My first Shell Shield match...1970 liccle bit. Jamaica vs Bim at Kensington. My first excitement and introduction to Gordon. Hitting Lawson over de sight screen out by de coconut trees behind Goddards supermarket. Ball beater and technically very correct. Still de best square cut in the game. All the best CG big grin

to me the greatest opener of all time. doh even mention hayden. I'm sorry, any person i consider to be the greatest had to have played from 1960-2000. Period of sobers, pace bowling of previously unknown pace and unmitigated hostility, reverse swing etc....essentially, all the major technical and strategic innovations in the game.....sof spot for the 80s because cricket will never be as good(from a playing standard perspective) as it was then

boom.....you could imagine playing lillee , thommo, imran, hadlee in international cricket, the same four during WSC plus garth le roux, and roberts, holding etc in first class cricket? must be the best of them all.
Its the the same reason why my shortlist for greatest batsmen stops at lara and tendulkar because of all the greats, they are the last to know what facing true pace with minimal protection was like. Both of them faced waqar and wasim early in their careers with grill-less helmets which didn't really count for much when a 6 foot plus monster hurling a small cannonball at you at 90mph

nah GG did not fare too well against Lillee and thommo in the 75/76 series.. Having said that, Greenidge is an all time great and a bonafide legend of the game.

Viv, lloyd and kalli all had their moments...and scored over 400 runs each...gordon scored a total of 10 runs in 4 innings..

Greenidge didn't have a test match 100 in Australia until his very last series Down Under..

It seems like you are a reviser to cricket, Lara and Tendulkar played their entire career with helmets and the quality improve during their career, both were world class batsmen that played in the era of helmets.
Both played in the era of grill helmets.

Greenidge was my favorite batsman growing up. I got out many times trying to square cut balls that had no width, cause i just liked how he played the shot. i think the time he made the double century against England when we chased down 340 in less than a day sealed the deal for me...

No I have not. But lara and tendulkar in the beginning used the same or similar type of helmet that somebody say like Andy Lloyd used and we know that helmet didn't help at all in the leeds 84 test when he was knocked out and his vision significant ly reduced
