CAVE HILL, Barbados – Former West Indies batting star Ramnaresh Sarwan said he has welcomed the invitation to work with the West Indies team ahead of next month’s Tri-Nations One-day International Series in Ireland and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 England & Wales.

The 38-year-old Sarwan, who played 87 Tests, 181 ODIs and 18 Twenty20 Internationals between 2000 and 2013, will spend the remainder of the week working with the players, especially the batsmen, helping them to fortify their game.

“I have come here to act as kind of a mentor to the players and try my best to assist them in any technical ways and with any shortcomings where I think they can improve, and to offer as much help to the head coach, Floyd Reifer, and his coaching staff,” said Sarwan.

Since Griffith is the fielding coach, they should make Sarwan the fitness coach. lol lol

I have never seen a windies player ever to rotate the strike like Sarwan. He more than qualifies for that post.

Narper 2019-04-17 11:30:20

Nice

if its his expertise in rotating the strike, he needs to get involved with elementary cricket

That is great news getting him onboard. He is a true proper batsman who knows how to play correct strokes on either side of the square.

Bravo, Hope, Chase, Ambris, Jason, Dowrich and other batsmen could learn a thing or two from this master batsman.

They should make him also the WC batting coach.

So you never saw Kanhai, Kallicharran, Larry Gomes, Dujon, or Hooper bat?

Can Sars teach them how to play the short ball?

Then maybe they should get Lara for that. wink

And maybe teach them how to do hook-shot

Sars was excellent in the ODI arena, especially in the first part of his career where he batted at #5 (and lower?). Thought he did so well there, don't know why they eventually put him at #3. Was a good finisher to the innings.

I see nuff top bats play better shots than Sarwan but for getting off strike for singles there is not better than Sarwan to find that gap in the field.
Look at his ODI record. He done it with utmost ease.

I say you probably haven't watched a lot of cricket then. BTW add Lara to that list. Larra had to teach Sarwan how to get off strike against Murali.

You're telling me that in his ODI career that Sarwan didn't walk to the wicket and look busy from the off then all of sudden he was on 30 plus runs. He done that time and time again. Others like Lara would mix brute force with classical stroke play but Sarwan would clip one's and two's with the occasional four and be up there with a seriously decent scoring rate.

How come Hoops can’t get a Coaching job in the West Indies set up?

Maybe so, but to say there was "not better" WI batsman is a huge stretch.

Raggs 2019-04-18 10:58:18

ted dexter predicted a 50 plus average after his first test innings. he never lived up to his talents but just moving along the scoreboard for our sake I put him on top of the pile. I give the guy credit more than others like Everton Mattis/ Adrian Barath who had the raw tools but never produced at least a full career with it.

Sarwan was once ODI player of the year... due to injuries his tenure was curtailed in both formats...
