ROBERTS & CROFT SLAMS "FAST BOWLERS POOR TACTICS"

Former West Indies fast bowler Joel 'Big Bird' Garner stormed out of the Taunton County Ground an angry man after the West Indies' seven-wicket loss to Bangladesh in their latest ICC 2019 World Cup match on Monday, saying the bowlers didn't target the wicket but the Bangladeshi batsmen.
Despite tallying 321 runs, their highest total so far in the competition, the West Indies were beaten all over the ground by Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who hit an unbeaten 124 to lead his team to a win with almost 10 overs to spare.
At the end of the game, a clearly unhappy Garner said: "These guys did not attack the wickets, they attacked the batsmen and they were able to handle the short ball and pull them away."

Roberts
"You have to learn the art of using the short ball as a weapon and not as your stock ball. These guys are using the short ball as their stock ball, so the batsmen are getting used to it. You have to use it sparingly but when you do, it must be directed properly and it will bring the results."
"The guys must always think on their feet. In England the weather changes by the minute, so you need to get things right quickly. Sometimes it starts off as a bright sunny day and as you look around it's overcast. All these things have to be taken into account when you are bowling."

We never too old to learn.
A number of West Indies cricketers, played league cricket in England, some also played cricket in South Africa.

Speaking to Guardian Media, Butcher, the first West Indian to play for England, said: "The bowling is very poor at the moment and it is not as if these guys are not talented. They are going out there with the wrong message and are trying to execute a plan that is flawed in these conditions.
"The first game at Nottingham and even the second would have handed them a fast pitch. However, as the tournament progresses a lot of cricket is being played on these pitches and it will not get any faster. The pitches will play lower and lower as the tournament goes on and these guys are bowling short."
Butcher, who played a lot of cricket in England for Middlesex and England during his career in the 1980s, said the bowlers are now not bowling to suit the English conditions and will pay the price for it if they do not adjust their gameplan.

Is it not a continuation of the first game, where the short deliveries, especially from Russell, brought home the victory?
Is this not why they went into the match without a spinner?

I agree with Mark- re the selection process was flawed, but during this tournament, I will contimie to refrain from bad mouthing players, as we all know the squad was not a balance one.

This cliche is Not applicable for this situation.
Is this not why they went into the match without a spinner?
No, it is because the squad doesn't have an effective spinner that meet the minimum standards.

I would have really liked to see them try Khary Pierre. The hallmark of a good spinner is not getting that look of fear if you get lash out the ground. Suliman Benn never got scared...Bishoo gets the yips if he gets belted around and starts bowling faster and that in turn becomes long hops. Pierre seems tough and looks like he relishes a fight.

THis is my point....and the same point the expert Butcher is making....Estwick and Collymore are out of their league...as Butcher says....the bowler are going out there with the wrong message....and as Roberts say......they have to think ON THEIR feet and adapt....but they are incapable of this due to lack of experience in England...and the two coaches can't adapt either
Look we will still win one or two....but will lose plenty
We are woefully way behind the top teams

I agree with you, going into this tourney without a world class spinner was piss poor- Ashley is a good man but he is not that candidate.

You asked,
I wonder if bowling coach Eswick ever played in England
My response was a link to his career showing he did play cricket in England.
This was too big a series to have a new management structure.

Well, the plan is indeed flawed if it is to execute the batsmen!!
