the Englishmen take on the tournament favourites Combined Campuses and Colleges.

Batting first yesterday, Oxford MCC made 142 for seven in their allotted 20 overs, before skittling UWI for just 116. It was the visiting team's second win on the trot against the hosts, and they now aim to end their tour by exacting revenge on CCC, who thumped them in the tournament opener.

The ccc include players with lots of first class experience...eg Kyle Corbin is 28 and has played 58 matches.

The Oxford university students are indeed students with little or no experience and is not even a combined team.

Mismatch from the start like the upcoming test match

CCC double up

Led by their pair of pacers Michail Powell and Jarlanie Seales, the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC), collected their second straight limited overs title with victory over Oxford University in the final of the inaugural UWI World Universities T20 tournament.

Man-of-the-Match Powell (3-0-17-3), slinging the ball at pace in the style of former West Indies pacer Fidel Edwards, and Seales (4-0-28-2) took five wickets between them as the CCC successfully defended 135, limiting Oxford to 115 for eight, to win by 20 runs at the Sir Frank Worrell ground at UWI SPEC.

”Two brilliant finds” was how winning captain Kyle Corbin described the pair after Trinidadian Seales delivering some pacy short stuff, had ensured that the Oxford men did not get an improbable 24 in the last over. “The funny thing is that these two guys, they were reserves for CCC but they came and really showed up for this tournament. These two fast bowlers put their hands up and bowled brilliantly in this tournament,” Corbin added.

CCC graduate with T20 honours
Super50 champs win inaugural Universities tourney

COMBINED Campuses and Colleges (CCC) defeated Oxford Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) University for the second time in ten days yesterday, to win the inaugural UWI World Universities T20 Cricket Tournament at the Sir Frank Worrell Ground, St Augustine. Oxford MCC, who were blown away by six wickets in their tournament opener to CCC, again found their opponents too much of a challenge and succumbed to a 20-run defeat. The visitors did well to reach the final, after losing their first two matches in the five-team competition.

Sent in to bat by Oxford MCC, CCC posted a slightly competitive 135 for nine in 20 overs. However, Kyle Corbin's CCC squad turned in a disciplined bowling performance, restricting the Englishmen to 115 for eight to spoil any hopes of a fairytale ending for the visitors.
