Carl Hooper could have been the GOAT
In reply to Jumpstart
he was just that according to the faithful at Bridgetown Barbados ...Kensington Oval
I've yet to see a 'prettier' bat to play the game. Everything was easy - he had time, class and grace.
Just a shame he didn't have a brain.

Indeed. I think Hooper's problem was part carelessness and part morbid fear of failure. A sports psychologist may have done him well.
Hooper came from an extremely talented sporting family, his cousins are Charmaine Hooper, Lyndon Hooper and Howard Eastman.

Carl Hopper was a goat, not a GOAT...

u know i think that if he had sorted his issues, WI wouldn't have lost as much matches in the 90s
In reply to Jumpstart
Not really as he did not have all the tools to fulfill his overabundance of natural abilities.
Had he been more focused, easily averaged over 50..Sir Carl had the talent to take any bowling attack apart...and he did, just not frequently enough.

I think the million dollar question is how do we make sure we never have another Carl Hooper. What systems do we have to put in place to ensure we get the best out of our players. Over the years we've had many talented players who fizzled. Franklyn Rose comes to mind. He should have taken 300 Test wickets.

Yeah. i said earlier what to me would have been a huge asset to carl was a sports psychologist. E.g Rudi webster was as important to lara destroying Australia in 1999 as lara himself. That is the benefit of a sports psychologist. WI should have had a full time one, not just inviting webster when a crisis was around
Not GOAT but DEFINITELY POAT
