The various local boards should have these to help our batsmen.

Do we have bowling machines in the Caribbean?
In reply to LBW375 good question. Well we know Shiv have one.
In reply to natty_forever
Yeah. Saw videos with the Shivster using it at home
Machine bowls everything, pace, rinsing, outlawing, leg break, off break....
In reply to LBW375… we should ask POINT. Seriously tho, some feel the players should show the initiative and get one. However, each regional set up should at least have one. I just starting to play FC cricket, doubt I can afford one.
In reply to natty_forever
It should be part of the regional setup. JCA and all cricket Associations should have at least one at their Training Camp.
In reply to LBW375
I know there's at least two here in St. Kitts.
One was recently donated to the LI camp
In reply to natty_forever
It has done very well for Samuels too.

Newdread, can you shed some light? We have any here?
In reply to Drapsey the machine helps technique, not your mind set.
I wonder what is the cost of that bowling machine?
Just having the bowling machine is only half the problem .... managing the workload and using it effectively is the other half.
Here is the little bowling machine maestro at work
CWI should really be using this guy to help our batsmen...
In reply to Kay
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!
best use is to correct a weakness!
I am sure there's at least 1 at Kensington oval
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
These machines cost around $3000 USD so I see no reason why our test batsmen can't each have their own machine.
In reply to Dukes
They and their fans would expect CWI to provide one for each of them.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Lawyers subscribe to Law Journals, Doctors subscribe to Medical Journals so Professional cricketers would be expected to do what is necessary to improve themselves in their Profession. When you have 22 year old guys driving $30,000 USD cars and refuse to spend $3000USD on a bowling machine that could improve their performances and hence increase their earnings then I have a problem.
I would expect at least one of the these machines to be available in each territory around the Caribbean, this era of retainers/professional contracts should make these types of equipment necessary to the players.
In reply to Dukes
Bullshit.
Lawyers earn into their 60s, also some entites pay these costs for the lawyers whose skills they rely on to be profitable
In reply to DIEHARD
That is why people like you do not understand what it takes to be successful. Some people are born great like Sobers and Lara while others like Shiv work damn hard and make wise choices. The man gets his own bowling machine and figures out how to utilize it in such a way that he becomes one of the most successful batsmen the WI have ever produced. You ever listen to people like Shane Warne describe what he did to become so good? I even heard don Bradman talk about how he used to practice as a boy.
Allyuh think yuh just show up and with natural talent you can be a world beater.
In reply to Dukes
totally agree.
In reply to Dukes
The bowling machine is little use without the dedication. Shiv would use the machine for 6 to 8 hours at a time in the hot sun. When asked why, he replied that 8 hours is a day's play. He trained himself to bat all day. How many mere mortals playing today have that kind of commitment?
In reply to Dukes
Work ethic is a different topic.
I'm talking about the expectation that each pro player should decide to find US$3K to buy a bowling machine
In reply to DIEHARD
dey could find it, even though they have to team up
In reply to methodic
That thought crossed my mind as i was writing my last post
It would only apply for those interested in excelling in the longer formats.
Do they exist?
I guess Chase and Paint maybe, and according to Lil B, him too.
How many English players have to buy their own machines?
Guess life just not fair
In reply to LBW375
Good thought.
It is amazing that around here you could find a pitching machine, batting cage at almost every corner, outdoors as well as indoors. Not only softball, but real baseball pitching different pitches from fastball to curve balls, etc.
In my heyday youth,40 ish, I could only manage the medium speed. It was for fun.Every so often, you would see a youth who looked very polished like young Rowe.
Invariably, with my penchant for asking questions, they would turn out to be minor leaguers who would come in to get their eyes in and refresh their muscle memory during off season.
Imagine what a batting machine could also do for youths in their formative years rather than growing up with no exposure or practice. No wonder the game is allegedly dying.
In reply to DIEHARD
You balk at spending $3,000 USD for a bowling machine that has the potential to increase your lifetime earnings significantly but feel that spending $30,000USD for a fancy car that starts to depreciate in value from day 1 is just reward for getting into the WI test team.
Something is wrong with that picture!!!!!

I learn a lot about people, by reading their post.
We all learn from our own life experience, I had to buy a piano and two violins for my children, when they were 3 years old.
And as a Suzuki dad, had to be involve in the lessons.
GCB got couple.. The main one is at the Chetram Singh indoor facility at LBI on the East Coast.. The contracted Jaguars players and the academy ones use it regularly..
Ah know during the rainy season the coaching staff does got dem fellas using it.. 45-60 mins per batsman.. Nothing close to Shiv 8 hours
In reply to openning… Some a them nuh have nuh daddy!
In reply to Dukes
Isn't a long format cricketer the one much more likely to benefit from a bowling machine?
I ask because our last great middle order test bats..Shiv..used one extensively..all our succefull T20 mercenaries..i assume dont use them, Chris Gayle doesnt even net.
So ..how much does a Roston Chase make, for him to spend US$3K on one, and how much will that increase his future earnings?
I am not knocking its importance..i'm just saying the Math not adding up to me, and its something CWI should be more interested in!!!
Listen the guys making money who can easily afford it, who spend money on US$30K cars..have already done the math, and could care less about batting like Shiv
In reply to natty_forever
Bradman

Thank you
I think we confusing work ethic, and the maths or Economics involved in buying a bowling machine

Bro, my three children is nothing to joke about, for this reason.
In 1982, my wife gave me a little girl, at that time, I told her, if we want other children, let us adopt.
Four years later as I waited for my brother and sister in law to come over, watched football and enjoy dinner, they never showed up, 8hour later, two cops came to my house, and I knew there was a problem.
Both my in-laws were killed coming to my home, and it was at that time, I was going to be a father of three, my daughter and her two cousins.
Though boys changed my life, and humble me.
Thats the reason for not liking the joke.
In reply to DIEHARD
what you are saying there makes no sense whatsoever and i mean that in the best possible way

In this Forum on several occasions I
have stated that Players need to make
strenuous efforts to By Bowling Machines .
Again in this Forum I have stated that
Sunil Ambris needed to not only do that , but to buy an arm guard so that
he gets accustomed to batting with a
an Arm Guard .
Sunil Ambris and ALL PLAYERS from the Windward Islands need to realize
that Players from the Windward Islands are not highly favored by
the West Indies Selectors .
That being the case , they have to
work twice as hard as Players from the other Islands in the Region to be selected on the West Indies Team.
Now if Ambris & other Windward Islands refuse to heed my advice ,
there aint anything else that I can
do .
I have no idea whether it is a
fact or a rumour , but I was told
that there is a Bowling Machine at
the Arnos Vale Stadium , in SVG .
Now if this is true the SVG Cricket
Association would know , and denying
Sunil Ambris the use of this Bowling Machine supports my belief that the
Governing body of the St. Vincent
Cricket Association need to demit
their Offices .
In reply to DIEHARD
I think the players make about $10,000USD per test match. The more test matches you have played, the more money you make.Any WI test batsman who has played 20 test matches should be able to afford a bowling machine.
In reply to Dukes
Plus the one's on retainers already got about 150k in the bank. I still see no excuse for any reasonable batsman not to get one, they outlast the player's career so the investment is solid
Better yet, hire a bowler who is dissed by Windies but better or as good as the selected one.
Shane, Warrican, Paul, the Invisible man, Rutherford et al just as examples. Could be others or all if it is in the off season including IPL.
Let them bowl to you in spells. It will be a win, win, win situation including improvement in the game of all parties.
In reply to goofballs
Shoots!
Just realize that is what you call a camp.
POINT will agree that more camps are required.

In reply to Dukes
If it's 10k a match...my argument is moot
In reply to DIEHARD
I think it's $5,000 per ODI & $2,500 per T/20 from when the 'white ball' contracts were announced.
Test fees where rumoured to be increased to $11,400 but I haven't see it confirmed.
In reply to WICFan
Then spare a thought for a Singh or Ambris or some other A team player, who would benefit the most, and has played a solitary Test or two..3K?
Imagine if Singh had spent his Test earnings on that machine..
In reply to DIEHARD
Who to say, if these guys had machines, they would not be further ahead?
Some parents are enrolling their children in private cricket academies, Franklyn Stephenson has one, where a number of children attends.
In the last couple years, these students have been to England and South Africa.
In reply to openning
You're very right
I hoping he did spend his money on one, look like he took Courtney Browne advice instead, and buy a library
In reply to DIEHARD
In all honesty, some fans still think cricket is the same as it was in the sixties.
I can assure you, every regional player, from the U19 level, their opponents, have video on them.
BTW, not every cricketer will be world class
In reply to sudden
Tell Diehard he talking shoilte, instead of using prose.
Kraigg Brathwaite has one at his home
In reply to Baje
Nice
In reply to Dukes
I have been saying the same. Cricket at a professional level is a job, buy your tools.
