24 extras or approximately 4 additional overs cost us this game

Very true. But, a whole bunch of other things also.

A big fat NO.

Bowling stupidly into Coulter-Nile's hitting arc - letting a bowler score 92.

Batting stupidly and throwing your wicket away, by choosing to play high risk attacking shots against the opponent's best bowler - when you have a minimum of 2 overs of the 5th/6th bowler left.

The extras are what allowed the bowlers to bounce out the Aus top order.

The accompanying stupidity/ inexperience is what cost the game.

In reply to ray what about the dropped catches?

natty_forever 2019-06-06 17:24:03

Dis Done.

As bad as the umpiring has been, West Indies had DRS at their disposal to neutralize the umpiring errors through this chase. Some of their shot selection and targeting of bowlers has been quite puzzling though and they can only blame themselves for this collapse.
Dunce!

Russle's intemperance cost the game. He needed to listen to the captain and chill!

The extras were mainly wides that came in pursuit of a particular tactic. If they are going to use the short ball then the risk is that a number are going to go above the batsman's head. I am more concerned that they allowed Coulter-Nile to score too many and that Russell could not restrain himself and give the WI the best chance of getting the runs and chose a high-risk method instead. He had a lot of time and though you will hear that that is how he plays, there was a smarter way that was more likely to succeed.
