India: Modi wins in a landslide

The result represents a stunning mandate for Modi, a charismatic and polarizing politician who towers over his rivals. No Indian prime minister has returned to power with a similarly large mandate in nearly five decades.

I'm deeply alarmed by the success of Modi.

It is alarming as it is sad but what does it tell us about this new world order that is rapidly replacing the old order of liberal and pluralistic democracies championed by the USA and Western Europe since the end of WW2. Now many of these same countries are making big u turns

This new world order is going back to nationalism, religious bigotry and racist radicalism.

In Australia last week a radical ultra right candidate won is in a shocking upset.

Modi was rewarded for being hostile to minorities. Not just Christians and Muslims, but the majority poor Hindus are also oppressed by Modi's party and the Shiv Sena philosophy to which he upholds and subscribes too.

His hands has blood of Indians who were and are being murdered by his followers, the poor Hindus whose only reason for existence, he believes, is to be the slaves for the few Brahmin and "uppper caste" Hindus.

He seeks friendship with Trump, Bolton, Salman and Netanyahu and other despots around the world while shunning genuine democracies

Economist on Modi - The prime minister needs to focus on the economy instead of stirring up sectarian concerns.
