The freaking fact , which is that the
People in the WICBC & The Regional
Governments refused to understand that:
CRICKET IS A SERIOUS BUSINESS , THAT
REQUIRES THE BUSINESS OF CRICKET TO BE
TREATED VERY SERIOUSLY .
For many years in this Region , those
in the governance of Cricket in the
Region have bluntly refused to fully
understand this freaking fact .
They with the help of their many Lackeys in the Media must sure most of
the blame for the current state of West Indies Cricket .
It aint that suddenly our dominance in
International Cricket came to an end .
There were warning signs that were
completely ignored .
On several occasions in this very Forum I have cited the fact that these warning Signs were ignored by all those in the governance of Cricket in the Region .
Rather than rewrite what I have stated
before in this Forum , l therefore will state some Questions which I believe are pertinent in understanding
why Our dominance in International
Cricket came to an abrupt end .
Message Board Archives
MANY IN THIS FORUM KEEP MISSING >>>>>>>>>>>
When Our Players were the best in the
World ; What steps were taken by the
WICBC to ensure that Our Dominance would continue ?????
WHAT DID THE WICBC DO WHEN ENGLAND
DECIDED TO LIMIT THE NUMBER OF
OVERSEAS PLAYERS PLAYING CRICKET IN
ENGLAND ?????
WHEN THE ICC DECIDED TO CHANGE THE
FORMAT OF MATCHES PLAYED BY VISITING
TEAMS WHY DID THE WICBC NOT REALIZE
THAT THIS WAS AIMED MAINLY AT OUR
PLAYERS DOMINANCE OF INTERNATIONAL
CRICKET .
When Our Players were the best in the World why did the WICBC not form
a Regional Cricket League ???
I believe that at that juncture the
WICBC would have had many Financial
Sponsors to form a Regional Cricket League ???
History informs us that the People
in the WICBC , did absolutely Nothing .
It is my belief that all of the above have had a definite impact on
the current state of West Indies
Cricket ; and the current competitiveness of Our Players .
It is crystal clear that the WICBC
and the Regional Boards need to be
thoroughly restrctured . BTW so does
their Structures .
In the Good Book , WE are admonished
not to pour New Wine in Old Bottles .
My take is that this also applies to
West Indies Cricket .
It is unfortunate that in the Region
the WICBC Lackeys in the Media refuse
to understand that If WE want to save
West Indies Cricket , change must first start at the Top , meaning the
WICBC .
So what's your solution to this latest crisis?
In reply to POINT
Agreed but there are many moaners and talkers but few willing to take up the mantle and the challenge. Every voluntary and community group in the Caribbean is facing the same problem. A few who are willing to step up to the plate. So we get what we get.
In reply to POINT
Why don't your run for President of CWI and fix the problems you seem to have solutions to?

I remember Bishop saying something similar on BBC's Empire of Cricket West Indies a few years ago. There were warning signs as early as 1988 when we drew with pakistan at home. As far as WI cricket is concerned, the visible signs of our decline strted to show in 88/89. Richards and co were clearly drawing close to retirement and other than lara, nobody else came to the fore in a meaningful way. Hooper tantalized every cricket fan but left us all too dissatisfied and his team in trouble. Carlisle best shone for the briefest moment. Atherton could not curb his instincts. I every sector we saw a dramatic decrease in quality. Greenidge and haynes replaced by stuart williams and campbell, dujon replaced by junior murray or courtney browne, Two of the quartet replaced by about 8 or 9 pacers who never lived up to potential resulting in ambrose and walsh retiring at the unheard pacers ages of 38 and 37

The region suffers from a lack of management nous - Jamaica is still a third world country even though it has some of the best resources!
Guyana is the most superior country in the region. The smartest and most talented visionary leaders. If you put a Guyanese in charge see the difference. Look how messed up we are now with the little islands trying to impress.
In reply to Atl_View
The Englishmen managed Guyana better back in the days!
In reply to Atl_View
the fact that the Political Parties in
Guyana are now before the CCJ , does not substantiate what YOU have stated here .
Perhaps you can make some clarifications regarding the Political
Mess Guyana currently finds itself .
I am reminded of a very famous saying:
" PEOPLE IN GLASS HOUSES MUST
NEVER EVER THROW STONES ".
BTW ,the late Phillip Viera , a Vincentian , owns a Big Factory in Guyana .

WE need to have a Complete Restructuring of Cricket in the Region
this must include the WICBC & the
Regional Cricket Boards .
Governments in the Region must make Financial contributions , in return THEY
must have an accounting of every Penny
that the WICBC Spends .
Players must also have Representation on the WICBC . WE need to be rid of the asinine Masters & Serfs freaking Mentality
that currently exists in the WICBC .
There must be a Regional buy in by
Regional Businesses in becoming Financial Sponsors .
It is my belief that the Attitude &
Behaviour of the WICBC has prevented
many potential Financial Sponsors from being Allies with the WICBC .
The Glory days ain't coming back anytime soon, it takes a lot of organizing and money to get to the top, also a good system have to start from high school and club level. Therefore the most we can expect are occasional wins here and there

The stark Freaking fact is that When
Our Players were the Best in the World , the WICBC did not do one blasted thing to ensure that the competitiveness of Our Players would
endure .
As I have stated , they could have,
with the financial assistance of Sponsors , setup 6 Cricket Academies
in the Region ; they could have asked the Countries in the Region to
make Primary & Secondary Schools devote 1 hour 5 days a week to learn
the Fundamentals of Playing Cricket.
They could have encouraged Schoolchildren to look at Cricket Films etc .
To use a well known West Indian phrase ; the people in the WICBC &
the Regional Boards are too Set in their ways . They will not change their modus operandi .
This is precisely why I firmly believe that in the Region WE have to start Anew . It makes absolutely
no sense continuing with the current
Structure of West Indies Cricket .
I also believe that WE need to stop
the freaking Friction that exists between those in the governance of
Cricket in the Region , and Our Players .
All the Cricket Boards & ALL Our
Players must have amicable Relations
in Essence there must be Harmony . The Autocratic Behaviour of the WICBC & the Regional Boards have been and are negative Vibes that must come to an end .
WE ARE LIVING IN THE 21ST. CENTURY
not in the 19th. or 20th.Century, this Freaking fact is lost on the Rip Van Winkle People in the WICBC . .
In reply to POINT
You need to stop "freaking" to be taken seriously. you
It would be remiss of me if I fail to mention the fact that most of the people in the Region who claim to be
Sports Journalists , for many years have aided & abetted ALL those in the
governance of Cricket in the Region .
It is this unholy alliance that has
been and is at the Root of the unhealthy state of West Indies Cricket . Most of the Charlatans in the Media
bluntly refuse to be critical of the
modus operandi of the Worst International Cricket Board in the Commonwealth ; aka the WICBC .
What is needed in the Region are
REAL Sports Journalists , not Lackeys of the WICBC , aka the Worst
International Cricket Board in the
Commonwealth .
Some years ago the 3 formats of the game had Financial Sponsors , These
Sponsors stopped being Sponsors .
I did not read or hear that any of those who claim to be Sports Journalists in the Region going to those former Sponsors to enquire why they stopped being Sponsors .
Frankly it is crystal clear to me that those in the governance of Cricket in the Region , and their Lap Dogs in the Media have yet to
fully understand this freaking Fact:
CRICKET IS VERY SERIOUS BUSINESS AND
THEREFORE REQUIRES THAT THE BUSINESS
OF CRICKET BE TREATED VERY
SERIOUSLY.
The Governments of the Region need to insist that Critics of WICBC cannot be banned from attending matches if they are critical of the
Worst International Cricket Board in
the Commonwealth .
Obviously this unholy alliance for
years have bamboozled the General Public into believing that most if not all of the Ills regarding West Indies Cricket are due to the Players , never the Worst International Cricket Board in the
Commonwealth .

Perhaps YOU & INHINDSIGHT are unware
of this well known adage :
" SMALL THINGS AMUSE SMALL MINDS ".
Perhaps You were never aware of this
adage , however now you are aware ,You cannot plead Ignorance , Now Run along.

So if we are living in the 21st Century where we need all this "Kum by Yah"" just to coexist, then please tell me why the countries should not go it alone? Please tell me why.
In reply to black
It makes absolutely no sense for me to run when I am advocating that there
must be a Totally New Structure to
Cricket in the Region .
My take is that ALL the Cricket Boards
including the WICBC must be completely Restructured .
I would also have no problem with Players being in the WICBC and also the Regional Boards . Doing this I
believe would solve the eternal problem that is the cause of continuous disharmony between those
who govern and those play Cricket ,
this I believe is at the Root of most of the problems with Cricket in
the Region .
In reply to JamMack
The stark Truth is that the idea of going it alone aint ever going to work from every concievable angle in my opinion .
None of the Individual Countries in the Region , in my opinion has the
Financial Resources to viably support
having 5 Test Matches , 2 ODI Matches & 2 or 3 20/20 Matches .
If it was possible for Jamaica ; Trinidad & Tobago ; Guyana & Barbados to do that , they would have already done that .
