Over the last four years, each time he was in line to be selected, he came up with the excuse that his knees were wobbly and wouldn't last 50 overs.
Fast forward to world cup, and he suddenly made himself available. No issues with his knees!
Fast forward two weeks, and his inability to keep himself fit, coupled with absolutely brainless batting, going for glory shots instead of playing to win, have made him one of the biggest failures of the competition.
What a conman and fraud

Russell is an absolute fraud
In reply to brians_da_best
actually, i dont think that is quite true re wc selection
wasn't he injured during the series prior to wc selection?
In reply to brians_da_best
Russel seh soconoma..
u b@mb@c@3t noma
In reply to doosra
Yes, but he had to show some intent to play that series, to be considered for the world cup, hence he flew back to the west Indies, a day before the odi, and then obviously couldn't play.
This whole charade was to somehow play the 2019 World Cup, to tick off a box. Playing with an injury? Even better, to show his commitment to the west Indies. Playing glory shots, hitting big sixes? Absolutely, something to be remembered by. Helping west Indies win? Not really, the team sucks anyways.
This whole thing was about personal glory for russell
An absolute conman, and we all fell for it.
Too bad for Russell, it backfired badly
In reply to brians_da_best
so where are the selectors in this?
Russell did not pick himself
In reply to doosra
He conned them, just the way he conned everyone else.

I concur with you 110 %, and have post about Russells batsmanship, he is a 4 overs bully ask his homie Mickie,
Mickie said it.
In reply to brians_da_best
Is he? IPL teams and T20 fans don't think so. In fact, they pay big money to see him play.
Russell's problems with WI cricket started way back, when Sammy was being pushed as captain and Russell was often omitted from the ODI team as a result. Like much in WI cricket, insularity and WI cricket politics did Russell in.
Russell and the early WI players in the IPL kept the value of WI cricketers alive during a period (still ongoing) when insularity and backwardness almost killed WI cricket. So, give the man his due. He was / is a WI cricket colossal.
Just to show how stupid the base opinion of this thread is - Russell was largely responsible for the only WI victory at this point in the current World Cup, already past the halfway point. Just like the threads castigating Hety and Holder, this one too shows our collective backwardness in readily turning on those who have helped the most.
Just like ungrateful beggars who angrily refuse our small change on the days when that's all we have to offer ...
In reply to brians_da_best
that is not how i see it
they fully well know he was a risk and they were willing to take a risk
In reply to tc1
Yes. This self serving guy wanted to use the world cup to make a statement about his commitment to west Indies and all that.
Look how it backfired
In reply to doosra
As I've stated before, the only thing that went in rUssell's favour was skeritt's election.
This skeritt dude made big statements about mending bridges and amnesty.
He has to pick someone to show he wasn't all talk. Bravo had retired, and there was a lot going on there to consider him. Pollard has been the epitome of mediocrity. Gayle had already patched up. Who was left? Russell. And Russell was picked.
Nothing more, nothing less
Whatever, he pulled it off to perfection although I think fraud is too strong a word... .
In reply to brians_da_best
It took you quite a mouthful just to say that you've been had.

Luck ran out with the ball?

You were ok when he was hounding Ramdin though..

I have said many times to you that Russell is a 4 overs Superman.
Your Hommie Mike said italso, be mad with Mike not me.
Russell is a fraud and the selectors are spineless.
Full stop
Russell plays way to much T20 cricket to represent the West Indies effectively....he will either turn up tired or injured, why are we not seeing this this?
In reply to brians_da_best
Russell is a great ltd overs cricketer that the selectors took a chance on. I was surprised they asked him to bowl. I would have picked him just to bat.
In reply to methodic
His batting was pretty brainless as well
Potentially this thread got legs... I am gonna pull a Powen here guys. Argument strong on both sides and a Muddie is not the character, so lady Zsa Zsa and others will fight the fight!
In reply to hawk
I agree that Russell plays too much 20 Over cricket but 20 Over cricket is where his interest lies.
Did you folks think that Russell's selection can be attributed to Marketing.
The world wanted to see the WIndes team with Russell based on his heroics in the IPL.
Don't underestimate that a number of people either bought tickets to a game just to see Russell play or watch it online.
In reply to Veracity
i don't think so, just a gamble by this new administration
Russell is not a odi player. Period
In reply to gvenkat
On that note, which West Indian is?
The West Indies was one good opener short, a genuine top #3 batsman and a good spinner.
In reply to nitro
Bingolingus!!
They has a couple of top order batsmen available in Ambris and Chase. They choose out of form Bravo instead....genuine mistrake. Maybe Ambris they felt did not have the experience, so Bravo it was. For a spinner they choose Allen - no experience, over Bishoo....go figure!! If Lewis had niggles, which seems apparent, John Campbell should have been chosen. Talk about shooting ourselves in the foot!!!

The story of WI..always short of something..40 years since their last WC win..this over..
In reply to Khaga
Ha ha🤨
In reply to RonaldM
Having struggled to make the WC they should have blood young but talented players in the tournament. Give them the experience.
What was the purpose of playing Gayle in his 40s.
In reply to RonaldM
I would say those were shots in the head!
In reply to Khaga
All over the place bitching!
Andrea Russell was not 100% fit and has suffered with a knee problem since the IPL,even 4 overs was sometimes too much, his batting was magic in the IPL,no one could have asked for more.Russell wanted to play and West Indies selectors felt it was worth taking the chance,is not Russell fault for giving his services although not fit.Don't blame Russell for West Indian failures.
