I asked this because I see some people on here have finally had it with cold temperatures and are thinking of migrating to warmer climates.

Anyone here actually prefer colder climates?
In reply to black
If I could find some place where it's perpetually mid to upper 70s all year round, I'd be all in. Bermuda's not bad but the summers are brutal with the humidity factor and we have dipped into the 50s at times. #FirstWorldProblems

All aspects [extremes] considered, If I had to choose bet. WINTER & SUMMER, it would be SUMMER. However, thankfully, it's never always WINTER here in NY and actually I do love the CHANGE in climates.
SPRING: Trees springing back to life; flowers blooming etc and the temps in low 70's and sunny is almost perfect.
SUMMER: Don't have to bundle up, therefore, not thinking twice to leave the house in whatever little you have on. Can enjoy the outdoors almost always. Only when I'm in the pool or beach I want the temps in 90's..... but even then, it's too hot.
AUTUMN: Not dissimilar to Spring-like temps, but the opposite to life blooming, is equally rewarding in the fall-foliage & scenic landscape.
WINTER: Contrary to popular opinion, I do love the snow, even when I have to shovel. I'm up at 6 am shoveling. I see it as exercise (as of now). Been doing it for 22 years. I also would shovel my neighbor's and then my parents' house from time to time. I most like looking at snow fall and then doing some doughnuts in the parking lot. Anyway, the bitter COLD is what I dislike. And because of that... I do not like [care for] winter, as a whole. I do plan to move south as I edge closer to retirement.
After all, I can't play golf, go boating/fishing, gardening, lay in my hammock outside sipping a beer, go swimming at the beach, etc, here in NY year-round.

What the temperature like in Texas???
In reply to RemainsUnknown
What I like about Texas is, in the winter it's cold in the morning but warms up by 11am. Occasionally, it will stay cold all day. The summer here is brutal though.

In the 60s.

If I could afford to live in my car and have family nearby, San Francisco would be my ideal place.
Otherwise I am fine where I am.
Exploring Florida to relocate to but don't know if I can live without the variations of the seasons.
Well, they have rain/tropical storm and heat to burn in.
Opps, hurricanes and floods too!

Thought I saw 30s in Houston and San Antonio a few days ago!
In reply to StumpCam
I am in Central Texas (close to Austin). It was in the mid 30s this morning, right now it's moving towards the 70s.
I stand corrected. It's 58 degrees here right now.
In reply to black
Indeed!!!!
Hola....I was born in Guyana...lived in England for a couple of years and ran from there because I could not handle the damp cold..
I came to Canada been here a long long time and love the seasons..
I enjoy the cold..I embrace it..It never bothers me...that is not to say that maybe down the road who knows???
With cold there are no mosquitos, sandflies, malaria blah blah blah..
Put me down..I love the cold and hopefully for a bit longer.

I have some White friends who go winter camping. That's right. When it's -20 degrees Celsius outside and 10 feet of snow on the ground these bannas find it ideal weather to head off into the wilderness, set up camp, hunt rabbit, and pee and poo in snow and ice for 7 days.
I like to go winter camping here.

San Diego..the best weather destination!!
In reply to SnoopDog
Where is that? Bora Bora?

I grew-up in the snowbelt region and I was responsible to clear the driveway. The snow banks on both sides of the driveway would be taller than me after a heavy snowfall. I loved winters when I was younger, not so much now.
The cold is a good reason to stay indoors and snuggle up with someone.

I too have a buddy [for the sake of this convo, white, as well] who goes ice-fishing on some [frozen] lake up in Maine every year.
After several years, I heard this chap bought several acres of land out there with a cabin by the lake.... I might check him in the summer, not winter.
In reply to black
Which is an awesome spot, btw. I can personally attest to the beaches there.
In reply to RemainsUnknown
May I suggest this method of checking him out in the winter?
In reply to maj
Youll be closer to your Illegal border crossing friends!

In reply to RemainsUnknown

In reply to maj
San Diego is one of favorite places! Been there numerous times for work and play! I have actually driven across the border into Mexico at different locations.
In reply to StumpCam
yep.
In reply to maj the vaj
I know you're too dumb and stupid to care but the thing about the Mexicans is that they were there before White people. Hence why the name is "San Diego" instead of "Jonestown".
In reply to SnoopDog
Gentrification.
In reply to maj
As far as the mainland US goes, I agree. I remember experiencing very cold weather one summer day near San Diego, however, right on the US-Mexico border.
In general I strongly dislike the cold, but have had to put up with it for 2 extended periods in life. Nothing beats the warm Caribbean.
In reply to Norm
I don't mind the cold, if it's not below zero or doesn't feel below zero.
I once suffered from frostbite, wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. The pain was excruciating when my fingers started to defrost.

San Diego's on my Places to Visit list, I've heard great things about the place with regard to temperatures and attractions.
If ever I have to leave England the country for me would be New Zealand, not that nasty heat and not too cold in their so called Winter.
In reply to granite
You plan on getting some sheep?
In reply to granite
New Zealand seems to be that kind of place that offers a bit of everything in one (relatively small) package. That and sheep by the truckload.

Weather and geographical diversity is great in Bolivia, but they too are in the ring of fire.
Great place for retirement - Safe, low cost of living and perfect weather.
I used to like the Cold, that is until this Winter. I like Winter, even when there is lots of snow. I'd dress up warmly and go for long 1-2hr. walks, even if it's in the minus 20s. But this winter is different, Climate Change, I guess. The temperature is all over the place, with great variations within a week, often within a day and jumping from freezing to -20s in a matter of hours. The result is lots of ice on the road and sidewalks.
My driveway is like a hockey ice rink; worst, it slopes down to the road. I can't buy enough salt to deice it. New Year's Eve, I slipped stepping out of my garage and wrecked my left rotator cuff. Pain galore, especially at night. I'll be making my second winter get away next week. I need some hot sun on my back and a warmer breeze in my face.
If this kind of Winter is what Climate Change is about and becomes the new normal, I'd say, To Hell with Winter.

The ghost of ProWI is haunting you.

Damn, I would like to meet this ProWI. Ask him/her to get off my back.
I hate the rainy cold English weather.
I miss the Caribbean beaches, where the water is not icy cold.
In reply to black
Redduppy and openning prefer cold weather climates
50s at night and 60-70s during the day would be perfection

For a few weeks of the year with a nice snow fall and Im happy as ever. .i get on the plane and head back home to sunny Barbados when I have had my fill.
I love winter. ..in small doses lol.
In reply to Casper
So, you are a car? Left hand drive.
In reply to powen001
Wher do you go? The snow must not get to fence level
I lived in London for 4 years. Absolutely hated the winter season there. NY is not as bad but there are days when the temperature has me thinking it's deja Vu all over again.
There is a reason why the NFL held the SB quite regularly in San Diego. Alas with no longer having an NFL franchise we may no longer see a SB in that City for some time to come.
If I had a choice and my employer would allow it, I would live in the North East USA from April-October and relocate to a tropical climate from November-March
