Michelle McDonald interviews Sunil Ambris

Windwards Volcanoes are in second place in the West Indies 4-day championships after their 8 wicket victory over Barbados Pride in the last round. Apart from Devon Smith’s 199, the Volcanoes were helped by Sunil Ambris scoring the next highest score of 79.

Ambris, the right handed batsman from St Vincent & the Grenadines, was coming off an impressive 94 runs against the Englishmen during the CWI XI. Having played 1 ODI and 6 Tests for the West Indies, he is looking to score runs consistently and keep himself fit in case he is called up again.

Michelle McDonald caught up with Sunil Ambris in Jamaica earlier this year. Listen to part 1 of that audio interview on www.cricketinterviews.com

I have no problem with you thinking that Ambris is a better batsman than Hetmyer but I do not see why you have to denigrate the latter.

there is room for all our young bats, we could argued who is the best, but don't raise one above the other for insular reasons.

next week it would be Campbell

You know how its is: If they think an incumbent is in the way of their homeboy/favourites, some posters here will try their best to denigrate him, presumably, because they think that doing so will pave the way for their non-performing homeboys.

For example you notice the disparaging comments about Campbell, even before he had faced a ball in test cricket; and now the daggers are drawn for Hetymyer, even though both have actually performed better than their idols?

MAKE RUNS OR MAKE WAY!

"Intangibles" will not help to win games.

Michelle, can you find out whether CWI has a bowling machine and if not, why not.

I know Shiv has his own bowling machine. As far as I am concerned all 6 Regional cricket Boards should have a bowling machine for their players.

It sounds as though Ambris is suffering from lack of facilities but it is not clear exactly what he was referring to. It also sounds as though he is left to his own devices when it comes to attempting to improve his batting technique.

With the retainer/professional contracts being handed out you would hope that if the facilities aren't available, they soon will be.

That's what I say too but it is evident that some feel their favourites should be held to a different standard

I want ALL our Young promising batsmen
to succeed , and challenge each other
to do the best that they can for Our
Team , and themselves , so that the
Standard of Cricket in the Region gets
much more competitive .

In this Forum I am on record stating
that Sunil Ambris needs to not only buy a Bowling Machine , but also to use it Regularly .

The first and only time I met him , he was about 11 or 12 years , and I
was living in SVG ; both his Brother
Rommel Currency ,and his Father played for a Team that I am a foundation Member .

Cricket Fans in SVG , were of the
opinion that he would be better than
his brother Rommel Currency . His budding Test career was stymied when
one of his hands was broken .

I sincerely hope that he gets adjusted to batting wearing a forearm guard .

I am mindful of the fact that in
West Indies Cricket , Players from
the Windward Islands are at the lowest on the Selection TOTEM POLE .

They need to always remember this
freaking fact , and work twice as hard as Players from other Parts of the Region .

How much does a bowling machine cost? How much does it cost to maintain?

When it comes to ALL in the governance
of Cricket in the Region ,my Exasperation compels me say"Freaking".

In this Forum I once cited the fact
that there was an International Cricket Match at the Arnos Vale Stadium , Sunil Ambris . then 12
years old was at the Match , and was crestfallen because he did not get a Cap from the man who was throwing Cricket Caps to onlookers in the Main Stadium , I got one , and gave it to him .

Yes, but the manner of his dismissals was disturbing. The side in dire straights, and he was jumping down the track, and playing an ugly swipe across the line.

That can't be taught!

He needs a good season of first class cricket, where he can hopefully construct a few innings before even being considered for a test spot.

Just my view

Was that ALL the times he got dismissed? Or just once?
