WC SQUAD- POLLY, BIG BRAVO, SUNIL BACK?

Emir 2019-04-12 13:34:10

Folks, it is looking "promising" The new selectors are "torking" to our IPL players.

Imagine a 16 man squad that includes:

Gayle, Simmons, Lewis, Polly, Big Bravo, DreRuss, Narine along with our upcoming young stars like Hety, Hope and Oshane and then our experienced players like Roach, AlJoe, Jason et all.

We just saw how AlJoe was on-field coached by Polly in that record breaking figures a few days ago- the international panel of commies discussed how Polly was talking to AlJoe after every ball.

It demonstrated how our stars can so easily gelled and find their niche with the young turks and how much the youngsters can learn from them.

WI CAN WIN THIS WC.

Simmons has done nothing to be selected boss. Big Bravo cannot make the team anymore as Holder, Polly, and Russ are all ahead of him. Only two all rounders will play in the final 11 with one backup on the bench.. that should be Polly

Bravo would play ahead of Polly for me, cos my three allrounders are at 7-9, one being a "bowling" allrounder..Bravo..but i dont know if he's in the form he was before dropped so is not really in the reckoning.

Polly can only play at 6 for my team composition...and nobody has really cemented that spot...nobody right now is a certainty..or can fell slighted re that #6, Polly definitely does not have a strong case, and if selected, certainly not an uncontroversial choice

My XI

Gayle
Lewis
Shai
Hetmyer
Lil B
ANYBODY/ Powell/ Chase/ Pollard
Russel
Holder
ANYBODY Paul/ Allen/ Big B/ Carlos
Cotterel
Aljo

Roach is back up for the two seamers named

For the WC, you pick a squad of 15, don't focus on the final 11 yet. Different conditions, player's confidence on match day, team dynamics etc will decide the final 11 for each match.

You need wicket taking options in ODI cricket. Holder and another all rounder in Russell will play at 6 and 7. 8 to 11 will be out and out bowlers. Remember Russell is a 4 to 5 over bowler. Polly will be backup to Russell in the squad and should play when Russell is Rested since he has injury concerns. I would take all three in the squad. Here is my 11 in batting order and squad

1. Gayle
2. Lewis
3. Hope
4. Darren Bravo
5. Hetty
6 Holder
7. Russell
8. Narine
9. Roach
10. Joseph
11. Cotterell

12. Pooran
13. Pollard
14. Kary Pierre
15. Paul/Thomas

One spare batsman who is also the spare keeper, spare all rounder, extra spinner who will play depending on conditions especially when the pitches start getting tired later in the tournament, and a backup quick bowling option.

Have any of you taken a look at the compositon of the Indias and Englands and the other teams doing well in ODI cricket?

They dont play four out and out bowlers!

Have y'all looked at the reason WI has a shitty record?

Its failure to make runs, how the hell is starting your tail at 6...going to help us make more runs?

Please, lets look at the reality of the modern game, Holder can think of batting 6 in Tests, but its been ages since he has a good run with the bat in ODIS...Russel at 7..but Holder is doing really poorly at 6 in ODIS

India plays two spinners and three quicks. Sometimes they will use Hardik at 7 and leave out one quick to give one extra batting option, but the bowlers still start after 7. We have Russell at 7. WHo is better Russell or Hardik s a batsman?

This is the last england team that played against us. Woakes bats at 8 and is an out and out bowler. Now their bowlers can bat but they are not bits and pieces bowlers. We have Narine at 8 who can actually bat. I need my best bowlers in positions 8 to 11, if they can bat I am very happy but we must not compromise wicket taking.

England 1 Alex Hales, 2 Jonny Bairstow, 3 Joe Root, 4 Eoin Morgan (capt), 5 Ben Stokes, 6 Jos Buttler (wk), 7 Moeen Ali, 8 Chris Woakes, 9 Tom Curran, 10 Adil Rashid, 11 Mark Wood

DIEHARD 2019-04-12 15:05:42

Damn..History says Holder is a better # 6 than Powell...29 avg versus 20..but in the last 12 months, Holder's average drops to 18..Powell goes to 22..Powell is in better form at 6 lol

But both in poor form

Didnt that team composition backfire for England though? confused

Its not the "winning" composition...is it?

I'm all for Russel at 7..but i think we need a proper batsman at 6...but that right now is a spot we struggling to fill..i think Holder should be batting 8 or 9, not as high as 6.

jballer84 2019-04-12 15:10:33

Holder is a slow thinker and therefore not suited to be a late order batter in limited overs cricket. He would actually be better is a batting role at 4 or 5 where he just comes in and bat and not have to think about when to accelerate vs when to play normal. Below is the last Indian team that played new Zealand. In this team Shankar is the all rounder at 7, similar to our Russell. kuldeep at 8 is not better than Narine, the top order is there to make runs.

ndia: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli(capt), MS Dhoni (wk), Kedar Jadhav, Ambati Rayudu, Vijay Shankar, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami

No, this has been their combination for years. You will by your top 4 getting runs not having a long batting order, the top 4 must score heavy. England drew the series because WI played well. Teams like 6 bowling options, 5 out and out bowlers and 5 over guy. Our five over guy is Russell. We are also lucky that Holder is a decent batsman. If we play Holder at 8 and include Pooran at 6, suddenly no one in the top 6 bowls and we will end up with 5 bowlers w no where to turn if one gets smashed. WHo is gone bowl, Gayle?

DIEHARD 2019-04-12 15:46:18

In reply to jballer84

That's why for me, that number 6 slot is the issue, we need a number 6 batter who can bowl.

And yes I'd need Gayle to give 4 overs if needed

jballer84 2019-04-12 15:56:36

In reply to DIEHARD

A number 6 batter who can bowl would be fine if we did not have Russell who can only bowl 4 or 5 overs. Jason Holder may also not be a 10 over guy in 50 over cricket. He is terrible at the death. Who would that number 6 be? Who is this reliable number 6 who can bowl?

DIEHARD 2019-04-12 16:16:58

In reply to jballer84

I'd invest in Powell..Chase as the back up...

DIEHARD 2019-04-12 16:21:41

In reply to jballer84

Heck...if Russel can control this aggression enough to bat 10 overs...he is enough for number 6..problem solved i could live with Holder at 7 followed by Paul or Allen.

jballer84 2019-04-12 16:21:44

In reply to DIEHARD

Over Pollard? Powell is far too clueless against spin for me. He sits out

jballer84 2019-04-12 16:23:01

In reply to DIEHARD

Allen? He is a defensive bowler. Why are you only thinking of lower order batting and compromising the bowling? Cricket has changed. You must get guys out or they will hurt you

DIEHARD 2019-04-12 16:54:33

In reply to jballer84

Pollard has played waaaaaay too many innings..with too little production in ODIS..100 ODIS with a 25 average?

I'm going with the youngster averaging 24 after 34.

As i said..none has claimed that position...and..Pollard may have a slightly stronger argument because of his experience tbh

DIEHARD 2019-04-12 16:56:15

Allen? He is a defensive bowler.

They does cause wickets to fall at the other end lol

You want somebody to keep things quiet in the middle overs..i believe he has done that well in his few games
