Retired Bravo among senior players poised for WI recall
ST JOHN'S, Antigua (CMC) Cricket West Indies' (CWI) new selection panel says it has reached out to several previously marginalised senior players, including retired all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, and is hoping to have them available for future selection.
This comes as CWI looks to revamp its selection policy, with the aim of keeping the process free of outside interference and ultimately selecting the strongest squads possible for international assignments.
Speaking at a media conference here this week, newly appointed interim chairman of selectors Robert Haynes said contact had already been made with the likes of Bravo and Pollard, with the players indicating their desire to represent the Caribbean side.
Between the coach (Floyd Reifer) and I, we've been talking to a lot of players and for sure...we've been in contact with these players and we want them to understand that once they're available, we'll be thinking about them, Haynes said.

Excellent move.
The best players must always be considered.
Simmons should be considered too. He looked good in the recent 4 day tournament. Many of the innings he scored good runs were like limited overs innings.

Dwayne Smith retired because of Brown...will he lose some weight and return to the T20?

A caller to a show asked, "What has Pollard and DJ Bravo done to deserve a recall? I wouldn't even let them through a window much less to open a door for them."
That's some funny stuff. I would not open a window for Pollard, but I would for Big Bravo. There were four players dropped from the WI ODI team after the India pull out--the two Bravos, Pollard and Sammy. Big Bravo and Sammy were the only two players that have not played for the WI since the India debacle. Those are the players who were blacklisted, not Pollard and Lil Bravo who have played for WI since the pull out.

Considered yes, but who would you drop for Simmons?

How could they have done anything when the door was shut on them.
Before he retired Bravo literally begged to play...and was repeatedly overlooked

As far as I know...a squad hasn't been picked.
But off my head I would say Simmons and Daren Bravo would be competing for a spot.
Hope and Hety should be there

I am always of the view that best players should be considered but then again It might be too late for the WC. There is not enough time for the team to come togather and gel.
If all these players were pulled in for the Ireland series (Which still would be very few matches) there could be some traction. But just adding players who were not part of the set up for years into the team might backfire. A cautious path needs to be taken

These seniors have all played together in the past....they have all played under J Ho in the past....they have played all over the world in different leagues...they are professionals and surely can adapt easily.
The few newbies can surely learn from them

Ok I thought you were thinking that Simmons should be competing for an opening spot or he should be picked ahead of Marlon. I would pick Darren Bravo ahead of Simmons though

That was the era of bickering and dictatorship
WIPA WICB bickering
WICB mafia dictatorship...Hunte , Hillaire, Cameron
PLayers were all destabilized...in this environment
These same players won two T20 WC based on their IPL exposure
These same players excel all over the world in other environment

Assuming Russel and Holder bat 7 and 8.
You have an opening in the middle order
3 Hope
4 Hetmyer
5 Lil B
Who has really made that other spot theirs..check the stats..Powell? Samuels? Ambris? Carter? Chase? Dowrich? Pooran?
Its as much theirs as it could be Pollard or Simmons.
9-11 is also up for debate, what with Aljo (now injured) Roach, Cotterel, Thompson, Allen, Paul, Nurse (grudgingly listed by me), Gabriel...DJ Bravo could also be added to that list and his batting gives him an edge.

Yeah as poor as it is, he is still going to be in that middle order..for the exact same reason Pollard and Simmon's name even enter the debate, still better than most!!
Lack of better candidates, and he'll be there based on his Test record, last years CPL record, and the fact that Samuels in 20 matches in the last 24 months has averaged 22 with a SR of 67.

Well said, case in point: look hoe Mumbai Indians used Polly to guide young AlJoe in th field and how he kept talking to the young man after every ball- so said the international panel of commies, they were in high praise for Polly

Thinking about them does not equate to any of them being poised for World Cup selection

This is true, but none can be excluded, there are at least 2 spots that are wide open.

Lip service counts for nothing, especially from politicians and wishy washy administrators whose only job in life is to try please everybody (impossible) but talk is cheap.
The best players should always end up representing you in professional endeavours, not friendly fete matches or goodwill missions.
How you select the best? Look at global performances, strength of opposition, experience, maturity, etc(Oops! I am giving away the answer that most nationalists don't like).
If you choose just on donkeycity cricket, Permaul would be captain, Devon Smith manager, Cornwall fielding and bowling coach!!

… however, this should not be in a vacuum, one must at least be playing competitive cricket somewhere, as I have advocated for, for years.
And I asked on another thread, should T20 form be used to select an ODI team?
Note: especially if their ODI record is nothing to talk about.

We must always play with our best available players whether they are experienced or developing players. We cannot exclude any player due to non-cricketing reasons or reasons not due to performance and that is the mantra of this new Skerritt led administration, which I entirely support. Many players have been unfairly abused by the Cammy administration, time to make the many wrongs right in WI cricket. Such a pity that its too late for players like The Shiv, Sarwan and the Australian-Jamaican, and many other abused players.

This is tricky.
What happens if Campbell, Ambris, Chase, Nurse and Carter performs exceptionally well in the matches against Ireland and Bangladesh?
Cannot see the selectors leaving them out of the world cup squad if that happens.

When is the deadline for teams to submit their World Cup squads?
Never mind.....I googled and found it
The last date for announcing the World Cup squads is April 23
The first match in the triangular series with Ireland and Bangladesh in iteland is scheduled for May 5......a full week AFTER the deadline for submitting final squads for the World Cup
So, assuming the information above is accurate, unless a player in the named World Cup squad is withdrawn for whatever reason, it doesnt matter what any player in that triangular series does

Isn't ODI form the primary measure for selecting the World Cup squad?
If DJ Bravo and Pollard returned, men who have not played 50 over cricket for many years, I will back Australia to win the Cup!

Seems Skerritt and Co. are more well-lubricated than the previous lot.
