Taxi driver escapes trunk after abduction

In what was described as reminiscent of a scene from a movie, after he was kidnapped and bundled into the trunk of his own vehicle, 31-year-old Hadeed Khan managed to free himself while at a traffic light in San Juan.

According to police, around 7.55 p.m. on Monday, Khan was working his Nissan B15, valued at $31,000, for hire, when two men hired him to take them to Thomas Street, Saddle Road, San Juan.

Upon arrival, the two men announced a robbery, with one of the men holding a weapon.

They tied Khan’s hands together with a clothes hanger and bundled him in the trunk.

However, while in transit, Khan was able to untie himself and open the trunk. He ran a short distance away and raised an alarm.

The vehicle then sped away from the scene.

Thief goes to extraordinary lengths to steal Vodka

A MAN who brandished a knife at the owner of a car as he attempted to steal a bottle of alcohol from the vehicle has been jailed for 18 months with hard labour.

Landscaper Kendell Joseph was charged with larceny of a bottle of vodka, possession of a knife to wound and being found in enclosed premises with the unlawful purpose to steal.

Joseph, 35 of Ste Madeleine, said he was guilty of the three offences as he appeared before San Fernando magistrate Alicia Chankar.

Police prosecutor Cleyon Seedan said it was at 8.30 a.m. on Thursday that Shazard Mohammed was at Henry Street, San Fernando with his car parked on the compound of the enclosed premises. He was in the porch of the house when he saw Joseph jump the wall and enter his vehicle. Mohammed ran downstairs to his car and opened the front door of the vehicle to find Joseph armed with a knife and holding a $264 bottle of vodka which he found in the back seat.

The victim told Joseph to come out of his car and in doing so, Joseph slipped and fell on the ground, hitting his head. Mohammed contacted the police and constable Groom laid the three charges against Joseph.

The landscaper appeared before the court with a bandage to the right side of his head.

Carenage gangland
Gunmen shoot at each other…

ONGOING war in Carenage which in the past year resulted in at least five men being killed, triggered a massive joint police and Defence Force exercise yesterday.

The lawmen swarmed Upper Haig Street and Abbe Poujade Street looking for gunmen, who residents said, began shooting indiscriminately for over three minutes before police arrived. Both streets intersect at a point called Fresco Junction. The rapid gunfire forced regiment, coast guard and various units of the police service to descend on Carenage arresting two, searching several homes, but recovering no weapons. One of the homes searched according to residents, belonged to a member of the Coast Guard who was not at home at the time.

The uncle of one of the men arrested, who identified himself only as Jason, told the media that the two of them were at home listening to music when his nephew stopped playing and alerted him to the gunshots. Jason had earlier pointed out three bullet holes in his home, one in his front door and two on the roof. After the shooting police came to his house and arrested his nephew.

43 SEX CHARGES
Chinese man, Venezuelan woman in court

SPECIAL arrangements were made at two prisons last night to accept a couple, who at 6.45 pm, left the Port of Spain Magistrates’ court after facing 43 charges stemming from what police have dubbed the “sex ring case.”

The couple, according to police, are Solieht Torres, 23, of Venezuela and her Chinese-born, Guyanese raised boyfriend Jinfu Zhu, appeared before magistrate Marissa Gomez. Zhu, who speaks Mandarin, had the charges translated to him by Carol Williams, while Torres relied on Joanna Boca, to translate what was said to Spanish.

Zhu was taken to the Port of Spain Prison while Torres was taken to the Women’s Prison at Golden Grove, Arouca. The charges all stem from a two-day long police raid on February 5 and 6, in connection with the discovery of 19 Venezuelans – three teenage girls and 16 women, between the ages of 15 and 19. The Venezuelans were rescued from several locations including a house at 61, Western Circle, Westmoorings.

This house is owned by Edward Aboud and was leased to Zhu for over $20,000 monthly, police said. Senior police sources said they are still searching for a man believed to be in Suriname in relation to the alleged prostitution ring as he is believed to be the mastermind.

at this rate we gonna have much less than 30 murders this month, just as I predicted..

So far 10 in 16 days..0 in 3 days (again) and carnival long gone.. ...now that's a positive trend in a country with sooooo many guns and sooooo many idiots..

Criminals are being caught during and right after the act due to sub 5 min response times across the board, even in South, the word is spreading, strategies and new methods are working..

The police service is being sanitized..

Everything I said is being proven already, while all fools can do is highlight the next and sadly inevitable murder ..

There are going to be many more murders reported here, but this month's toll is going to be one of the lowest in recent times, and this year's toll is going to be waay less than last year..

Progress..

Take a bump dey while you hope for a couple triples and doubles to bring up the rate, tusty for Trini blood....

Officer’s gun stolen during house party

Police are investigating the alleged theft of a policeman's service pistol at his Sangre Grande home on Friday night.

According to reports, Insp Christopher Fuentes was liming with other police officers and a woman at his Ajim Baksh Street, Sangre Grande, home at around 9 pm.

Fuentes allegedly left his friends downstairs and went to bed at around 10.30 pm, taking his wallet, his police-issued Sig Sauer pistol and 14 rounds of .9 mm ammunition with him.

He told police he put the items under his pillow, but awoke around 11 pm to find his weapon, ammunition and wallet missing.

Fuentes then called Sangre Grande police and police officers of the CID came to his home where they asked for a statement.

Newsday was told investigators were unable to contact the police officers with whom Fuentes was liming.

More as this becomes available.

Gary: Cops outnumber criminals

POLICE officers outnumber criminals in Trinidad and Tobago and will continue to infiltrate and put an end to any turf war in any part of the country, says Police Commissioner Gary Griffith.

The commissioner said his officers are ready and up to the task at hand to ensure the criminal element does not, in any way, affect the freedom of movement and rights of law-abiding citizens.

“The Police Service is not afraid of anything. We are very aware of situations and we are giving advice to law-abiding citizens that when these punks, these creeps, decide to feel that they can just fire indiscriminately at other gang members, and again, this is where you have those unfortunate words of collateral damage, where law-abiding citizens could actually be hit,” said Griffith.

He was speaking during an interview on radio station i95.5 FM yesterday regarding the ongoing gang war between members of the Rasta City and Muslim gangs in Carenage over the past few days that saw a series of shooting incidents that has left some men injured.

Witness to double murder silenced by killers

A 50-YEAR-OLD man who was said to have been a witness to a double murder was himself gunned down at his home on Saturday night.

The dead man has since been identified as Rudoulph Poon, of Pinewood Avenue, Carapo.

He was murdered by two armed men who went to the area with the sole intention of taking his life to silence him from giving information to police on the crime he was said to have witnessed.

After carrying out the act, the gunmen fled the scene, all the while shooting several rounds into the air to prevent others who live in the area from attacking them in return, said one resident.

Police said the incident took place around 10.30 p.m.

However, police said residents did not at first know the gunmen had entered Poon’s home and shot him dead.
