What a beauty!
One of the things I love about the Grenada stadium is the ease of access. You can get a bus to town then walk a short distance.
Or if you drive, there are quite a lot of parking spaces within the ground.
The stands are easy to access, it is easy to move from one section to another, and lets not forget the food! (No comments from Vic, Black et al!!!).
Who's coming?

Look at my gorgeous Grenada stadium. You coming?
In reply to Yamfoot
I played there 30 years ago. Nice to see the ground was redeveloped. Possibly the largest playing surface in the WI.
In reply to Yamfoot
maybe. I took a couple pics last week

I watched Windward Island cricket at Queens Park in the sixties in the original structure. And Frank Worrell leading Wes Indies v Australia in a warmup match. This ground has sentimental value and the recent Stadium is a forward leap.
And No other ground has a unique end like D'beau..

Will any locals attend on a work day? Or is the government declaring a public holiday on both days to encourage locals to go to the 2 matches?
In reply to imusic
People would take day off. Plus retirees etc.
In reply to Yamfoot
Why don't they name it the Devon Smith Stadium?
Pollo would certainly come.

It is indeed beautiful and I hope, I really really hope the good people of Grenada and and perhaps other Windward Island citizens pack that beautiful stadium.
Never could the contest and context be better- the English are top dogs and we are seeking to whop them
Nothing would be worse than a half empty stadium.
would you guys say this was a good use of public recourses or the money could be better spent?
In reply to Drapsey
It is only 1 stand that will be named after him, just like Junior Murray and Rawl Lewis before him.

Good use of public resources. The british love Grenada. Only yesterday, I was in the supermarket and saw a former guest of "my" hotel. Said he came earlier that day, for 2 weeks, just for cricket.
His trolley was filling up, as he declared "I don't even know what I need". Make a list, I told him.
Anyway, the spinoffs are what Grenada wants. The fuller hotels, cars booked out, taxi drivers taken, restaurants etc. And of course the Value Added Tax the government will get from the expenditure.
In reply to Yamfoot I too love Grenada!

my concern is , do these activities occur often enough to justify the capital outlay and the maintenance cost of these facilities?
In reply to Yamfoot
Should be in Grenada next year for the Caribbean utilities Easter Festival.
But like many here, i do hope that the stadium is filled with locals and the Poms get a good lashing

In reply to camos .. used for other things than cricket I hope.

I guess in a place like Grenada it is the biggest mass meeting spot.

I would suspect...because I obviously have not been exposed to any detailed financial analysis..that from a purely quantitative perspective, the answer would be a big FAT NO. But that has never stopped our current leadership anyway.
That said...the benefits of good sporting facilities may be quite difficult to quantify because of the more qualitative social upsides like..impact on upcoming sports persons...attraction of this shiny new trinket may encourage a youth to pick up a bat instead of a crack pipe....you never know. It is PART of an overall strategy to encourage sports development which comes with a whole range of possibilities.
A quite PEG-like response you may say...but ah suh it go sometimes.

I've been to that a few times.

Unfortunately...not in Grenada right now.

Man you missing out.
We hosting in St. Kitts this year.
Heard the contingent from Grenada gonna be small this year, seems liek they had some club problems there.
But we'll enjoy for all who's missing.
Never been to Grenada so hoping to be there next year.
Hola...when they start treating Guyana and Trinidad with respect and start giving equal games then it may be considered...until then we dont care.
Adios

It does look beautiful indeed. The challenge on a stadium 'paying for itself' in a small jurisdiction is a challenge for us all. I don't know what the Grenada powers that be have planned but maybe construct adjacent facilities like fitness centres or the like and sell memberships to locals or groups to use them and the proceeds can help?
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy… Sabina is now allowing the rugby team to use the space and had already been allowing school boy football.

In Grenada there is the Gym for locals and conferences and workshops are hosted in the conference rooms. Thats it more or less
