KINGSTON, Jamaica, (CMC) – After securing the Cricket West Indies (CWI) top job in a stunning result here Sunday, new president Ricky Skerritt has targeted the rejuvenation of the high performance centre, governance reform and finding a permanent West Indies coach, as three of the main items on his immediate agenda.

However, the former St Kitts and Nevis government minister has urged patience from stakeholders as he prepares to implement his 10-point Cricket First Plan, which formed the basis of his election campaign over the last month.

The 62-year-old was speaking shortly after he and running mate, Dr Kishore Shallow, unseated Jamaican Whycliffe ‘Dave’ Cameron and vice-president, Emmanuel Nathan, by 8-4 margins, in a highly anticipated annual general meeting at the Jamaica Pegasus.
“We are going to have to ask for patience but there is some basis in some of those 10 points that is already happening but most of it needs significant improvements, significant injections and in the case of the HPC for instance that is going to be the one that is most costly,” Skerritt shared.

The former West Indies team manager had made reviving the HPC one of the bedrocks of his campaign, after the Cameron-led CWI pulled the plug in the institution in 2017.
Skerritt, who gained widespread support from stakeholders in his election bid, said CWI would also be aiming to make possible implementations from the Patterson Report.
“We had actually begun to do that under the leadership of Don Wehby and myself and two other independent directors back in 2016 and 2017,” Skerritt explained.

WI team members should compete with other players for their respective positions in order to prevent complacency and to improve overall individual performances. I think a strong A Team and B Team, along with the HPC team should be selected, then practice matches scheduled among the various teams, prior to any selection of a final squad. Competition is healthy for our cricket development, a player will not feel like he is an automatic pick and thus is conducive to better performance by players, if they are mindful of the fact that at least 2 other players are competing for their position on the team.

Don't wait until your first term is about to expire to start campaigning for a second.

I can recall Hunte (/Hilaire team) asking us to wait a few more years for their policies to mature and yield the stated objectives. It was too late then.

I am willing to give Mr. Skerritt &
Mr Shallow 6 months to formulate their
Plans , and inform the People in the
Region & those of US who live in the
Diaspora .

I then expect to hear detailed Plans
regarding the WICBC . WE need to be
apprised of the infamous WEHBY REPORT ,if indeed it does exist .

You are a patient man. I am expecting more: Its not like they have to begin from scratch, deciding on the right thing to do is easy, start with a time-table for dismantling and design the new model.

Then invite stakeholders and experts to comments with multiple public hearing. Based on stakeholder feedback, tweak plan, then implement

PS: I expect the new model will be totally different from the existing plantation model. A new model designed similar to public-private structure with an independent board comprising regional directors form diverse back-ground and two global business leaders.

Yes, POINT is a patient man, albeit conveniently.

Now that the President of the WICB (I hope he does revert to the old name) is from his neck of the woods, he can patiently wait a good 6 months.

Don't mind me say Bro, but I am seeing you are travelling a dangerous road along insularity and I believe you to be much better than that. I don't why you continue to see insularity where there is none. Cameron was the most unfit person ever to lead our cricket and it is why we wanted his sorry arse kicked out.

As for poster Point, there is nothing in his opinion to suggest he is even remotely insular but I am sure he doesn't need me to defend him, he is quite cable on his own
