MANCHESTER: Clive Lloyd says the West Indies should learn the art of adaptability from New Zealand captain Kane Williamson as they fight to avoid World Cup elimination.

Jason Holder´s side have managed only one win from five matches ahead of Friday´s game against New Zealand in Manchester.

The Black Caps, unbeaten in the round-robin competition so far, are fresh from their four-wicket win over South Africa on Wednesday when Williamson made an unbeaten 106 to anchor a tense chase at Edgbaston.

I really do hope the perspective and wisdom of this great stalwart and servant of WI cricket informs Skerett's decisions going forward. He is essentially saying that WI does not have much of a brain thrust. NZ captain Williamson's leadership is underlined by his smarts and performance. Not quite the case with WI. Lloyd says Williamson knows how to read the conditions and adapt. The WI leadership seems incapable. Lloyd further suggests that WI are a one trick pony with no variation in their game and further that they do not understand the English conditions. The take away is that the WICB have to attract personnel that are more intelligent and strategic as well as selecting players with higher cricket IQ than the bunch we currently have. Holder is doing his best to be seen as an international all rounder. He is improving. He is not a strategic thinker. He is inexperienced. He learns slowly and does not have the mettle to be a leader of men, and he knows it. Gayle is spent. Hope is one of our new stars. Bravo is emotionally and apparently mentally weak and horribly out of touch but must be persisted with. Hetmyer, Thomas and Cottrell are keepers. They will get better but need competent coaching but will only get better. Lewis is coming on. Russel should not play if he is not fit. The coaching group are hopelessly unimaginative and heve no upside. Reifer is hopelessly out of his depth. Collymore is there by default. Let us attract the old stalwarts of our past and compensate them like we are willing to compensate those brought from beyond our shores but will never command the commitment of the players and matchless talent we keep generating and losing.

Well they didn’t learn anything from Williamson by the way the front line batsmen threw away their wickets and another game. Congrats to Carlos Brathwaithe on his first ODI century and the fast bowlers who put in the effort to make the game close by staying with Carlos.

WI got talent but lack cricketing awareness. They don’t know how to analyze situation and pace themselves during the longer version of the game, which includes ODIs. They are constantly in T20 mode, believing that scoring is only done by hitting sixes. Most of WI shots are air bound or they usually get out trying a power shot. When will they finally learn the "art" of cricket???
