OTTINGHAM, England (CMC) — West Indies Captain Jason Holder was left ruing “irresponsible shots” which contributed to his side's failed run chase and eventual 15-run loss at the hands of Australia in their second match of the World Cup here yesterday.

Chasing 289 for victory, at Trent Bridge, West Indies collapsed from 190 for four in the 35th over to 273 for nine off their allotted 50, after losing five wickets for 66 runs.

“I'm obviously disappointed. I thought we were well in the game there at the lunch-time stage, [but there were] just a few irresponsible shots when we probably just needed to tuck it around a little bit more,” Holder said afterwards.

One of many reasons for the loss, but it's clear here this is directed at Dre Russ, legitimately so.

Exactly what is written.

It looked like Holder was advising Russell about his approach to the chase, but Russell decided to hit out away.

True, Russell was probably pissed Jason batted before him, add the fact that he might also not rate him as a captain. Can't imagine Russell defying a more imposing figure - e.g. Gayle. That said, that shot was really irresponsible.

This is a team game. At 210/6 with 13 overs to go needing 79 to win at a literal run a ball with Russel and Holder at the crease it meant Aus were beaten. Aus gambled then by bringing on their strike bowler Cummins. This was do or die. Russel had just dispatched the spinner Zampa with relative ease so they couldn't risk him or Maxwell as long as Russel was at the crease. This over from CUmmins had to do it. After that Cummins and Starc would have two overs each left and eight overs from the lesser bowlers would have to bowl to Russel and Holder. As long as Russel was there scoring at a run of ball would be eased to three or four an over.....Australia was finished. When. Russel dispatched CUmmins for a 6 it was truly over...just negotiate the last two balls for a single to retain the strike and wait for the less vaunted bowlers....we know the story....Russel went to power hit and was caught ...Aus was back in the game and Carlos Brathwaite for all his acumen couldn't turn over the strike. Instead going for big shots and missing forcing Holder to do the same to increase the run rate....Nurse should have played in front of the inept Brathwaite.

I personally Feel Roach would have been a far better batting option in that position than Brathwaite.

Reading is a gift, comprehension; a blessing.

Look, there was no single causal factor for the loss. I actually think we did really well for a number 8 team. No biggie. I still believe we will go far in this tournament.
